RE: Li ION Packs
Fromeco recommends that you stop flying when you get a battery reading of 7.0 volts with a 1 amp load. That is to make sure you will not ruin your plane or battery. Troybuilt says a battery is ruined if the battery goes down to 2.4 volts per cell. A battery can go down to 5 volts and still be revived. If it goes below 5 volts it is considered ruined. So a battery is not damaged if it goes below 7.0 volts. I am sure the plane would fly at 6.9 volts and the battery is not damaged. When your battery read 6.8 under load there is no power left. The damage starts to occur when you are down to about 3.4 volts per cell and will be more damaged the lower it gets beyond 6.8. volts. If you recycle a pack do not go below 6.8 volts. If you want to check the condition of your pack discharge to 6.8 volts and then charge up to 8.4 volts. Notice how many milliamps are put into the battery. If you have a 2800 milliamp pack you should get close to that of at least 80 %.

RE: Li ION Packs
Lithium Ions should read 8.4 at full charge. With a 1 amp load they would read about 7.8. They should be recharged when you get a reading of 7.0 volts with a 1 amp load. If you get 7.2 with a full charge something is wrong with your batteries.

RE: A123 Question
ORIGINAL: Rocketman_ Lithium Ion w/regulators.
+1 I use two 5200 mah packs in a 35%er. I fly 4 flights in one day and go back to the field and fly 4 more the next day and still have power for a few more flights. Grant you I am not a tear it up heavy duty 3D guy. I can also check the battery at the field and know exactly when I need to charge. I will charge the batteries and go flying a month later and have enough power in the batteries to fly with no worries due to the very slow self discharge rate. I got Lithium Ions because I hated charging at the field when we were all using MiMH's. Can't understand why there is such an issue in some hobbyists about using a regulator. Seems 123's became popular when the Lithium Ions were hard to get due to factory issues in China a few years back and guys started tearing up drill packs. I see too many guys posting on the flying sites about their wrecks and seeing 123's listed as part of their equipment. Still can't figure out the advantage of 123's but the old saying goes "to each his own".

RE: Battery For JR Radio XP 8103
ORIGINAL: fizzwater2 I've been using a 3S LiFePO4 battery (folks call 'em A123 type) in my JR transmitter - The meter does read properly. 9.6V is a good cutoff voltage (3.2V/cell) to recharge at. You could go to 9V (3v/cell) but the battery will drop pretty fast at that point, I wouldn't recommend it. Fully charged, the 3S battery will be 12.6V. It'll last a long time between 12.6 and 9.6. You can't charge them with your wall wart charger that came with the radio. I charge mine through the battery's balance connector with my Cellpro Multi-4 charger. Just don't forget and leave the transmitter on, run the battery clear down. It may not recover from that (the battery). I got mine from Hobby King, planning on ordering a couple more soon.
I have a Multi 4 charger. I see settings for 123 batteries at something like 1100 mah a 2300 mah batteries. Which setting do I use for a 1500 LiFe and what charge rate should I use for this particular battery?

RE: Lipo complete discharge?
Yes, it is considered a goner! Some have revived batteries like this by charging on a nicad setting on a low charge rate to build up the voltage and then continue with the Lipo setting. Chances are you will get it to charge up but the damage is done and I would not trust the pack. Those that try this procedure are doing at their own risk. Completely discharging a pack is considered a damaged pack. Any pack discharged with cells below 3.4 suffers damage. How long it stays this way or how often this happens determines when it is considered useless. I am not a battery engineer but I follow rules given by the battery manufacturers and this is what governs how i use batteries. Nope this helps.
ORIGINAL: p39 I received my X4 charger. Is there a balancing adapter that will work with the Electrifly balancing plug? None of the ones that came with the charger will work with the Electrifly plug...
You can plug the battery balance plug directly into the balance port in the charger. Plug your battery balance lead so that the negative wire is to the right. Negative is shown on the balance port to remind you of that.

You must be on the model you want to set up first. Then go to the system menu. That menu is for the model you have already selected. Then if I remember correctly you go into Wing type and that is where you make your changes.

RE: Horizon Hobbies Customer Service-Poor
When you order a complete system you get all what you got and then a receiver battery and servos. If you bought a system without servos then you would not get a receiver battery. Isn't that how all transmitters are sold? I can't tell you how many good things Horizon Hobby has done for me in the past 13 years.

Go to the FMA site and downlaod the manual and look through it.

RE: Lost another one today
I flew with my old 9000's and 7000's all summer. Had them in planes ever since they came out. If they worked for years why would they quit? I kept aware of issues reported through the years and updated(sent them in) firmware when there was on available. I always changed batteries every three years. Most times a person wrecks a plane they say I had no control-Exactly Right!!!-Most times they lost control. Just the other week I sold a plane that I flew with a 7000 in it. I used a DX8. He binds a 9303 that he used with no problems and the second time he flies it he crashes it. He said he lost signal and blamed it on his 9303. A week later he comes back and says he kept thinking about what happened and he admits he stalled it on a turn coming in for a landing-Too low a speed and a turn compound the lift issue and it is gone. Great guy to admit that and not leave blame on a JR transmitter. I have had crashes as a learner that I swear it was a trasmission-receivering issue only years later recalling the incident I see I crashed the plane-period. (I was a learner quite a few years and I was a learner longer than I really thought I was) I am not saying there are never issues with a product that causes a plane to crash. They occur for sure. I just believe guys are to quick to blame something else besides themselves. If anyone is having crashes more frequent that other guys they fly with they better get help because they are doing something wrong

RE: DX8 or 11X for 30% IMAC
Most 30% planes and or IMAC planes do not use flaps therefore you have enough channels with a DX8. I have seen set IMAC planes flown with DX7's, no Matchboxes necessary. Only time you will need a match box is if you get into 35%ers with two servos on each wing. Your 30%er would probably have one servo per wing. The 11X is more expensive and of course would be good for you many years to come if you will be getting into larger planes.

RE: JR 11X blowing fuses
Make your own plug to fit into the female plug on the battery. Use a short wire extension and cut the housing off from around the pins on the female side. The positive and negative pins will fit into the battery plug. Make sure you keep positive to positve and negative to negative. I would use this if you have another dedicated charger. Borrow a JR wall charger from a friend and see if his works. If it does it is your wall charger that is the problem. If it still blows a fuse it is the charger receptacle in the transmitter that is probably giving you problems. Any way that is what I would do to try to isolate the problem.

RE: ID this Votage Regulator
Looks like an MPI. Some were made to allow 5 volts through and others 6 volts. It handles a 2 cell lipo pack. Hook one end to the lipo pack and the othrt to a volt meter to see what you have going through the regulator. I used them and still have one in a glo plane.
