Need 2 Jetcat Solenoids
Anybody got any used jetcat solenoids they can spare at a reasonable price ? I need a couple but don't want to pay 80 bucks each for brand new ones. Thanks-Mike Oberst

RE: Best prop for a G 38?
Hi Fred-The last G-38 I had was on Twin Beech D18-It seemed to like a 20x8 the best. Lower RPMs than the 18" props and the Zenoah seemed to be happier there. Your mileage may vary of course, but it seemed to work for me. Best-Mike

RE: Share Your Thoughts....
As a small business owner with two storefronts, I can tell you that I would and do charge the 15% restock fee when there is time and labor involved with getting the item resaleable again. All of this is spelled out on the receipt, so there's no gray area. If you want a full refund, it needs to come back to me just like I gave it to you. Our mom and pop has been in business for almost 40 years and we have always done it this way. Does the policy ruffle feathers every now and then ? Sure, but most people understand that as a small business owner we can't return these items where we got them, but must resell them instead. You were more than fair with 5% and I would stick to my guns on this one. You ain't never gonna please 'em all-take it from me. -Mike Oberst

RE: spektrum vs JR
Wow Eaglepilot2, I thought I was the last one in the Carolinas to be flying 72mhz-apparently there are at least two of us. [:D] Like you, I have waited to let things shake out. The main reason I have not changed yet is because (knock on wood) my 72mhz JR 10x stuff has worked flawlessly for years and changing it for the sake of change makes no sense to me. I will change eventually, and probably will go with the new JR DMSS stuff, especially if they come out with a high end transmitter beyond the 11X, which I am guessing they will. Thanks-Mike Oberst

Comp ARF Stab Crooked
Need some help-Had to replace the fuse on my CARF Patty Wag-All was well until I took the stabs off of my old fuse and bolted them up to my new one. Seems the stab guide tube was glued in slightly crooked on the new fuse at the factory in such a way that there is a gap at the front of one stab and at the rear of the other. (about 1/8" at front of stab) Didn't notice this until too late, as my airplane is ready to fly again, so I've got to fix it somehow. Suggestions on the best way to proceed ? Thanks-Mike Oberst

RE: F9F COUGAR, AIRWORLD OR SKYMASTER?
What Jack says-Airworld has non-existent customer service. I too waited on Moki parts for months-Airworld will not so much as even respond most of the time. Finally, a fellow RCU member (from Germany) sent me the part I needed for free that he happened to have. Vogelsang does the best he can here in the states, but his hands are tied because of the Moki parts problem. Sad to have such a nice engine with a company behind it that could seemingly care less. -Mike Oberst

RE: 85
Had two of them a few years back. Both flew great, but a few things to keep in mind: They both were fairly heavy, and took up quite a bit of runway to get them up on the step. Quite fast once airborne and cleaned up though. One flew with the old Moki 2.1 setup and one with the Husky Challenger setup-gas was WAY better and easier to start. On landings, definately use the flaps; if you don't, she will chew up LOTS of runway before you ever get her slowed down. With full flaps and power management, it landed great. Don't be scared of it, just respect it, as it's a heavily loaded warbird. probably the most scale P-51 I've ever seen. Even has the correct airfoil as I remember. My first one had the Century Junk retracts (HORRIBLE) and my second one had Aerotechs (MUCH better). Hope this helps- Mike Oberst

RE: Eneloop batteries for giant scale P-47
If you wanna keep it simple, do what I do : I run dual Sanyo 2400 sub c packs (NO BS batteries is where I get them) in all my jets and warbirds. I run them through two seperate charge switches (JR only) and plug both into the recever. The only caveat doing it this way is you have to unplug one of the batteries before charging both in order to break the common ground. The Sanyo sub C, although not new technology by any means, is a proven workhorse, and they are quite durable. I replace them about every two years just for safety and have never had any issues. I am sure I will eventually try the A123's, but hard to fix something that ain't broke if you know what I mean. Regards-Mike Oberst

