Increase steering deadzone?
Hi. I have a Spektrum DX3.0 running a Hitec 5955TG digital servo in my rock crawler. Now, this is not a big deal, but the servo whines when it can't find a perfect center. Is there a way to increase the "deadzone" either in the servo or my radio a few degrees, to avoid having the server keep trying to find center and whining all the time? Thanks!

Zippy Lipo: How can they be so much cheaper?
I'm getting a Savage Flux in the next little bit, and I'm in the process of researching batteries. How can the Zippy lipos found here http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8587&Product_Name=ZIPPY_Flightmax_5000mAh_3S1P_30C_ Be so much cheaper than any others? Also does anyone know of any stores that sell Zippy lipo's in Canada?

RE: Interchangeable Savage parts: Flux & Nitro
ORIGINAL: ArancioC5 Simple reply......NOTHING IS INTERCHANGEABLE BESIDES THE RADIO BOX, STEERING RACK, TOWERS, AND ROLL BAR as far as the chassis goes. The arms, turnbuckles, and uprights/hubs are too.
Why do you type in caps? Do you think I'm some kind of moron? Typing in all caps, insinuates that your are yelling, and I don't see a reason for yelling. Not only that, but your post does not make complete sense. From what your saying, the arms, turnbuckles and uprights and hubs are not compatible. If I read that correctly, that means that basically nothing on the Flux is interchangeable on the Nitro version. I find that very hard to believe. I hope you are incorrect.

Hows the XL flux doing now anyways? Are your maxamp batteries toast? How much did they puff? I want a flux pretty bad, but I won't be able to get one for a few months.

What is forkshifting? Is that basically locking the tranny in second gear?

Interchangeable Savage parts: Flux & Nitro
I own a Savage X SS with a LRP engine, and a load of spare parts. I've recently gotten into the battery scene with a Slash that I put a VXL kit into. I like batteries more and more now, and I'm wondering (if I get a Savage Flux) what parts from my nitro Savage are interchangeable with the Flux Savage? I wouldn't mind using my RPM arms etc on the flux if I could. How is the tranny different? I have the 2 and 3 speed trannys, but with battery, would it not be direct drive (with gear reduction of course) rendering shifting useless? Thanks guys!
ORIGINAL: Flux Driver Beadlock tires! And the extra weight will be on the wheels, not on the shocks. Heck yeah, I'll have to keep that in mind.
IMHO beadlocks would be a no-no with a 3s lipo. I think most brushless setups with 3s or more will blow them clean off the rim.

RE: Savage flux running NiMh
ORIGINAL: Flux Driver Okay I called HPI. The guy on the phone said the NiMh packs I have should be okay. Said they've gotten lots of calls from people using NiMh packs. I asked what they use, he said for R&D they used Lipos only however. Recommended Maxamps. I told him about page 7 in the Flux manual where it warns against low quality batteries. He said it must be a warning against cheap packs with like 1200MAH or something. Said that my packs with 5000MAH should be fine. I asked if I got 2S 7.4V Lipo packs, would it be more powerful than 7cell 8.4V NIMH packs. As in the next step above 7cell NIMH without going to 8cell NIMH. He said the power from the 7cell NIMH packs would be a bit more simply because it's 8.4V versus the 7.4V in the 2s Lipo packs. The Lipos however will give a lot more run time. I wish there was a middle group between the 2S and the 3S lipos. Because 3S is way too much for me. I mean I'm not like an 8 year old mashing the trigger out there. But I mean 3S would probably be so much power I wouldn't enjoy it much. I'd like it better in a road RC vehicle that's designed to hug the ground, not end up flying off it due to ground clearance, air blowing under the body, etc. Even the Traxxas Slash with bushless floats up like a leaf in a gust of wind. I told the guy about the email from Castle Creations right in this thread, about the ripple effect. He wasn't sure what to make of it and assured me again the NiMh packs I have are fine. He said he wasn't sure why Castle Creations would say that. Anyways, I live near Ultimate Hobbies in California and also Hobby People in Lake Forest. When I get around to it, I'll see what Lipos they have. Until then I think I'm fine with my NiMh packs. I'm sure 2S Lipo packs will satisfy me too. They'll at least be better than 6cell Nimh packs since it has 7.4V vs. the 7.2V in the 6cell NIMH packs. I guess that's the standard to go by when getting a boost from 2S Lipo packs. Again, I really wish there was something in Lipo between the power of 2S and 3S. Two 11.1V packs is not something I want.
If your afraid of 3s, you could always reduce the throttle end point, if you have a decent controller. Or, you could also program the ESC to not go full throttle. 3s IMHO makes brushless setups what they're meant to be.

What gearing you running in your Brushless Slash?
What gearing are you guys using in your brushless slashes? I just bought a 3S lipo, and put it in my brushless slash with 26/83 gearing, and it's a freaking monster. I need to make a front spoiler to try to help it keep the front end down. I've also tried 23/83 and 21/83. I checked my motor temp with the 26/83 (street use only) and the max temp was 150. If I take it off road, I'll be running no taller than 21/83, probably 18/83.

Lol, the batteries I've ever shorted out, I did 100% on purpose. I've never accidentally shorted out any battery. I'm very careful when I solder any connectors on any batteries. When I was talking shorting out batteries, I was talking about AA's and C cells etc when I was a kid. I would never short out any battery these days.

Shorting out a Lipo
Out of curiosity, how does shorting out a Lipo or LiMn battery kill it immediately? I've shorted out lots of other types of batteries (however, only very momentarily) and they've been fine. What is it about these types of batteries that destroys them?

I'm having this exact same problem with a 7 cell stick pack with IB4600 cells. One of the rear cells gets very hot (150) while all the other cells hover around 105. What position in the stick pack is the hot cell you have? I think it might be a defective cell. I'm returning my battery to my LHS for a new one. I don't believe you caused it's problem. I've taken extreme care for my batteries, and I guess every now and then you get a bad one.

RE: Clutch shoes wearing out ?
Yeah they look fine. If you add some weight (by screwing in the set screws that should have come with the aluminum shoes) Your clutch will engage earlier in the RPM band, this might be something you like or not. I have the HPI aluminum shoes, and they engage a little late for my liking, but I've already added the set screws to mine. I may try a lighter spring.

That's what driving like a raped ape, and cornering on concrete / asphalt will do to a low profile tire. Not much you can do to extend the life, besides not cornering so hard. Looks like the tread on the top is decent still.

I own this Lipo charger. http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemid=O-IP2775&Category=O0150 I know it's a lower end model, and I purchased it to charge the Lipo in my 1/36th desert truck. I now have a Traxxas slash, and I want to know if I could use this charger to charge a 5000mah 11.1 volt Lipo. I know I would have to change the connector, but I can't find any concrete information on it. Thanks! PS. I will also get an external balancer.

Well I took the 7 cell out today, and ran my slash hard with it. When performance started to degrade noticeably, I pulled the pack out, and noticed that one specific cell at the rear of the pack was 130f while all the other cells were in the 102-109 range. (I have a thermal temp gun) Why would this 1 cell be so much hotter? Could it infact be defective?

After a few cycles, the battery seems to be taking more and more mah. I'm upto around 3500-3800 now from 2000. That's after around 3 cycles. I'm using the Dynamite Prophet Plus LCD charger found here http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYN4049 I'm using a mixture of Intellect 4200 and Venom 6 cell stick packs. I wouldn't say the battery was hot, but after a 1c charge, it's definitely warm. I remember somewhere around 10+ volts, off a fresh charge.. but I can't remember for sure.
