ORIGINAL: gaRCfield Yeah the process is straight forward. As soon as I have my shop clear and the parts procured, it looks like a fun and fairly quick build. I will probably spend more time trying to decide what axles and tailwheel to use, lol
Use Bolly CF E-landing gear and wheelpants, central hobby aluminum axles, and light 2-3/4" wheels.
ORIGINAL: gaRCfield There is a little Vanquish that flew FAI at a contest in D1 a couple of years ago. It was the CD's (Frank?). I did not see anyone laugh at him. I am going to fly my .90 size Yak at NATS this year. I hope I hear someone laugh. It means I was there and flew. I just got my first 2M plane after 4 years in the hobby and flying pattern. It will not be cheap. But it has been my patient decision to invest in something I care so deeply about. There is no requirement to fly a 2M plane.
ORIGINAL: gaRCfield What is the best linkage system to use with the stock (phenolic?) control horns? I was thinking about the carbon rods and titanium ends from Central, but I really prefer a mechanical linkage (not relying on adhesive). It also seems that ball links are not to be used on this type of control horn?
Joe, on my Integrals I used the Dubro clevis on the control horn, MK ball links on the servo arm and Hangar 9 Titanium 4-40" Pro-Links. Hundreds of flights with this setup.

RE: Nuance
ORIGINAL: danamania Maiden day. [:D]Â Squeezed in one quick turn around the onion patch (cornfield actually) between a thundershower and the arrival of the mower and gusty cold front. Â Quartering crosswinds 5-7. Â The goal was to see how ground handling was with the stock legs and 3'' foam wheels sans pants in the thick, damp grass. Â First of all, I was delighted with the ground clearance of appx. 4.5'' from the tip of the Falcon 20.5x14.5 to the floor. With a little up elevator & left stick finesse, this test was passed. Takeoff was uneventful, but I was on the rudder and elevator much more than with the Osiris or 2m Vanquish as she yawed into the wind. Â Lift off was somewhere between 50-60% throttle to the Advance (straight line, no throttle curve set; med start, med timing, 8 kHz on the Ice2 80HV). Â The maiden CG was about 275 which I found to be a bit nose heavy feeling in the landing pattern with a quick downwind roll for fun; she took a bit of nose up trim (will try 270 on the next flight). Â Also took some aileron trim so I need to look into that on a calmer day. Â The air was not so smooth so no aerobatics or trim passes: made one low pass to get the feel of the glide and one full stop landing which was very pleasant. What can I say after five and a half minutes? Â A very different feeling ride for me, floaty even. Â Once I got the elevator trimmed, we found her airspeed groove at half throttle straight and level. Tech notes: I toned-down the elevator and rudder S.Bus servo speeds to 0.19 in honor of the designer's notes. Â Since I am flying with the factory incidence, I want to get the feel of the Nuance before making changes. We'll see as time goes by if any gains or losses on this point.
Does that mean I get a ride on it at Augieland this weekend?[;)]

Typically around 75ish and then I set my bottom based on my idle starting at the center of the throttle trim. 50ish? That has been typical for whatever Castle controller I have used with my 9303.

Been flying with the 22x12 on grass for a couple months without a problem using the stock gear.
Chad, based on my observation of Bobs plane this weekend, I would have the gear plate lowered at least a good half inch in the fuse for better prop clearance, as well as, a better landing gearplate design.

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
ORIGINAL: RC Accessory I agree with the statements about batches of the kit. I am using a Dualsky 6360-12 which is nearly 2 oz heavier than the Torque motor. My tailwheel is the F3A Unlimited tail wheel assembly which is epoxied in place. Even if I used 10 grams of epoxy, that far back would result in needing more nose weight. My 1700 LiFe rx pack is as far forward as it can be and I still moved my batteries forward to get the CG about 180mm. I plan on pulling the 1700 for a 850 LiFe, saving 1.5 oz and maybe the Falcon v2 prop which would save 2 oz over the APC 20x13E prop, but then the batteries would have to be moved even more forward to compensate. I do not know if the weight issue is caused by the tailwheel installation or the new rudder/fin configuration, but none the less I would be very tail heavy if I had used a lighter weight motor. Any weight savings I can incorporate or change equipment would be up front so I am not happy about the situation. If I have to change the motor for example, I would be forced to use heavier batteries.
Lookin at your picture, I would move the flight pack forward and put the Rx pack behind the flight pack. I can't tell if you have clearance for the flight pack further forward from the picture. As far as Rx battery goes, knock on wood, I have been using one 730ma 2 cell lipo with a voltage regulator for a good 5 years now. You can even use a dual regulator with a pair of 350ma 2 cell lipos if you wanted

