RE: Gyro Placement for Rudder Control in Fuselage?
AVCS gyros work very well to prevent ground loops and can easily be turned off in flight to prevent airborned interaction. Here is a thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6056543/tm.htm that I found to be the best discussion on the whole subject of placement, gains, etc a really good thread. Howard

What is latest 12FG firmware version?
I just received my new 12FG from Tower and it has software version 1.3 loaded. The Futaba website has what appears to be version 1.6 for the 12FG I think. I read somewhere that V 1.3 is the latest version and now I feel a little confused. Can anyone clear up my apparent confusion. Thanks. Howard

RE: 3W Bearcat Build - Oh Yeah!
I was really impressed with Mick B's "Rare Bare" actually getting both gear to retract................finally!!! That was always my problem, one leg would NEVER go up while the other one would work???? I tried doing rolls, loops, flying inverted, etc to no avail and that's when I finally said to heck with it before I had to land with one gear! The gear was flawless in the shop with no air loads to deal with. Once in the air, the air load on those LOOOONG gear would bind up all that sloppy workmanship and there wasn't a chance in the world of them working. I have to give kuddos to Mick for his plane but with one caveat.......................those gear are gonna bite you one of these days and that's too nice of a plane to dork due to sloppy workmanship. Get some REAL gear from Darrell if you can coax them out of him!!! It'll be worth it.

RE: 3W Bearcat Build - Oh Yeah!
I have TWO sets of the Century Jet articulating gear if anybody wants to buy them. Never damaged because they NEVER worked!!! I flew with one set for about a year and they never would come up so I left them down till I finally bit the bullet and bought the biggest, beefiest set of Robart gear I could cram in the wing and then flew the 'Cat another 6 years this way without a glitch. Bruce at CJ swore it was my problem and wouldn't honor any liability issues with his gear as he said they worked when they left the shop and I had to have screwed them up?????? I bought another set of the gear from John Light up Missouri way thinking Bruce had convinced me I was an idiot and maybe I could make another set of the gear work if I bought them. Guess what, as John Light told me, they didn't work for John or myself and I tried to engineer the issues out of both sets of gear to no avail (I'm an engineer!!). Anyway, I'll take $250 for one set or $400 for both and you pay shipping. The issue with the gear isn't the layout of the mechanics, it's the lack of machining knowledge! Darrell at Sierra actually uses a mill or some sort of CNC equipment and CJ appears to use a flat-file or wood rasp!

USA, Nicely done sir - what was your impression of the engine you chose and do you think either the Saito 82 or the OS FS81a would be a better choice? I could also use an OS FS 70. Thanks for any assistance. Howard

When will the A9 be available
Will you give us some insight as to when the A9 will be available? Your videos of the programming screens was really helpful, the posting of the manual set the hook and now we just want to push the buy button. Mine has been on back order since March 2009 from my long term supplier, Mr Tower Hobbies, so how about some inside skinny - when? [:D] Howard

RE: 3W Bearcat Build - Oh Yeah!
Mark, I got the pilot and interior kit from Bobby Wilson at Cactus Aviation when I bought the 'Cat. It was like pulling teeth to get the stuff after paying for it and the interior kit was from Bobby's plane he dorked. Bobby swore he can't get either of these items any more after I bought him out but you still might try to prod him and see if the story is the same as 9 years ago! If I remember, the pilot was an old MGA pilot and I don't have a clue where the interior kit came from. I'm building a smaller 'Cat right now so I'll get to deal with this all over again myself!!!! I love the big 'Cats so much I just can't do without one any longer!!

RE: 3W Bearcat Build - Oh Yeah!
Gotta love seeing you guys discuss this plane. I flew one of these for 7 years and had the time of my life showing it off and flying it. As was pointed out, it's NOT the best kit for anyone starting off in this hobby! I never had any flutter problems or anything else of major concern go wrong that I didn't cause myself. I sold the big "Cat to a guy named Dave Szabo in Minnesota about a year ago and now he's flying the darned thing and likes it. As much as I loved the plane I'd NEVER buy another 3W version as they're over-priced for what you have to do to make it into what it should be. It's not a matter of trying to save a few bucks on a Cadillac plane, you just don't get your money's worth as it comes from 3W. The end result for you guys with some stamina and patience will be a plane that'll knock your socks off. The Bearcat was the best flying warbird I ever flew and it presents very well for crowd (WOW!) appeal. Have fun guys.
