RE: Power supply reccomendation needed.
John, Head ovet to EvilBay and shop around for a pair of HP DPS-600PB B 575W Switching Power Supplies and connect them in series for 24 volts. You can find them for $20 or less each and a pair of these will drive two CellPro 10 XP's at near maximum performance. A couple of cautions: 1. Do not let the cases touch or they will short out. 2. You can only ground one power supply. If you ground both, they will short out. Rob

RE: Emerald Coast Beachcomber Pattern Classic, October 6-7, 2012
All, Here is an update for the Beachcomber Contest. I was able to get a discount at the Niceville Quality Inn. The motel is blocking 15 rooms for us. The nightly rate is $79 (regular is $99). They are located at 101 Hwy 85, Niceville, FL, 32578, Phone: (850)678-8077. Just mention model airplane contest to get the special rate. The Quality Inn is the closest motel to the flying field. Also, Jackie Powell, Cody’s mom, is arranging for a Saturday night dinner at Helga’s Restaurant and Bier Garten in Bluewater Bay. Helga’s features authentic German food and authentic German adult beverages. If you are interested in going to Helga’s, please send me an e-mail at rgc1701@earthlink.net so I can give a planning number. I will take a final head count at the pilots’ meeting. Helga’s is located at 4504 E Highway 20 Ste B, Niceville, FL, 32578, in Bluewater Bay, near the Winn-Dixie. Ken Blackwell opened registration on the NSRCA D3 website. If you think you might attend, please go ahead and register so I can get PACSS all set up in advance. Finally, several of our club members have been busy sacrificing models to the weather gods in hopes of receiving calm winds and clear skies for the contest. See you in October Rob

Emerald Coast Beachcomber Pattern Classic, October 6-7, 2012
It's time once again to start planning to attend the Emerald Coast Beachcomber Pattern Classic on 6 and 7 October 2012 (Columbus Day Weekend). The contest will be held on Eglin AFB, Test Site C-3, on Florida Highway 285, three miles north of College Blvd, just outside Niceville, FL. Entry fee is $25, cash, check, or money order. The plan is to conduct the pilots' meeting at 0830 on Saturday and begin flying at 0900. We will fly all classes, Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced, Masters, and FAI. FAI will fly P-13 on Saturday and F-13 on Sunday. Awards will be presented through third place in each class. The weight limit in Sportsman is raised to 20 lbs. Again, I will be running an unofficial "Club-Only" Sportsman class. This class is only open to current Eglin Aero Modelllers' mewmbers with no prior contest experience. They will fly in the Sportsman rotation, but will only compete against others in the club-only class. This side enent is unofficial and is intended to grow the pattern community by allowing EAM members the opportunity to participate in a contest in a reduced stress environment. For those who prefer to camp, I recommend Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park. The Air Force increased security at the field, so we cannot allow overnight camping on the test site. The park is close to the field, about a 15 minute drive, depending on traffic. Their website is: http://floridastateparks.org/rockybayou/default.cfm Alternatively, I the Niceville WalMart may allow overnight RV parking. The can be reached at (850) 389-3013. Site security is the same as last year. The gate directly off SR-285 must remain locked during non-duty hours. I will add an event lock to the gate and will e-mail the combination to registered contestants during the week prior to the contest. Ken Blackwell will be opening registration on the NSRCA District 3 website soon. Please register so we can populate PACSS in advance and have a good idea on how much food and drink we need to bring. https://sites.google.com/site/nsrcad3/home More information on the Eglin Aero Modellers flying field is available here: http://www.eglinaeromodellers.org/ I will again work to get a discount rate at the Quality Inn and will plan a Saturday evening dinner at one of our local establishments. Stay tuned to this thread for more details. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at rgc1701@earthlink.net or (850)499-7095. Rob Campbell Contest Director

I'm just guessing, but you may have had voids in the solder fill, which led to the brass coupler failing in fatigue.
ORIGINAL: M.Kimbro
ORIGINAL: shannah Where in the FAI sporting code did you see that?
5.1.11. Oraganization for Radio Controlled Aerobatics (page 16) "For electric power models, the electric power circuit(s) must not be physically connected, before the starting time is begun, and must be phyiscally disconnected immediately after landing."
Seems to me the NSRCA is mandating a solution to meet the FAI requirement. As I read the FAI rule, a set-up like Keith showed is fully FAI compliant. Rob

RE: NANO-TECH LIPO BATTERIES THE WAY TO GO
NanoTechs are probably the best buy on the market right now. Proces are very reasonable and they perform very well. Several of us here in Northwest Florida are using them in our pattern ships and they perform as well as the high priced big brands. We're not sure about how long they'll hold up, but I have aeveral packs over a year old and they're still going strong. Rob

RE: How did we get here ?
A lot of the changes were to keep up with the Europeans and the increasingly more demanding FAI sequences. The most dramatic rise in equipment prtices has been since 1996 when the 2 meter by 2 meter, 11 lb rule went into effect. The 11 lb rule combined with the demand for more vertical performance and less speed on downlines drove larger engines and larger airframes. In order to keep the weight under 11 lbs, new composite structures were needed, further dtiving costs upward. The introcuction of reasonably prced electric set-ups is helping alot. The new 2 meter vanquish ARF runs $650, whic isn;t too bad considering a glass kit ran $350 back in the early 90's. BTW, we're having a classic pattern contest over at Eglin in April, the 1040 Blues Classic Pattern Meet. Even if you can't get a " true classic pattern ship" built in time, gtab a Big Stick or Kaos ARF and come on over. Our field is less than an hour away from you. Rob

RE: nose wheel steering problems on Parkzone Habu ?
Joe, If you radio can do it, I recommend trying expo in the nose wheel/rudder channel. This will desentitize steering around neutral and may help with your oversteer issue. On the topic of wheels, check out MPI's aluminum hub wheels. They're far superior to the ARF wheelws out there. Rob
