RE: 3w 106 TOC problems
If your engine has the 3w trumpet on it take it off the trumpet for the 106 has a large lip internal in the trumpet which catches fuel so that any fuel puddling cannot get out of the trumpet ................roll and the engine will stumble...................I did not know about the new carb block but mine ran perfectly after taking off the trumpet........also snugging down the carb bolts may help but DO NOT overtighten

Is it one of the TWO on the right or the ONE on the left.????? OR are they ALL ignition batteries? Maybe thats the new fad Im way behind in all this stuff!! Looks awfully like there are two packs on the right side and one on the left to me. Just trying to save the guy losing his pride and joy what are YOU oops sorry you doing??????? Well?? RE: 3W help
My 106QS would richen up to the point of almost dying in rolls / inverted and somestimes KE. Cured by throwing away the intake trumpet and running the carb pressure back into the fuz. I think the trumpet was trapping fuel and temp flooding the motor ..........it was full of fuel every landing. Anywho I dont know if this will help but just fyi

update on engine 2 and a bit flying gallons now without the trumpet turns the msc 26x10 at 6840rpm. Have to say removing the trumpet has transformed this motor. Amazing performance

HAVE YOU SEEN A MID-AIR AT A COMP??
HI THERE GENTS I AM TRYING TO DO A LITTLE INVESTIGATION ON THIS SUBJECT AS IT BECAME APPARENT TO ME THAT EVERY IMAC COMP IVE BEEN AT HAS HAD A MID AIR. IM A BIG FAN OF IMAC AND WILL BE COMPETING THIS YEAR NO MATTER WHAT........BEING AND OLD PATTERN GUY I JUST LOOKED AT THE NEW STYLE COMPACT SCHEDULES (I THINK THEY STARTED LAST YR) AND THOUGHT ABOUT 2 AIRPLANES IN A VERY TIGHT SPACE.....SPECIALLY IF YOU FLY A CLOSE AND SLOW STYLE. THE COMPS I HAVE SEEN THERE WERE TWO FLIGHTLINES IN EACH CIRCUMSTANCE FLYING WITHIN 100FEET OF ONE ANOTHER........AND I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS THE NORM? HOPEFULLY ITS A RARE OCCURENCE BUT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO GATHER SOME INFO PS MIGHT JUST BE ME!!!![sm=frown.gif]

RE: 3w 106 initial test run and observations cont.
Guys, the airplane was being flown very very conservatively..........................my point...............was that the common explanation of these symptoms (ie. an airflow issue around the carb) is perhaps misleading and I believe it to be excess fuel from a rich condition being TRAPPED inside the trumpet because of the trumpet construction causing the temporary flooding under certain manouvers. RE: Hitec 5955 TG servo with plastic servo arms
one thing also to be aware of is ..........Im not really sure how accurate these torque quotes are for servos...............I think some brands 300 oz servo is anothers 200 oz servo..........ALSO the hitec 5735 way I used on my old extra has WAY more moving power than the 5995 I hav on my new extra.........and if you go by the numbers it would suggest otherwise. Just a thought. To be honest i take the numbers with a pinch of salt til ive actually seen and handles the servo.......not to mention flying for 2 years on 1 servo per wing on an aeroworks 35% edge with multiplex servos @ 70 ozin................no problems what so ever.

RE: 3w 106 initial test run and observations
now the question is...................400rpm more than what..........open exhaust or standard muffler....? I bet they mean open exhaust because that would probably be the only proper standard as mufflers are so variable in their performance. To be honest 400 rpm gain on a full length tuned pipe does not seem very good..........try searching for the toni clarke practical scale website and looking at the gains in performance from seyer tuned pipes on zenoah 62's

RE: 3w 106 initial test run and observations
I have to say that my zenoah 62 with a Krumscheid tuned pipe gave monster power but had to be very very carefully tuned for header length. I tuned mine for max rpm on the ground with the prop and rpm range I was looking for. When doing this 1/4 inch makes a difference.

RE: 3w 106 initial test run and observations
are you going to tune the pipe lengths on a test stand Charles.............thats what i will do .....i think I may try the 106 on a couple of amt pipes or perhaps seyer pipes. I think that on the test stand you can properly set the right length for the headers to get the performance you want.

RE: 3W 106 Temperatures
I HAVE TO ASK..........why are you running that size of prop?..............you must only be getting 5500rpm or close to it? Think of it this way............the bigger the prop the more the load on the engine.........the more the load on the engine the less the rpm.........the less the rpm the slower the big fan on the front turns.........the lslower the big fan turns the ess the cooling on the AIR COOLED motor. If you have a noise problem put on a 3 blader

RE: 3w 106 initial test run and observations
I think the 106 on a properly tuned .........tuned pipe set up would be a MONSTER. In the UK after a day of cutting manifolds and testing.......I got a g62 over 800rpm more than open exhaust!!! Didnt care a rats ass about 3d........for pattern work it was amazing turning a seyer 21 1/2 by 11 1/2 3 blader at 7600rpm Problem is getting the plane to balance with tuned pipes...........its a carden extra......?? I have decided to build the 35%extra purely as an IMAC plane so pipes would not really be an issue if there were any throttling issues compared to 3d. Dick do amt make cans as well as tuned pipes if so wherre can i get some info? I agree with DP that the money charged for the cans at least is WAY over the top............If anyone can tig weld.......lets give it a try. I figure just a large volume muffler would probably be easy to make and could be fitted under the engine box between f1 and f2.

Oscar what do you mean when you say low and mid power is much better..........I dont understand? Low power is low power..............mid power is mid power................do you mean that low power and mid power are at different openings of the butterfly? If so I dont want that......the throttle response and midrange are perfect right now........please explain in more detail what you mean?
