RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ORIGINAL: SrTelemaster150
ORIGINAL: Old Fart
ORIGINAL: SrTelemaster150
ORIGINAL: Hobbsy Castor is not the bad thing people make it out to be.
That's your opinion. My experience has shown me otherwise. Would you run an oil in your car engine that left sticky, gummy, varnish deposits? SAITO DOES NOT RECOMMEND CASTOR! In the USA they say that castor oil is acceptable in small percentages, but no where do they RECOMMEND castor oil. In Australia they specifically state NOT TO USE CASTOR OIL AT ALL. I guess they are trying to apease those here in the states that insist on using castor oil even though it has nothing to offer when the engine is tuned properly. I have had no corrosion problems even in my engines that were stored for 14 years after exclusive use of all synthetic Cool Power glow fuel.
Dan you are being amongst other things,impolite/unreasonable/and downright rude to boot. There's no justification for it so just quit will ya?
I'm just stating facts & my thoughts on why Horizon saw fit to chnge the original lube spec's such as was in my 1997 FA150 Manual. Just because my opinions/facts don't support yours doesn't make me rude, unreasonable or impolite.
If all caps is shouting then read what you've capitalized. You've certainly expressed your opinion every time the subject comes up. For what it is worth here is my experiences - I've been running 3% castor for 5 years in my 4 strokes with zero problems. John

AK-Models used to offer a kit of an enlarged Somethin Extra. From what I recall it flew quite well. Always wanted to buy the kit, but as usual put it off for too long. :) John
ORIGINAL: essyou35 Buillding todays chinese arfs is just as involved, it not more difficult, then building a kit. .......... Mike, Well I'm going to subscribe to the July issue and see. I've a Kindle Fire that me son bought me for Father's Day. Pretty neat kid. I'm like most everyone not liking SPAM but I've always liked to try new things. The title kind of put me off as I like to build more than fly. John

And I have had just the opposite experience and much prefer NiCads. I've since switched over to LiFe packs. Either will mwork just fine for your trainer. Make sure you cycle these at .1C a couple of times before you try to quick charge them. John

Anytime. Course it is really easy to use. I bought it because I wanted the extra charge capability and liked it's construction. It uses capacitive switches and is very rugged. John

It will have the latest software installed. Go to the Hitec site and grab the coupon for a free receiver. That coupon will allow you to purchase an additional receiver at half price and the HPP-22 is half price also. John EDIT-> link http://www.hitecrcd.com/files/2012LTO.pdf

RE: It's been a long, fun adventure...
Trent, Here is wishing you the very best. I have also cut way down on flying and riding. We purchased a motor home last year and have been having a ball camping. This year I plan on trailering the bike. There is a campground a few miles from my old club so no doubt I'll do some flying too. Trent you are completely correct a hobby has to be enjoyable - otherwise why do it. Best wishes for your future. John

RE: Has anybody tried the Zippy Flightmax LiFePo4 batteries from HK?
ORIGINAL: Mikecam I've been using the 1100 mAh packs for 2 years now in 2 planes and zero problems. I also have the 2500 mAh packs and the 4 latest ones I received 2 weeks ago had a futaba/JR plug on them already. Mine discharged to 2600 mAh. If your discharging them at 1 amp and to only 6 volts then your leaving fuel in the packs. They are different then A123 so using A123 graphs will not equal these. They bounce back a lot more then my A123 packs. If I take my A123 packs down to 6 volts at 1 amp they will not bounce back at all. The Lifepo4 HK packs need to go down to 5.2 volts at 1 amp and then they will bounce back up after the discharge is over to above 6 volts. They don't have the discharge capacity of A123's but then again they don't need to. My 50cc yak uses about 1.5 amps on average doing extreme 3D so double up the HK battery's for redundancy in 50cc stuff and smaller and enjoy the savings. [:)]
I would rather err on the side of caution when it comes to my receiver packs. I did not think they would discharge the same as A123 but that was the only graph I could find. If I use the same discharge procedure and get repeatable results that's good enough for me - lacking any manufactures information. Thanks for your input. I'm still on the fence when it comes to these but the cost savings were unreal. I will hook the PC up and graph the discharge to 5.2 volts and see what it looks like. If it doesn't fall off a cliff like A123s do then I could modify my voltwatches for a warning @ 5.5 volts or so. John

RE: Has anybody tried the Zippy Flightmax LiFePo4 batteries from HK?
Okay I've finally finished cycling all my packs. I've purchased 5 of these from the USA warehouse. Zippy Flightmax 2500 mAh 6.6 v 5C LiFe receiver packs. Only one pack was balanced as received. I use a Hitec X2 charger, http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/chargers-setup-equipment/x2.html I charged these at 1 amp for the first couple of charge cycles and 2 amp for the 3rd and final cycle. All discharges were 1 amp discharged to 6.0 volts. My reasoning was a graph of A123 LiFe cells show an extremely fast discharge curve. The default discharge on the Hitec X2 is 4.0 volts. I believe discharging this low can adversly affect the pack life. Basically all 5 packs balance within .1 volt. All are between 1759 and 1840 mAh. I've left them alone for a week and all have held their charge. Its up to you to decide if a pack that's rated 2500 mAh and tests at 1800 mAh is worthwhile. At $8.93 each I'll keep track of their capacity. For now they suit my needs. John

RE: RCGF Engines
ORIGINAL: sailr I bought a 20cc rcgf and it's been around the shop a while. I installed it on an airplane and somehow the muffler has disappeared!! Dang! The airplane is ready to go except for a muffler. The cost for replacement mufflers for the rcgf engines is a bit outragious! $30 for a 20cc single stack muffler and $68 for a pitts style? Anybody know where I can find a better deal than that? Anybody that upgraded to the pitts want to sell the stock muffler? HELP! Grounded in Florida!
Have you looked at the price of a Macs muffler for a 2 stroke lately. $30 is a very good deal. John
ORIGINAL: michel gravelle Hi Right ,................................ I have , in my hand , a new , just purchased , '' optima 6 lite '' . And there is absolutly nothing on the box , nor in the box or on the receiver , to indicate that there is what version for the receiver . Wasn,t there suppose to be a sticker on the outside of the box ? Thats , '' OK '' . ( but it would of been nice to know ) Is there a test , that we can do to know what version we have on hand ? Michel
I'm curious also Michel. From what I've read without the data port or label there is nothing that tells you the version number. I'll be interested to hear what those with more knowledge say. John

RE: Walkera Radio Question
I've owned a Futaba 6XAS, Hitec Laser 4 and 6, Polk Hobby Tracker II and have just purchased a Hitec Aurora 9 so I haven't always stayed with the name brands. I have however always stayed with something that got good reviews. I think that is really important. I purchased the Futaba as my first transmitter cause that was the brand the guys at the field were flying so it was easy for them to buddy box it. That is also an important consideration if you are just learning to fly. John

RE: Walkera Radio Question
The purpose of having individual receivers is so you can put them in anything. Transmitters control receivers that have individual channels for servos. How you hook the servos up determine what it's controlling. Now some of the more inexpensive have limits for range. I've never heard of the brand, but personally I would not be controlling my gas models with something so inexpensive. If I have over a $1,000 in an airframe I'm not trusting $80 to control it. John
