I tried the archives, it seems you can get issues that are 20 years old but nothing has been inputed into digital for magazines in the 21 st century.

Ignition battery
Just starting into gassers......have a new Zenoha 20 cc. noticed the instructions state to use a 4.8 ni-cad battery for the ignition system Would it be possible to use a 2 cell lipo battery with a voltage regulator down to 5 volts to operate the system... My thinking is a full charged 4.8 is over 5 volts Thanks

RE: Congress acts to protect model aviation from burdensome regulation
I agree with you however, the FAA is charged with making the airways safe, we cannot ignore them. I will not feel safe until I read the NPRM.

We haven't won yet, the Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) is still scheduled to come out this spring.

RE: KMP L4 Grasshopper 90
I have one in progress, for an ARF there is a lot to do. The worst part is the guide tubes for the push rods don't line up correctly. I had to disregard the giude tubes and go with push rods for the rudder and elevator. Do not forget the connecting wire for the elevator halfs must be installed....be careful when using epoxy to glue in Horizontal stab dont glue the connecting wire to the stab trailing edge.... Model Airplane News has good review I believe FEB 2012 issue has P51 Red Tail on cover.

RE: Is it wide band or narrow band 72MHZ PCM
Check the frequency of the channel its operatating on, if its the same as the current list of channel numbers and freqencies its narrow band. The channel numbers and freqs changed when they went to narrow band. ie. brown and White 72.08 disppeared.

RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
ORIGINAL: RCKen
ORIGINAL: Joystick TX I wonder why we are required to check the FAA NOTAMs before we fly model planes.  Also, why do we have VIP no-fly restrictions, up to 30 miles from airports, for models since we follow safety rules that don't pose a threat to aircraft no matter who is on board?
The NOTAM's that restrict aviation for VIP activities is not to ''punish'' our hobby. They ground all aviation so that they don't have to figure out if a plane in the air ''ok'' or not. While our planes are models, at a distance it can be very difficult to distinquish quicky if it's a model or a full size plane. All aviation is grounded so that Secret Service and other law enforcement don't have to take the time to figure out if a plane in the air is ok, or not. When all air traffic is grounded they can assume that any aircraft in the air is not friendly and can take appropriate actions quickly. This is why everything is grounded when VIP activities take place. Unfortunately in this day and age it's a precaution that will be with us to stay, and I don't see anything changing anytime soon. It's just something we are going to have to live with. Ken
Ken, not entirely true, I live on Oahu so we are affected a lot. Last 2 week visit Secret Service allowed General Aviation to fly, tour helicopter flew......but not our RC Models. They don't ground all aviation, first visit they did, but there were so many compliants about monatary losses they relented and were allowed to fly.....but not our RC models

RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
ORIGINAL: ZERO-322 I asked this question early on in this thread and no one responded , but can someone please tell me how exactly does anyone AMA FAA whoever propose to enforce these new rules ? reason I ask is I started out in this hobby flying gliders un powered high start and powered for quite a few years and didn't have an AMA membership or a club membership of any kind and not once did anyone object to what I was doing I don't recall any AMA FAA police or otherwise, because I didn't really know any better and didn't bother to ask, it wasn't until I started on glow powered models that I obtained membership in the AMA So again I'm not saying someone should willingly and knowingly break the law, but I ask you all how is this going to be enforced ? who's gonna sit there with an altimeter and radar gun to make sure these proposed rules are followed to the letter ?
I am a retired FAA safety Inspector....to answer your question NO ONE! The FAA is a reactionary administration....the FAA makes rules and regulations to prevent accidents or incidents....you never see inspectors about until there is an accident/incident then a horde of inspectors show up with their clipboards because the rules are in place to prevent these from happening....so.....some rule or regulation must have been violated because something happened....and they are going to find which one it was that was not followed.. Another way you will see a horde of inspectiors is in response to a citizen complant.......someone calls and says" Hey them guys are not following the new rules at the flying field"! I saw a guy flying a jet musta been doing 200 MPH....and he was flying in the clouds" Inspectors are dispatched with their new rule book inhand and the tools to check this report........whoever is the unlucky fellow flying that day gets the violation and the inspectors leave....Caller gets very officlial letter stating what was done to correct the situation case closed. Flyer now needs to respond to the violation, an entire different process. Inspectors hang out in office til next report or incident.
