RE: Does anyone recognize this Bobcat!!!!!!
Not a Tornado. The booms extend beyond the leading edge of the wing like a Bob Cat and there are leading edge extensions, Tornado does not have leading edge extensions... Larry

RE: Hamburg Jet Jam roll call
Hi proline 8000, I checked the type of epoxy resin I'm using and it's Fiber Glast 2000. This is what I was told to use by someone that builds RPV's. All the fiberglass bodies I have ever seen have the fiberglass strands going front to rear in the lay-up in the mold. I have never seen any with the strands 45º to the mold. Not saying they don't exist. I checked the fuselage about 20 minutes ago and it's a lot stiffer than before. I think I can get away with it like this. There are no formers in this fuselage yet, so I guess when I get them in, it will br a lot stronger..... Larry

RE: Hamburg Jet Jam roll call
[8|]Hi Proline8000, I will have this fuselage at the Hamburg Jet Rally in Oct. I just laid up another layer of 6 oz today from the hatch opening at the front to the hatch opening at the rear. The rest of the fuse is strong enough, I think. What weight carbon fiber cloth did you use around the nose gear, hatch and the vertical fin? This is the first time I have laid up a fuselage this size and for a turbine of 22 lbs thrust. I have mabe bodies for .40 and .60 glow engines. Thanks for the comback.... Larry

RE: Hamburg Jet Jam roll call
[8D]Looking forward to serious flying at this event. The Ziroli Panther had been getting in some air time lately. Will have my FJ-1 Fury Fuselage for some of the guys to take a look at. First time making a fiberglass fuselage for a 76" wingspan turbine jet. Need to get working on it for next year. Hi Ron Stahl, Took your advice on the two layers of 6 oz glass cloth, looks like I need more. Real thin and will flex real easy along the middle of the fuselage on both sides. I didn't use any Gel Coat so I have a few spots to fix along the side of the hatch opening and the rear of the fuse at the outlet. Time will tell......... Larry Wright

Just go to your local building supply store, Lowes Or Home Depot, and get a strip of 1/8" angle Aluminum. I use them all the time to make things like that. Following this thread all the way so far........ Good Luck, Larry

Hi Chris, Real nice job on this A-4. I was looking at your radio install and I noticed that you have the antenas running along side each other. If that is a Futaba FASST receiver, I would run one antena 90º away from the other one. You might have a problem with that install the way it is now...... Good Luck..... Larry

RE: Jets Over Kentucky Part II (Crash)
Hi Bob, I have been told not to balance a full flying stab just for that reason. I was told to add a little weight to the leading edge of each stab to help in reduceing the load to the servo. Do not balance to the point where the stab is in neutrtal if you remove the linkage. The digital servo keep looking for the neutral position trying to overcome the weight in the stab....... Larry

RE: Maj. Woody's X-Treme Jets BAE Hawk 1/5.5
Sluggo, If I was at the point you are at with this linkage problem, I would add another horn next to this one and put the ball in between the both of them. But in doing so, I would space them far enough apart and use the brass spacers that come with the ball link kits. This would allow enough movement to give you more than enough rudder travel......... RE: Maj. Woody's X-Treme Jets BAE Hawk 1/5.5
Sluggo, Do you have aluminum arms on your servos or the heavy duty plastic arms? I learned a long time ago not to use plastic or nylon servo arm on anything that you might fly faster than 100 mph. Also I noticed that Dom paints his horns. If these are heavy duty plastic, never paint plastic that is used in a high stress application. It is known that paint will attack the plastic, just like CA or Loctite. I hope Dom gets back into flying jets again. He really must have missed them or he wouldn't have gotten back into them. Hi Dom, Everyone is hoping you stay with them since you know what caused the servo arm to fail...... Larry

So I do believe the side frames for the Ziroli Panther Robart #630 will work on the Robart #635. Here is the side frame # for the Ziroli Panther side frames: ZF9F-001M. This would give you a mechanical up lock. Just thought you would like to know..... Larry

Hi Joe, I have a Ziroli Panther with Robart #630 retracts and they have a mechanical up lock. I just purchased a set of Robart #635's and I think the side frams from the 630's will fit the 635's. Robart should be able to let you know if they do or not. Just a thought for the mechanical up lock..... Larry

Thanks Alan, Are most of these instrument kits for prop planes? I know I'm getting a little picky here, but I'm building a turbine jet. Maybe there wasn't a lot of difference between the prop planes and the jet in the 50's and I'm not going to Top Gun, but I would much perfer jet instruments over prop planes.... Thanks,,, Larry

RE: 1/4 scale F9F Panther build
Hi Joe, I'm sure you'll get the CG correct no matter what it takes. Does Vladimir make thrust tubes for others or just for you guys? The reason I'm asking is this, I'm scratch building a 1/6th scale FJ-1 Fury and I need a thrust tube. It has a 70" fuse and the tube will be around 30" long. Don't know if you have ever heard of this jet before, but it was the first jet the Navy had in squadron service and the first to land and take off a carrier. Where we fly, I need straight wing jets. Not much room for swepback wing or delta jets...... Larry

RE: 1/4 scale F9F Panther build
That looks good, but I would fill the space between the tab in the hatch and the block in the fuse so you don't break off the tab when you tighen down the screws. Have you given any thought to how much weight you might have to add to the nose by mounting the turbine that far back? If your turbine weights 3 pounds, you might need as much as 10 to 12 pounds of nose weight. I have a Ziroli Panther powered with a P-80 and it's mounted as far forward in the fan mounts as I could get it and not have a large thrust tube, and it still took 1.5 pounds of weight along with the receiver and ECU battries in the nose to get it to blance right. I also had to balance it so the nose is 25º below level so it wouldn't climb out at a 40º nose up attitude. Don't forget these were designed for Ducted fan and the incidents is set for fan, not turbine. I am watching you progress. Good luck with them........ Larry
