RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
ORIGINAL: theb1bman Butch I just wanted you to know why I have asked about CG so much and it's not to bust your balls. I am just trying to find something that works on my B1B. If I get one of my B1B's done and bring it to Texas do you think you could look at it and tell me what I could do different. My B1B is hand shaped and hand made with hand tools no power of the CNC and detailed drawings I have gotten it to be flyable just not flying sweet with the wing in any position heres a video of it [link]http://www.youtube.com/user/b1bman#p/u/0/hZAXbVDFbAM[/link]
OK all the dimensions I'm giving you are full scale. So you will have to calculate from there. The nose starting point is 39.46. The wing pivot is 969.0. The wing MAC BL 344.2327 . CG 25% of MAC is STA 987.85. With wings forward the target CG is 17% and 10% is max forward CG. I have found on models the CG is about 2% ahead of the full scale. Let me know if you need anything else. I will try to help. Butch

RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
ORIGINAL: pilotdude57 Bob and Butch: Does the B-1b have any wing washout? The F-14, for example, has 5 degrees of wing washout, so that as the wings sweep back the washout adds a continuously increasing up elevator effect, countering the nose down force caused by moving the center of lift aft. Apparently the movement of the center of gravity aft from the movement of the wings isn't enough. You said you tested some gliders, and that was without adjusting the center of gravity in addition to the CG moving by itself with wing sweep?
This is the last time I will respond to you ! You are wrong ! The F-14 has "NO" wash-out ! It has 1'30" anhedral in the mounting of the wing at the pivot point ! Which crates a camber affect when the wing is sweep. How do I know this? I have a set of factory drawings given to me by one of the head engineers about 20 years ago. The elevator does not move with wing sweep ! For someone that says he has done so much you know very little ! I'm dumber than "HELL" and you make me look like a "Genius" ! Now GO AWAY ! Butch

RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
ORIGINAL: pilotdude57 I'll explain it. I am a Commercial Pilot, Instrument Instructor, Multi-engine Instructor, with around 1,000 hours of Flight time and an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA at six different towers, so I've been in aviation since I was a kid. The only main difference in size of an aircraft is due to Reynolds numbers (air density and flow rates). The larger the aircraft the better it flys due to relative airspeed over the wing and air density, where, for example at 200 miles per hour a larger chord wing has the airflow take a longer time to go from the leading edge to the trailing edge, then say a 1/8 scale aircraft at the same speed where the air going from the LE to the TE is much quicker. In the latter case the air can't flow as smoothly, resulting in higher relative ''accelerated stall'' speeds (pulling the yoke suddenly back all the way at moderate or high speed), and the low speed stall speed is not true to scale, but higher in the model. Other than that, if the weight of the model and the wing area produce the same relative wing loading, no matter the size, and the airfoils are the same, performance would be the same. So the only difference is Reynolds numbers.
Thats not what you asked! So you ask a question and then answer it? Dude You need to go away ! You are the reason that there is MURDER / SUICIDE! RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
ORIGINAL: theb1bman I am still dieing to know about CG are you guys going to add wight to the wings or move existing wight?
Were not going to add weight or shift weight. We made a glider and did a few test. It didn't seem to bother the flying with the wings forward or back. Remember in the model you don't have wet wings like real planes. The glider actually flew better with the wings back. We CG it with them forward and it flew fine but better with them back. Pilotdude57. The weight does not grow proportionately with a model. A small model has all the things a big model has except volume. A model may get bigger but it doesn't add weight at the same rate. If someone can explain this better than me go a head.
