RE: LHS Rant!
I have stopped by two LHSs in past month and noticed one thing missing....kids. They were notably absent from the stores and especially the R/C area. We need to bring youth to the excitement and awe of R/C flight....foam, glued sticks, whatever. For many of us, the thrill of airplanes started young and led to building more complex kits after we cut our teeth on control line .049s and other simple options. Give a nephew a RTF Champ and teach him to fly. Invite a neighbor and his kids to the field to help them catch the bug. I keep cheap balsa gliders in my radio case and give them to kids who show an interest at the field....a start I hope.

RE: Official HZ Champ!! & Micro Flyers thread
I wondered if there was a thread out here about this great little plane... I have a half dozen other planes but nothing beats the quick and easy fun that this little guy offers. Since buying it in May from Advantage Hobbies (I found it at Joe Nall 2012 for $79 but talked myself out of it!) I think I've flown it just about every day. I wait for the pre-dusk calm, fire up the DX7s, grab four batteries and head to the front yard where I can buzz the house and overfly the neighbors for a good half hour. The only down side of flying this so often is having to remind myself to use the left stick for rudder when I switch over to my four and five channel planes! This one will be in my hanger for a while...good fun for minimal money. Quick video with a mini DV camera strapped to the bottom. I didn't expect the Champ to lift this combination but I was surprised.

RE: Joe Nall Aerial Video
I was at the noon show on Friday, May 18 when you took the flight line video. Very impressive interview and background on the market for this technology. Hope to see you again at Joe Nall Electric Week in late September 2012!

RE: HOBBY king going down the tube?
The only way to get any response from HK/Nitroplanes these days is to post your situation on their RC Discuss forum...Nitro Support. I bought the same plane but as RTF. Tx/Rx were junk (newbie at the time...lesson learned) and they eventually sent a replacement Tx but it is collecting dust while I'm using a DX7s. Bottom line, HK/Nitro won't answer the phone or reply to a ticket but they may reply on their forum.

RE: painting foam
GWR - I noticed the main and tail wheels on your Formosa. I'm building one now and have not intention of installing the GWS wheels, but I might install the ones you used...they look much better. Any weight concerns?

RE: Dynaflite 1830mm Piece O'Cake...photos
I think my Gentle Lady and your Piece O'Cake might have shared space and time back in the day; however, all that is left of my GL is the rudder, some left over covering and fond memories. Let me know if you need the plans for the tail...looks like we live close to each other.

Mini DV camera mounted on Flyzone Switch
$18 mini DV camera rubber band mounted to the cowl of my Flyzone Switch for my first FPV video. A post on a sister forum suggested saving the video as "mpeg2" for quicker upload speed. I recognize that locating the camera away from the prop arc will improve the image. Any other tips would be appreciated.

RE: Need some Help - I want to buy a good Foamie
I bought Nitro's Airfield/FMS 1400mm RTF Corsair and learned quickly that Airfield shouldn't be in the Tx/Rx business. I have since scraped those items and replaced them with a DX7s/AR8000 with absolutely no problems. The kits are well made but require a bit of attention - proper hinges, increased ventilation, etc. As you've mentioned, Nitro/FMS has fantastic looking foamie warbirds but their service and parts after the sale are horrible. I've used PW-RC mentioned previously and Hobby Paradise...you can find what you need in the virtual world. Good luck! Four-blade scale prop and hub for 4250 motor...$15 for blades and hub.http://www.hobby-paradise.com/en/en/...sort=2a&page=7

RE: Setting up the GWS Formosa II
I just picked up a Formosa kit after finishing a GWS P-51D (inexpensive and fun to build!). The instructions indicate the CG is, "...90mm+- 10 from the leading edge of the wing." Looks like you have 80mm to 100mm from the leading edge provided the translator didn't get mixed up...good luck! (This CG is for the Formosa, not the Formosa II. Aside from the full length control surfaces, the photo suggests they are very similar).

RE: Dynaflite 1830mm Piece O'Cake...photos
Thanks. The grass runway is about four miles south of 19A, Jackson County, Georgia. Local farmer and pilot generously lets us use his field to fly R/C.

Dynaflite 1830mm Piece O'Cake...photos
Finally finished the Piece O' Cake motor glider. Modified the .049 plans to use a 8x3.8 prop, 0.10 SuperTigre motor, 3s/1800/15c and 30 amp ESC. Using a Tactic 2.4Gz 4-channel Tx and Tactic 6-channel Rx left over from a RTF kit. Streamlined the control exit points, upgraded the elevator/rudder control linkage and added ventilation to front and rear to cool the ESC/battery. This plane climbs like a rocket (a wee bit overpowered!) with less than a quarter throttle. With minimal throttle, the climb is pleasant resulting in 30+ minute flights and 20-23% power consumption (that is without significant thermals. The hot summer air in Georgia should extend the flight times). I've added a few photos and a video taken with an $18 Mini DV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB4s-2knCQo PS - shout out to www.callie-graphics.com for making the stock PO'C decal from a photo for a very reasonable price.

Piece O'Cake decal wanted
I just finished a Piece O'Cake build that came out great. I opted for an electric set up versus .049 and I don't regret it at all! Really long flights when thermals cooperate. Question...I am searching for the large, yellow "Piece O'Cake" decal pictured in the box art. It was not included in the kit and Dynaflite customer service cannot locate one. Does any have the decal or know where I might get it? Thanks!