Hi Sam-I love hearing the sound of a truck also, but in my case it was motor freight ! Santa dropped off the 'ARF' version of what you are building: It's the 2009 Top Gun Expert class winning Ziroli 118" B-25. Proud to have it now residing in my hangar. Must give credit to Greg Hahn, the original owner and builder of this masterpiece. Certainly made my Christmas ! -Mike Oberst

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi Mick- Start procedure has been as follows : Choke on Ignition on Pull prop through with hand until you feel the 'bump' (usually 4-6 blades) Choke off Engine will then start easily when flipped smartly #3 will run until RPM reaches about mid throttle or slightly less but not at any higher RPM's We feel there is a bad coil on that cylinder that is breaking down under load, after checking with a modified spark tester Coil curently on order with Vogelsang. Cockpit Builder Needed
Hi Guys- Looking for someone who would be interested in assembly, paint and detail on a Dynamic Balsa cockpit kit. It is for the CARF P-47. For those not familiar with the Dynamic Balsa kits, they are very detailed and as such come with at lease one zillion pieces of ABS plastic. I need someone who enjoys this type of detail work and can do this 'office' the justice it deserves. Email me or phone 843-546-6511 days EST-Ask for Mike Oberst

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
You will also find that black stuff much more when #3 is not firing, even after break in. This is due to un burnt oil in the fuel from the cylinder that is not firing. Nine o nine is correct that tweaking the low end as lean as possible should help the problem. Thanks-Mike O

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi Guys- Big Dam Models is my 'crew chief', so to speak, (and long time friend / flying buddy) and is working on my Byron T-28 with Moki 150 upgrade. As he mentioned above, our problem is #3 cylinder seems to rarely hit at all. After several gallons, the top of the #3 piston is still shiny, and all others are black, which tells me it is not hitting much at all. It will fire at idle, but as the throttle is increased, it cuts out. With the cylinder dropped, max rpm is around 4200. When it hits (rarely), we see 5100 or so. As BDM mentioned, a turbolator would require massive firewall reconstruction. Hard to believe that something else is not going on here. We did pull the hall sensor and it appears to have seen some rubbing; but would only #3 cylinder be affected by bad hall sensor ? Seems that way back on the thread there was a guy from Iowa that fought this same problem on one of the early 150's, like mine is. Suggestions please !! Regards-Mike Oberst

RE: Byron/Ironbay T-28
Hi Craig-I am using the Robarts on the mains, and a Sierra on the nose. The sierra is a custom made gear, and it appears to be more stout than the Byron. Everyone else is using the Byron gear, so prob. not necessary to have the Sierra on the nose. So far so good on the Moki-I hope to maide her within a week or two. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks-Mike O.

JR Next New Transmitter ?
Does anyone know if there is a new JR transmitter coming down the pipeline ? I would think the next model would incoporate telemetry. I realize the 12X is still fairly new, but just curious, as I know the JR vs Futaba competition keeps both companies on their toes. -Mike Oberst

RE: Jetcat smoke pump burnout?
Hi Shaz- I had a Jetcat smoke pump on a Kingcat. When I first tried it in the on position, it made my jet roll slowly to the right-some sort of interference I guessed. Not being a big smoke guy, I decided not to trouble shoot, but just to not turn it on. I had it on a rotary knob, so was not worried about hiting a switch by mistake. BIG mistake on my part. About a year later, after many flights, I took off one day and the plane did the same exact slow roll to the right that it would do when the smoke pump was switched on. I lost the jet and my conclusion is that the smoke pump somehow came unprogrammed and switched itself on. Before I could figure out what happened, the jet went through some trees and was a total loss. If I would have just been smart enough to unplug power from the smoke pump after noticing my initial problem. In any case, I am convinced it caused the loss of my Kingcat. Regards-Mike Oberst
