RE: RC Surfer
Dom - Hugh has no feedback to compare the twin boards yet....... I only surfed the 26" board with the normal keel on Maui Monday Board surfed well on the smaller waves - but I feel that I need more nose & nose rocker in the board. I will be using the Vee board on the next swell Need to ride lots of waves to give it a true test - will let you know Just hear on the news that Hawaii North Shore could have 10ft waves Sunday/Monday NOW we are talking rc SURFING

RE: RC Surfer
No Maui still has no waves - forgotten how long it's been since I rc surfed. We are expecting waves tomorrow... I water tested my 2 new indentical boards today, water tight and self righting - so I can surf them tomorrow. My Vee bottom board hops badly - so this afternoon I took some of the tail rocker out using divinicel & epoxy - will see if it is better tomorrow. I don't think I put in enough nose rocker either - oh well..... Loaded my truck up with 4 different boards, tools, lots of batteries, camera and ready for early start Dom - My younger sister lives 2 blocks back from Blouberg Beach on Dolphin Drive. The water is so freezing cold there....but it does get some good waves. Great place for kitesurfing too.

Kite - if you are back surfing there and see Mr KS again ask him to try your surfer girl..... It would be interesting to see what he can do................. Your rc surfing is reaching new levels & it's exciting to see. That board you built surfs like one of Maui John's masterpieces. Maui may have waves Mondayish......can hardly wait!

Aloha Dom, Kudos for great web site - you sure move fast in towards your vision & goals. I admire & commend you for all that you're doing for our wonderful sport. I did'nt know that you raced those offshore inflatable cats - SA & Oz folks are nuts with what they are doing with those things. Wish I could have done that when I was younger! What boats did you use?

RE: RC Surfer
Hugh's fins feedback I have used the "winged keel" fin on a nose rider longboard many years ago - no added advantage except more drag.... I also used what I call the "butterfly fin" on surfboard and then windsurf board - they sucked... Here is my old fin collection nailed to the side of my work shed in Maui - you can see that they are literally growing with lichens over the years

Maui still flatter than I can ever remember - I am sure looking forward to the BIG winter surf that should be here November.

Dom - your surfing getting better each day - yes Long Beach I had some real big surf back in 1975, insanely cold water with best waves about 2 mile walk along the beach from parking lot on south side. My 2 new builds are coming along, nearly time to install hardware and finish shaping the surfer girl (still to be named) - more hair & less boobs should do it...... Go kart races tomorrow night (125cc shifter kart), Sunday is truggy & buggy rc off road racing, Then golf Monday thru Friday Life is sweet on Maui

RE: RC Surfer
Dom - great to see your newest board is working so well. I am now building 2 "identical boards" that will use same surfer girl figure - only diff will be the bottom decks: one will have bulb keel like most other rc surfers one will have Vee bottom with no keel - finally I hope to be able to compare the bottom configs Picture are the shapes before laminating with epoxy (eps core). I just laid up both bottom decks today - top decks tomorrow. This build I will only be using fiberglass & epoxy - no carbon - to see if radio signal range is better. Will keep you posted...............................

Cape Town has some insane photog hiding behind the lighthouse with a camera in Dom's storm photos. I would love to throw my rc Sheila into a wave as thick as those shown breaking over the harbor jetty. Is that Simonstown? Good to hear your #5 build passed all tests with good marks. Maui still has no waves..............

RE: RC Surfer
Hugh's 5 cents worth: I really enjoy taking rc surfing pictures and sharing with others - especially when it becomes 'art'. This has nothing to do with ego or proving anything - as I'm with Tripper - I have nothing to prove! Surfcurls - I also totally agree with your post "focusing on focus takes away from the thrill......." - so that's why it's great when we have friends and fellow rc surfers also take turns shooting with camera.

RE: RC Surfer
Dom - your builds have become a thing of beauty. I really like the ratio of dude to board on the latest build of yours - easier to see when waiting for the big one out back! I will look into the 1W boost link you sent me. I use same Airtronics Maui John uses but he seemingly gets better more distance than I do - probably due to the fact that I only use carbon & epoxy with no fiberglass in my builds. Maybe its time to build an all fiberglass custom board & figure.... Still no waves on Maui......so I dug up 3 older pictures (John & Karl) just to remind me that one day SOooon there will be waves!

RE: RC Surfer
Dom - instant rebind is very important because we are surfing HEAVY reef & shore breaks that are close to shore - so that it is easier to see rc surfer. I previously had cheap Futaba, expensive Nomadio & Spectrum receivers - but they all had slow rebind 2-3 secs - not for me. Yes I still get lost connection when I am out too far in really big waves................still looking for a cure for this issue - does anyone know much about "Dragon Link" for on water use? Dom - your new board looks fantastic, worth more than $700 in my eyes. Very clean looking & I am sure it will ride even better than it looks. Kite - that Nikki sure does look real, great job. I am interested to know your layup config on her. Maui John - is the new board for your own or a customer, my film work now ended, so I am ready to play with "The Toys" as OSE sent me 2 ea 200amp esc for Silver Surfer - call me. Here is image that got me 2nd place in photo contest

RE: RC Surfer
Hugh is also using Airtronics + $199 radio with $100 receivers her is the reasoning: When Hawaiian surf is "pumping" you do not want to have any delay in the rebind after a wipeout. A 2-3 second delay is just not acceptable! I am of the opinion that cheap products are exactly that - I intend to use best quality products money can buy on my family, toys & tools. The only bummer is that I have to work to pay for the good stuff. Aloha Hugh

Aloha from Hugh on Maui, I am still here, but film work & a course in digital photography have kept me out of the water & custom rc building for several months now. I missed the only serious south swell while filming on another Island. Maui has been sadly lacking the bigger waves that get me going! Dom keep up the positive input on this forum. Hugh

RE: RC Surfer
Aloha Dom, I see your newest build and am wondering why you don't have a more gentle transition from bottom deck to bulb keel. Wouldn't hard transition make board kinda tight & less efficient in turns? I have not had chance to rc surf for about a month now due to film work - makes my wife happy, as I think she feels I play way too much! Also Maui is severely lacking waves so far this summer - those Ozzies are hogging them all.
