RE: TA 152H Meister Scale Project Grun 4
ORIGINAL: David010567 Wow... I just realized that this big turbo scoop sits right where the batteries go. Hmmmm?
That's really cool. I would give serious thought to installing a small EDF motor to cool your Lipos. Not that you really need it, but it would be really neat and it could look just like the real thing (if you removed the scoop from a real FW, the fan is built right into the side wall of the airplane).

Great thread! If you are ever in Everett, WA.. Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection is not to be missed! Those are the best restorations I have ever seen, and most of them fly. I've been 3 times, and I live in Utah!

Carbon cuts best with abrasive cutters instead of saw blade. Think diamond grit, although less will do fine.

Pretty bird!! I was hoping for a Dora, but then again I could just get an ESM Dora. Nice move, Top Flite. My wallet and my wife may feel differently, though : )

Spinner Profiles / Cross-Sections
Hi Guys, I'm working on making a set of plans and I'm hoping that someone can point me towards a database of spinner side-views. All of the vendor photos are from oblique top-quarter angles, and it's tough to get a read on the true profile. It would be nice to see them from a pure side-view so I can design the nose geometry to match the curve. I'm hoping to design the airplane around off-the-shelf hardware to keep the costs to a minimum. Thanks

Looks like one of my warbirds after the flying season is over. I wonder if that Allison could be made to run again. I bet it's pretty well preserved, except maybe damage from the crash.

RE: Yak 3's practice day Vid Wanaka 2012
ORIGINAL: Chad Veich From what I've heard the Allison powered 'stang will actually run away from the Merlin powered models at low altitudes. Plus, the Allison P-51 is by far the sexiest version of the airplane! (That last part might just be my opinion though!)
+1 I think the Allison mustangs are one of the most underrated planes in history. History has a way of over-simplifying things (i.e. Allison mustangs bad, Merlin mustangs good). The fact of the matter is that it was one of the fastest propeller-driven planes below 10K throughout the entire war (despite the fact that it went active early, shortly after the battle of britain). I've read that lots of the RAF tactical recon pilots didn't want to "trade up" to spitfire mk. XIVs! It was no escort fighter, but theres plenty of stuff to bust up below 10k (railroads, river traffic, convoys, and every once in a while a fighter or two!)

RE: Are Scale RC Models Toys?
Scale models (whether flying or plastic scale) are not toys. They are more like historical recreations, sort of like museum pieces. They are built as reflections of the real world. Think of a civil war battlefield model, with all the little soldiers and trees and houses. It was built to tell a story, not to play with. Scale flying models are more like this I think, than just toys. If historical importance was not a part of the model, then it would not have rivets, weathering, authentic markings, etc.. Just my opinion. It's an interesting question.

I don't think it's a good idea to rest an airplane of that size upside-down on the canopy. Get one of those cheapo robart work stands. They are super handy.
