RE: Build your own RX battery pack.
This is a great thread for me. I have so many questions and lack of knowledge about batteries and found this to be a great beginning. The video posted RE: building battery packs answered many questions about technique thanks

60 size ARF
What is a good 60 size ARF ...must be an ARF.. with a symmetrical or semisymmetrical airfoil that is a good 2nd plane. Have done loops rolls some inverted flight with my trainer but want to step up. I have read tons of previous posts on good 2nd planes, but am looking for a down and dirty answer or suggestion thanks

RE: 1st U.S. RC Flight School
ORIGINAL: bignasdy Im now gonna charge 700 bucks and take a week to teach someone. Call me!
Big You bring the conversation back to money. Do you have a problem teaching for free? It isn't about money, it is about value. I would love to see statistics on how many of 1st RC's startups are still flying as compared to how many club startups are still flying. I would suggest that a significant percentage of folks that show up at the club field return a few times and are never seen again.I would like to compare the student who shows up at the club with a trainer setup so that we compare folks that have a monetary investment. After 5 days of flying Dave's startups are over the hump. After how many weeks or months of club flying does the average student who does indeed continue to return finally get over the hump. I should probably drop this topic but you seem to be defensive because another model exists which has proven successful in training students. I mean no offense by this post, just my thoughts

RE: 1st U.S. RC Flight School
ORIGINAL: bignasdy I usualy have people taking off and landing on the 4th flight. For Free just sayin d
I hear what you are saying, and that is great for a confidence builder. I wish my club experience had been as fulfilling as the experience you have shared with your students. As a full scale aerobatic pilot and RC pilot I know that takeoff and landing are a very small part of learning to fly an aircraft (although criticallly important that we get them safely back on the ground) It certainly takes a lot longer to teach how to keep turns level without climbing or descending and the subsequent consequences of the porpoising or mushing that can result, and the aerodymic consequences resulting. For me, in 5 days I learned take off, landing, level turns, flying to a point, low level flight, 360 and 720 degree turns, figures of eight, go arounds, and much more that I cannot think of right now. It reminds me of when i got my full scale ticket and was told that I now had a license to learn. That is what it felt like when I finished at 1st US RC Flight School. I had the good basic skills to go back home and build on that training and can now go as far as I want. I elected to do my training in the spring so I would have all spring, summer and fall to hone my skills. So far, going well.

RE: Newb in MD
ORIGINAL: MDFlyer83 I havent but Alex fly's in Chase MD at a farm, its the clubs field but im not sure what its called. Actually I went for my first time yesterday, the landing strip is pretty small but as Alex and I agreed on itll make you a better pilot. Perhaps contacting Middle RIver Hobbies will lend the answer you need. Are you new to flying?
Not new but still a beginner. fly mostly on my farm with 800' X 50' strip. have flown with RCMB in Parkton but like farm scene better better than club scene. Have friends that love Westminster Aeromodlers which has two fields and a pond or lake. Live in Northern Balto county but work in downtown and was looking for club that i might join for occassions when i have time in middle of afternoon when at work and can sneak away for an hour or so

RE: 1st U.S. RC Flight School
I attended 1st US RC Flight School, and if you read the tons of testimonials on the web site I will promise you that everyone is accurate.. It is going to be the best training experience you will receive as a beginner. There is a 1 year waiting list for the 5 days to solo course and that is for a good reason. Do not confuse the aerobatic course with the primary solo course. I think the solo course is only offered 4 times during the flying season. You will fly as much as humanly possible during your 5 days (only 3 students are in a class and you rotate so you fly a ton. I was soloing by Wednesday and probably had 30 - 40 solo landings by friday. YOu will learn to fly in winds routinely at 15 - 25 mph and be amazed how well you will do. As previously stated, Dave Scott is a successfull full scale aerobatic pilot (NOT A STUNT PILOT) and has taken many of the full scale principles and applied them to RC. The other two students in my class also had the same experience. Two of us had some experience, and one had never so much as had his hands on a radio or RC Plane. When I went I was totally frustrated with the club methodology of teaching and was progressing and regressing simultaneously: no preflight briefing, no post flight briefing, quality of instruction from poor to excellent, flying with whomever was available, do this and do that, but no explanation of how to do this or that and the principles behind it. Dave is very clear on his web site and in his books regarding his principles so study his web site carefully and decide for yourself if it fits you. For most folks, the club is the way to go, but if you can afford the fee and have the time, you will leave the school flying very confidently solo and in wind. You do not get any plane when you leave, but will be knowledgable about planes, radios, safety, etc. You will spend more money crashing planes at home than you will spend in the school. Oh and by the way, Dave Scott is a super guy and this is his profession, not a hobby, so his instructional techniques are those of a professional teacher, not a hobbyest. I guess by this testimonial that can tell that I was happy with my experience. It met my goals which were to be a confident and proficient pilot with good skills that could return home and practice with a trainer without crashing and progress at my pace toward my 2nd plane. I came home and am flying an Alpha 60 at least 4-5 times a week, have not crashed and am doing great and having a blast.

Airtronics Receiver problem
Just upgraded to an Airtronics RDS 8000 with FHSS 8 channel receiver. Am building a new ARF and have Futaba S3003 Servos. Can I use these servos with the Airtronics equipment. If so, the connectors from the Futaba servos do not fit into the receiver. Do I have to change out the connectors, or are they incompatible thanks

RPM's in OS .40
I have a plane with an OS .40 and it seems as though the engine is not turning up as it should. I took it off and put it on the engine stand and checked the RPM's with a 10 x 6 prop and it is turning 10,100 - 10,200. I was not thinking and never checked it while on the plane. Does this RPM sound correct? Other variables when on the plane could be tank, fuel lines, etc. Maybe if I have time friday I will re-install it on the plane and check the RPM's thanks Irvin

Spectrum receivers
I am posting for a buddy. He just bought a spectrum DX6i radio. I am told that you can get receivers called "orange receivers" that are compatible with this radio. They are quite inexpensive. When researching I find them on Hobby King and ebay. Thay say they are compatible with and Spectrum that is DSMX or DSM2. Does anyone know if these will work with the above mentioned radio? The listed receiver is AR6210 for that radio thanks

Real Flight G2
I cross posted this on the Sim forum also I know it is past time to get a new sim, but the real flight G2 is what i have. I am trying to mix aileron and rudder on the P40 to eliminate adverse yaw. as a rookie i am not ready to use my left hand yet to bring rudder into play and since flat bottom wings with tons of dihedral have severe adverse yaw i wondered if this version will "mix". Does anyone know how to do it. ALSO if i upgrade what is the consensus Real Flight or Phoenix thanks Hide Signatures

Airtronics RDS 8000 Radio
What is the report of the Airtronics RDS 8000 2.4 GHz radio. I am thinking of buying this. I have selected this because a good flying buddy of mine has it and can therefore shorten my learning curve. Also I found a web site that includes 2 receivers and free shipping at the same price that all other sites want for 1 receiver. I still fly trainers but hope to move up soon Irvin
