Yup! Different scale. I looked up the prop size for the corsair on the internet: 13' 4" If my calculations are correct that makes a scale prop at about 29".

RE: Cool new 3 blade prop on the market
The standard diameter prop on the full size R2800 is 12' 7" (At least on the A-26 invader) That's 151". At 1/7 scale you get about 21.6 inches. I think that is pretty darn close, only 3/4 shorter per blade. Good for me anyway!

You're right, it's not a speed plane, but I am using it to break in some engines. The previous ones were unreliable, overweight and underpowered. After four engine outs in a row with resultant crashes, I went big! Now I have an engine that starts on the first flip! Also flying at 5ooo feet. I could not be happier. http://youtu.be/7K7Lr8vCbWw Need to tape the cowl down. Looks funny flapping in the breeze. Will try a 22 x 10 in the future.

Will let yu know. but may be another week. I had a 48 cc twin cylindar on it but it was unreliable. Have to balance the plane and the prop, and cut holes in the new cowl. Good luck with yours! Oh, BTW, it's a DLE 55, and the strap on top is for the movie camera!

RE: Seagull's
Joe Mamma nailed it. I was not able to see which engine quit. I could hear it going bad when it was over the power lines. When it flew past me it was still turning. I should have just cut the throttle and let it glide around to land. Hind-sight is 20/20! But, yes, I put in the wrong rudder and it snaped into a spin. I had the plane in a spin before and recovered by cutting power and gliding until I could figure things out and fly around with rudder, just not this time. But, believe it or not, most of the plane is intact. It landed straight down in a large ant hill (read soft dirt). The nose is gone up to the cockpit. The cockpit was not damaged. The nacelles are toast. Wings are not hurt. Wing tube is not bent. One engine was not running of course and the other had been throttled back so they are good. Since I hated the nose, cockpit and nacelles on the DA, this might be a good thing! Seeing all the great modifications on this thread might lead to a better looking plane. We will see if I have the time to rebuild this winter. I'll try to get a picture of the plane tonight and post it.

RE: Yak
Yesterday was my YAK's expiration date. Darn! And it was so much fun. I changed engines last week because the first one was broke in. Had some good flights this week, but decided to lean out the top end just a tad. Wrong! Took off into about a 10 mph breeze. Engine quit at 40'. Not enough poop to get it to turn around and land. I was going to run this engine the rest of the year then switch it out to a G62 that I have, along with the new cowl that I never used. So, anyone need a cowl?

RE: Opinions on Century Jet Gears
Finally got some time to work on the nose gear. Installed a micro switch and pull/pull. Replace tiller arms with a ball and socket set up from RC cars. There is so much hardware on the pull/pull and it is so short that I do not need springs to take up the slack. I have not tried it yet but pretty sure it will work.

RE: Opinions on Century Jet Gears
"A bracket for the switch could be fashioned and have the switch mounted so that the switch toggle/arm is directly above the steering arm pin. The switch should be mounted so that it travels along with the retract as it goes through the cycle. The micro switch should be a normally open switch. When weight is on the gear the pin will be pushing up against the switch arm thereby creating a closed/complete circuit of the steering servo ground Wire for sale for your project needs at West Florida Components! wire. This will allow your steering servo to function with weight on the gear. " Ronnie, you are right! I jumped up out of my chair to go look at the gear. Chad's idea of a switch will work like you say above, only it does not have to travel with the gear. The only time it is needed is when the gear is down and the top of the steering arm moves upward due to the weight of the plane on the ground. Thank you guys! See, I get you guys to do my thinking for me so my brain does not explode! [:D]

RE: Opinions on Century Jet Gears
Thank you Chad. And, I understand having the servo on it's own with a switch for on and off. But there is time between when you retract the gear (turning the steering servo on) and when the plane lands (putting weight on the gear to unlock) that I am concerned with. If there was a way to unlock the steering right when the gear retracts, instead of waiting until the plane lands, that would do the trick! Maybe you're right. Maybe I should remove the lock. I could add something into the wheel well so that the tire is snug on both sides against the bottom of the plane. Air pressure is supposed to keep the gear up anyway! So I could then use a switch or program the radio. Will have to think on that. [8|] Dan

RE: Opinions on Century Jet Gears
Chad & Ronnie, thanks for your input! Taking up the slack is an idea that I can incorporate. Thanks! As to the stearing lock when the weight is off, this is necessary so that when the gear retracts up into the wheel well ( the wheel pivots 90 degrees and lays flat against the bottom of the well) it will not turn and bang against the gear doors while in flight. Photo # 2 and 3 show the lock. Photo 1 is gear up. I am now thinking of using springs w/cables between the servo and steering arms like a tail wheel on my Yak (pic # 4) What do you think?

RE: Opinions on Century Jet Gears
Since you'll talkin' CJ gear, I purchased a set for my Don Smith A-26 many years ago. Have yet to finish this beast. The nose gear rotates as it retracts up. Question is what is the best way to hook up the nose gear steering to these tiny pins? Also, the servo will be forward of the gear so that when the gear retracts the controll lines will go slack. When the gear is down there is a lock, so that the wheel will not turn unless there is weight on it. Which means that if I use rudder while the gear is down but before landing, the servo will stall. Is there a servo saver that can be used? Other method(s)?

RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
Mine is done for the year. Took off and the engine did not sound right so came right back in. Overshot the runway into the soft dirt. Plane flipped over. Pilot has head trama! I took it home and discovered a split in the tank. Inside is a mess. So took off covering and will clean it up this winter. Will add better retracts that I already have. See ya next year!

RE: Seagull's
OK, so today I go out to the field with my P-47. After putting the wings on I check the control surfaces and find the ailerons don't look right. They are fully deployed to make the left wing drop. Look through my radio at the sub-trim, endpoints, mixes, etc. Everything looks normal. What's up with that? Bring my stuff home and check out my DA. Same thing, ailerons stuck in one direction. Ah..... So that's why when I took off last week, the left wing dropped! Took almost full right rudder to keep her flying. At the time I thought I had lost an engine, but when it flew by I saw they were both turning. So then I thought maybe one was out of sync. Could only fly on half power. Came around again to land and the nose gear turned 90 degrees on me again. Nosed over and broke both props. This time I found that the set screw was not on the flat spot. So brought it all home thinking to check the alighment of the motors. Why else would it drop a wing like that when both motors sounded so good? I am pretty anal about checking control surfaces before every flight. Seen too many planes go in due to aileron reverse. So I am pretty sure that something happened to my transmitter between starting the engines and taking off, or maybe I missed seeing the obvious. Not sure at this point, but at least I was able to fly it with rudder and made a landing, be it hard. Pretty happy with that. So, I guess I send the transmitter in for inspection or repair, unless someone knows if I should be looking elsewhere for the problem. It is a Futaba 9CAP. Dan
