RE: Fuel line tie wire?
ORIGINAL: highhorse
ORIGINAL: eddieC Safety-wire pliers ??? Â Really ?? And I thought small zip-ties were overkill. (They're just as good, if not better. Almost impossible to cut the fuel line if over-tightened. ) KISS
Yes, really ;-) I must be doing something wrong though. I have never, ever cut a line by tightening the wire. I have gone too tight and broken the wire a couple of times, but the Tygon was fine afterwards. In my experience it's not about keeping the line from falling off, it's about taking a couple of wraps around the fuel line and tightening the safety wire to make a perfect seal. I haven't had a single air bubble in several years now except those recently caused by a bad filler plug seal where the line had hardened and the line is obviously not tied. Works for me and lots of other folks who don't think an extra pair of pliers and 1/10 of one cent worth of quality stainless wire is an extravagance. If others want to use bread twisties on their jets I'm all for it, but I will go with the best materials available on mine to ensure that my thumbs remain the greatest threat to my jets' longevity. ;-)
+1000!!!! And thats the differance between going to the field and flying and going to the field and fixing....

RE: Turbine Heli Qualification
A turbine helicopter may not be required for the flight demo but the applicant still has to demonstrate a general understanding of turbine operation including start up and emergency procedures. If I am signing him or her off I want to see thier equipment install and have them go through a start sequence.

Sin City Jets!
Guys, Sin City Jets is a GO! The date is set for Nov 1-3... Come on out and join us in Sin City for a great event! The weather and field promise to provide a great time. This year we are under new management as Paul Judice and myself will Co-CD this event! Traditionally, this has been a smaller event and the guys that come every year love it. Get as much flying as you want at a world class facility! This is a flyers event! No noon demos, no closing of the flight line for spectators...the only interruption in the event is the paint ball shoot. It lasts about about an hour and everybody enjoys the carnage! We will have a few awards....TBA later! This year we have lowered the entry fee (times are tuff!) to $30. We will also have a special guest in the form of the Dreamworks Mobile Hobby Shop. Ours will be one of the very first events to host this mobile mecca of jet parts! So, Make your plans to attend. Come out to Vegas, bring the wife....fly all day, party all night and leave nothing behind! Hope to see you here!

RE: Ultra Flash ground handling
I had nothing but issues on my Flash until I changed the nose wheel. It has nothing to do with left hand practice or anything else for that matter. You want to dick around with all the different suggestions given here, knock yourself out. Once you get that out of your system, you will finally change your nose tire and your problems will be over. With 357 flights in 14 months I am speaking from a position of experience.

RE: Ultra flash or Bandit
We currently have a Bandit and a Ultra-Flash. The bandit is areodynamically perfect and flys about as true as an airplane can get, zero bad habits....but its not the most robust airframe out there and can be a little fragile. The UF on the other hand is about as rugged airframe money can buy. Hard landing, no problem....60G 180 degree turn at 200mph, pfttt child's play... However, the UF does need some mixing in certain situations.... Dollar for dollar, the UF wins hands down. If you want perfection in flight, its the Bandit all the way....

RE: [Deleted]
Your quality will go a long way with serious modelers. I know that everyone of the F14's that flew at Kentucky Jets were worked over pretty good. Things were changed, modified, repaired, improved, etc. Everyone of them had one issue or the other...The guy with the Electric conversion had the overall best luck. I believe that there is a market for a high-end, quality products like you are producing. Press on, the rewards will come!

RE: What a save !!! (dead stick landing)
Good work, heads up flying for sure. One thing me and my son do when we fly at a new site is take a few minutes to discuss emergency operations. We look the site over to determine where we are going to put an airplane if we have an issue. This is a good practice and has save us an airplane one one occasion. Its the callers job in these situations to give as much information as possible to the pilot when events like this happen. On a side note, I just cant believe how long some of the runways you guys fly off of. With real-estate like that I cant see how a dead stick is even a problem.

RE: SkyMaster MB339 Build Thread
I have sold my 339 (HUGE MISTAKE) but I know the guy who has it now, he cut the flaps loose and re-hinged them in a more traditional way. Now, there is no way they can get hung up. He was flying her at Speed World last year and I was totally amazed on how slow he could get her on approach. Flaps and Crow and it work like a charm! Did I mention how much I miss mine????[&o][&o][&o]

RE: SkyMaster MB339 Build Thread
Be careful when using lots of flap throw, if you get to a point where the flap leading edge wiper disengages from the trailing edge of the wing it could get bound up and stall the movement of the flap...ask me how I know...

RE: CARF Flash pricing
ORIGINAL: luv2flyrc
ORIGINAL: Dave Wilshere CARF held their prices too low, too long and that is the problem, we get used to false value. I think CARF models represent excellent value, In the UK we can almost have two Ultra Flash's to one Super Bandit, so? Dw
Dave, that may be true but, unfortunately massive price increases of 20%to 60% will result in a massive sales drop putting the company in no better position. I will not buy something today that I could have had for 50% less yesterday. Over here, the gap between a Bandit and Flash is much closer. Mike
+1

RE: CARF Flash pricing
In our little local circle of Jet Pilots we all say that you can not beat the value of the Flash, dollar for dollar it is the best thing going! As their prices increase they soon will be in BVM range and then things change. I am not going to pay compARF BVM prices when I can pay BVM BVM prices.... Just like everything else, they become popular and they are going to price themselves right out of the sweet spot that made them popular in the first place. As an example, I am looking to get a 160 sized ship for Jake and I have been looking at Hawks...I can get a SM Hawk for about the same price as a UF....

RE: London Olympics are fantastic!!
ORIGINAL: -JC-
ORIGINAL: rcjets_63 2) Also during the parade of competitors, as each country was announced, the graphics on the TV showed the country's name, population, number of athletes, name and sport of the flag bearer as well as a graphic of a world map with the country highlighted in blue. All good info. What I found repugnant is that the graphic also had the US highlighted. Does NBC think that the average American is so stupid that they cannot recognize where their own country is on a world map, or it is just always necessary for the US media to link anything international to how it relates back to the United States. Just saying, Jim P.S.: Well done UK, good luck to all participants from all nations. May the event bring out the best in all humanity!!!!! P.P.S: Go Team Canada!!!!
Jim, I'm sure a majority of Americans would have trouble finding most of the smaller countries on a map :)
And thats why BO is POTUS and will get re-elected....

RE: Custom painting
I used my Iwata hp bcs airbrush to out line then filled it in and used my minijet. here is some of them assembled.
Yeah, yeah, yeah....and then you had a sandwich and watched the game. Every painter guy I have ever talked sounds exactly the same, "I just did this, blew on some of that, and shot some clear...no big deal" or my personal favorite "It only took me a few hours..." Don't get me wrong, that's some nice work...it's just very frustrating for me as paint can make or more likely break a project...nobody see's the hours and hours of construction, all they see is the finish and if you are not a painter, well.... Again, very nice work.....