RE: No Fly area - St. Charles, Illinois Fri- Sat?
ORIGINAL: mups53
ORIGINAL: corch Contest Photos? Â Standings? Â Tell me what I missed!!
We had a small group 16 fliers. I think a number of things contributed to the small gathering. Most of it had to do with regulars who couldn't be there this year. Guys not ready, weather playing into lack of practice. Other commitments and all the usual situations that can have a contest scrambling for numbers.  The ones who showed up had a good time. The quality of flying was surprisingly very good. AC Glenn and Bill Ahrens put on a clinic in FAI. Brenner beat me out for Masters by 2 points and I don't feel bad about it at all. Evan Krause beat everyone in Advanced and Brandon showed his level of improvement over a very tough field in intermediate to take all 6 rounds.  We only had 1 in Sportsman Mark from Cedar Rapids. So all in all it was fun. Mike
TUrnout appears to be down everywhere. In the 3 contests I attended we had 14,20,and 20. Lack of practice is a lame excuse. Where else can you get better practice than at a contest. I just hope people realize that small turnouts can lead to fewer and fewer contests.

RE: Proposed 2013/2014 Sequences
ORIGINAL: rcpattern Matt, I know you are a fairly proficient Advanced pilot, and maybe that is part of the reason it seems boring. I agree that the patterns now are somewhat easier than they should be, but its not the sequence committee's fault entirely. The rules by which they have to play by are rather stringent, and they probably need looked at. The planes, and equipment continue to improve, but the restrictions on the sequences have not changed. I know those guys work their butts off, as I have been a past member of the sequence committee. It is not easy. There are things in both new sequences that I think could be improved, but that will always be the case. Overall, I don't think these new sequences are an issue. I think the bigger issue is that we need a significant change to the Sportsman pattern. Actually, not a change, but go back to a mid 1990's sequence and leave it alone forever. The idea of Sportsman is to introduce new people to pattern, and it should be done in a way that doesn't require a high end pattern plane. I see no reason to ever change the Sporstman pattern. If you can't be competitive with a .40 size sport plane, then there is something wrong with the pattern. Arch
I would like to suggest one other possibility. Leave Sportsman as a regular class in itself and introduce a new class called "Clubman" or "Novice" or whatever you might like it to be. I would make it a completely non turnaround pattern. This way any local guy could pick up any old plane with little to no practice and fly it and have fun. Make it say 10 maneuvers. We could use the last pre-turnaround Novice pattern or something pretty similar.

RE: R/C Aerobatics Contest Board Initital Vote
ORIGINAL: Scott Smith
ORIGINAL: jgg215 ...they will not even consider a proposal that increases the weight for AMA classes. I would like to see a justification of that position.
That seems like a reasonable request, speaking for District 1: - Masters would be mostly impacted (since the development classes already have an increase) and 68.6% of the Master’s pilots that took the NSRCA survey voted against an increase. - Not a single person from my district contacted me with a desire to have the limit raised; not this cycle or the prior. - Popular vote aside, while raising the weight limit may decrease cost for some in the short term, I believe it will increase costs in the long term. - I do not believe raising the weight limit will have an effect on participation at the local or national level. - What action would we take in the future when people are butting up against the higher limit? Raise it yet again? - The last rule cycle contained a weight increase for the development classes, give it time. - I feel it is important to maintain the integrity of the sport which is bounded only by 2m and 5kg. Scott
Scott, I for one would like to see the current weight limits we have in Sportsman through Advanced being extended to Masters, as well. I assume some sort of cross proposal would cover that?
