RE: 28th Roadrunner Pattern Classic
It was heartbreaking to see Bill loose his Nuance. But on the flipside, a great encouragement in character and sportsmanship as he hung out with us right up to the end- helping others, calling, judging, constructive feedback, coming to the evening gatherings, and all the while adding fun and camaraderie to the event. This is what makes pattern fun [:D]

RE: 28th Roadrunner Pattern Classic
Thanks to John Gayer CD, Richard Lindberg Asst CD, and the Rocky Mtn Flying Machine Club for putting on a great contest in very challenging wind/dust conditions. Only 3 rounds flown the first day due to wind. Today was forecasted for even stronger wind but John called for wheels up at 7:30am (which we met!) and managed to get the remaining 3 rounds in before 11am. Pictures-

Yea, these were Compacts and I needed the length as the batterys were getting shoved into the nose of a converted Focus. Fortunately for me, Sportsman is rarely held to the weight rules[:D]

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
ORIGINAL: vatechguy3 Kinda seems wrong to cut off the connectors on brand new packs. Tony
I know what you mean- just did it for 10 5s packs. But instead of cutting them off, I've been de-soldering them which leaves that big ol' 10AWG wire pre-tinned for the re-soldering process. Helps the process go a little faster. Then, what to do with all these 5 and 5.5mm bullets that are piling up?

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Myadvice would be to turn the power down or just be careful on the throttle! The first Vipers here in the UK flew on the JL T12 which produces about 28 pounds. Jeff

RE: 55AX mid throttle issues, fixed I think
ORIGINAL: flyboy9994 Hey Bax Brand new 55AX broken in per manual, maidened in a new airplane, first 3 or 4 flights fine with no incidents. Engine suddenly starts dying at mid throttle, right where I like to fly. Here's some background: Can easily duplicate on the ground. Cowl removed to observe fuel line and absolutely no air bubbles or disruption of fuel when engine quits. Engine does not hesitate or sputter, dies like a light switch turned it off. Good idle at around 2800/3000 RPM. Perfect transition to full throttle with no hesitation, Perfect full throttle flight at around 9000/9500 rpm adjusted slightly rich from max rpm. Tried pretty much everything: tuned needles, changed glow plugs numerous times and they looked perfect (OS #8), re-built entire fuel system. Removed and cleaned carb, nothing found. Raised tank to get it in-line with needle valve. Flown with cowl off and engine is definitely not overheating. Same exact problem. Still dies at half throttle... Here's the kicker: Changed to an OS F plug and problem instantly solved. Put her back together, cowl installed and 10+ perfect flights later with absolutely no mid throttle problems anymore. Do you have any ideas why the F plug would have made such a difference?? Randy
Yep . . Mine and others I know of do exactly the same thing. For what it's worth . . i have ALWAYS run an 'F' from my pre EP Pattern days. It's no good for slope soaring balast . . any other ideas ???? JB

RE: First electric?
Maidened my Osiris on Monday and had 10 flights on it by noon Tues. My first electric larger than a park flyer and wow- been so easy, could get spoiled pretty quick! Dialing in CG with battery location has been the toughest thing so far. Lack of experience on my part, but learning something with each flight. This has got to be one of the most surefire ways to having a light, straight, troublefree mount for learning Sportsman.
ORIGINAL: kenh3497 Jeff, Does the Caviler and the Commander have the same roots? The Commander was my first plane with a ''new'' generation McCoy 40 in it. It was the plain bearing with the finned case. I remember our club used to take an annual trip to Sig every year... labor. It is all going to come back and bite us in the ass in the end. RE: Andrew Jesky Precision Flight DVD
Tim- I've been following this video as I've assembled and set up my Osiris. Being new to electric and a pattern wanna be, I'm copying it exactly to give me a baseline for starting out. It's more about the design philosophy, assembly, setup, with some trimming and an excellent demo flight using the split screen to see transmitter and plane at once. It's well produced and aimed at those of us starting out. I'm impressed and thankful that Andrew Jesky and Fred Midgett went to the trouble to produce it.

RE: First electric?
Just finishing up an Osiris right now. An older traditional builder here and very impressed with the quality and simplicity of assembly. Also purchased the Andrew Jesky Precision Flight video and wow- it's almost like having US Champ in my shop telling me how to set it up! I highly recommend both Osiris and video. Plan to test fly mine next week.

RE: 1/4 scale F9F Panther build
Just a suggestion.....get some "Split Second" filler made by US Chemical. It is much lighter than light weight bondo, sands easier and squeegees on nicely. Uses a cream hardener like bondo and cures quickly. It is little hard to find, but you can find it online.

10C Program high Throttle Idle with Gear Up
Hello- When my gear (activated by switch) is in up position, I'd like to limit my low throttle travel to some value above idle to prevent flameout during manuvers. Need all other throttle programming (ie: throttle curve, full throttle end point) to remain the same regardless of gear position. What is the easiest way to program this on the 10C? It just ocurred to me that maybe I could assign a throttle dual rate to the gear switch and have the high throttle settings the same in both high and low rate. But how would my throttle curve be affected during the "low rate" gear up situation? Am I looking at the best way to acheive this? Thank you

RE: BYRON P51 wont start
Make sure your gaskets are lined up correctly. They have a small hole that allows a pulse of air coming from the crank case that lines up with a hole in the carb. Sounds like thats your problem. As you said your only running on the fuel provided from the choke.
