RE: New giant scale rudder servo
personally I would rather have multiple servos in a rudder set up using an SWB tray or something similar, that way if one servo fails regardless of torque you can still have some sort of rudder control, whereas a one servo setup puts rudder control at risk due to failure or lockup and as we all know chances are it will lock up in the hard over position as compared to inline with the Vstab...Just my humble opinion is all!

Have any of you kit builders considered putting a servo on each flap segment? That seems to be a lot of flap area to only be driven by one servo. Also that link between the flap sections seems to be a failure point to me...thoughts???

RE: 38000 Rivets and 2000 Dzus fasteners giveaway…
Gents, I am new to the process of scale detailing. I will be completing an AT6 in teh next few months and would like to add some panel lines and rivets. let me see if I have this straight in my head. you build the plane, glass it or apply whatever finish you chose to use and spary a coat of primer and sand and wet sand smooth you stick on your chart tape to simulate panel lines you stick on thousands of these little vinyl dots to simulate rivets and dzus fasteners then you apply some more primer you remove the chart tape giving you your panel lines then you apply paint and viola you have rivets and panel lines...is this correct? what happens if one of these little vinyl dots comes off? grey primer spot showing through your paint (even more scale realism) humm not a bad idea!

RE: Is Monokote Fixed yet?
I have tried the Hobby King covering and it is not worth buying in my opinion. The color translucency in a roll changes. You can apply a section of one colour and you cannot see through it, then use a small section from elsewhere in the same roll and you can see through it and it is very translucent, it is like the color consistency is different throughout a roll. Do not try and put light colors over dark as it looks terrible. I will give it one vote of confidence that I did like, overlapped seams are virtually invisible. I am in the process of recovering a QQ Python in my own scheme using Monokote and just so happens I am using Jet White. I have found, as compared to the past, that the white requires far more heat from a heat gun in order to get it to shrink consistently, HOWEVER, if you shrink it to far, it gets brittle and will puncture and crack very easily. I have been following a process I spotted here on RCU where as you iron the covering down with just enough heat to activate the adhesive, then I go over it with a heat gun and use a very soft cloth to push it down onto the wood surfaces below. In the case of open structure apply extra heat to get it to shrink until it is nice and tight. There is a definite diffference in Monokote from years past, I am sure the environmental regulations, the EPA and the concerns over cancer causing agents are most likley to blame...I wonder if anyone from Top Flite would be willing to shed some light on the truth!...if they dare!

RE: Anyone know about the new Airplane distributer?
ORIGINAL: Nick Hudson Ran across this yesterday and looks like another place to buy planes, anyone know anything about them? http://www.giantmodelproducts.com/
Chances are this is a clearing house for Chinese ARF makers with products that do not make the standards for some of the US ARF sellers. I know that certain US ARF sellers ONLY use certain Chinese ARF makers becasue of their quality...some of the stuff that comes out of China is absolute crap...poor design, poor materials, poorly built all covered in a fancy cover scheme to get someone to buy it... then again some of the stuff that comes out of the north america is also crap. I have seen brand name kits with some pretty poor quality wood being sold...so i guess the only way to ensure you are getting top value for your dollar spent is to build it yourself, buy from a reputable ARF supplier, buy from a reputable kit supplier or pick your own materials and plans and build it from scratch!

ATTN AEROWORKS AIRCRAFT EXPERTS... What are some of the key differences in the design of the 35% Aeroworks Extra 260 versus the 35% Aeroworks Extra 300? What are your experiences with either or both of these planes? Looking for a summary of the key differences and the differences in flight performance...does one plane do something better than the other etc etc! thanks

RE: Top Flite F4U Corsair Gold Giant Scale Project
Dude, Take it from someone that has built this plane (still not finished) and flown two of them, one with a DA85 and the other with a Zenoah G62 for power. I encourage you, any opportunity you have to remove wood and not sacrfice strength...DO IT. Drill lightening holes anywhere possible...remove added weight. This plane builds heavy, it flies heavy and with some work you can remove several pounds of weight to make it a better balanced and flying model. Even the instructions suggest you will need to add possibly THREE POUNDS of lead to the nose to get it to balance. Lighten the tail feathers especially. Drilling lightening holes in the ply stock, the fuse formers, the wing ribs, the main wing spar, the aileron, elevator and rudder main plates, everywhere possible drill lightening holes. YES it is extra work, but trust me, you will come out with a far better project overall. Not sure what you covering plans are going to be, but if you plan to glass this model, this makes drilling lightening holes even more important. Here are pictures of my tail feathers prior to sheeting the top side...you can see all the lightening holes in the ribs and leading edge etc. It is a great flying plane, the flaps are finicky but once you get it in the air you will have fun...just remember you have to fly it to the ground...it does not float to earth like some aerobatic planes out there.

RE: Toyota Recall
Sorry I have to say this but you Americans crack me up Thee ONLY reason that Toyota is facing such scrutiny in the American market place is because they are now number ONE in the world and have surpassed General Motors. Funny thing happens when GM has a recall, and dont tell me that they dont have recalls because I own a GM product and it has been back to the servicing dealer no less than 5 times for recalls, but the funny thing is that it gets reported to the public and then never another word is said, WHY, because it is AMERICAN. The only reason that Toyota is getting picked on is because a) they are NUMBER ONE and that pisses off the American manufacturers and 2) because they are Japanese. You guys are somewhat hypocritical too considering the following little tidbit of information...With 15 million cars built in the US over the last 49 years, Toyota now manufactures 10 vehicles in North America: the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia, Sienna, Solara, Tacoma, Tundra, and Lexus RX330. Production of the Camry Hybrid will begun in the fall of 2006 in Kentucky and the RAV4 in 2008, in Ontario, Canada. Who do you think works in those assembly factories....AMERICANS, when you are pointing the finger at Toyota take a look at your hand, there are three other fingers pointing right back at you!. Trust me Toyota will rebound from this offering a stellar product as they have for a number of years! Lets see how many recalls GM, Ford and their ugly sister Chrysler have over the next year or two, bet you will hardly hear a word about them!

It was my unerstanding at one point in time that Stan had some health issues and his wife was trying to run the business in his absence. They produced some really nice graphics for planes and I chose one of their stock designs to apply to my 35% Extra 260 and I have people comment on my plane all the time...would be nice to know if they are still in business or not.

Asif, I will say this, I have two Aeroworks planes in my hanger and chances are I will acquire more over the coming years, in my opinion you will not find a better built ARF than the Aeroworks QB line of planes. They are solid although they are not the lightest airplanes on the market, due to the fact they are well built they really stand the test of time and the rigors of everyday flying. It is your choice which one to purchase, you will not go wrong with any of them.

RC4X4, Rocco knows me well enough to know that I do not order my planes with covering. When they release the 150cc version of the edge 540 I will pay rocco a deposit and order mine uncovered. I prefer to see the planes in the bones and cover them myself. it defeats the whole QB idea however I prefer my own custom covering schemes....no two planes the same at anyfield I am at....call me individualistic!

RE: WARNING: DO NOT ORDER FROM AEROWORKS....
Well I can do one better, I had them ship me a 150 CC Yak and it arrived in a day in half, from Colorado to Washington State. I had to cross the border to pick it up and bring it back across the border to Canada. My plane was a special order item that I paid a deposit on...what was sepcial about it...I ordered it custom built with no covering...I like to cover my planes myself, that way I never have a plane at an airfield that looks like mine....Personally my opinion is that Aeroworks nuild the finest ARF planes that are available today....built well and maintained properly they will stand the rigors of most pilots out there and live a long happy life...providing Mr. Dumbthumbs does not show up at anytime!
