Yeah sounds to me like it may need another shim/washer set behind the planataries,,, Note also though that the Hypers gears are loud new even, sounds like you really have something going on though thats not just the normal gear noiseWhat Wgt fluid are you filling them with? AS Cummings Driver said have you taken the front one apart too?? Maybe try moving the rear one to the front and the front on eto the rear and see if that helps any. Good luck!
ORIGINAL: crazy nick Nice truck! I'm sure it will be great on the track.
I hear they are great on the track, a dirt track anyhow,, I ran mine on a track that was layed out with PVC tubing on hard solid concrete and has wood ramps, some bigh ones at that 8'Lx3-4'H along with some smaller ramps as whoops and i just kept breaking A-Arms, i finally gave up with it and sold it, especially after i sent ofna pics of an A-Arm that obviously had an air pocket in it or it didnt cure right, totally an obvious defect and Ofna was like well ok we will give you one new set of a-arms,, man they are 9 bucks i can buy them i didnt need ofna to send me some but i did have to fight with them just to get that,,, I was trying to explain that there was obviously a problem there and that i would send the a-arm in for them to check out. What i wanted was some stronger a-arms that would fit, i was hoping something from another ofna RC would work but apparently none do. Anyhow it is a great truck just not for a basher like me, it was way to heavy. The guy i sold it to also found the rear diff housing was cracked too but i blame that for the pancake landings on hard concrete from 6-7ft high jumps lol. The TT is a great race truck no doubt however im a basher and as you see above my LHS track is pretty makeshift but still a blast.

RE: Who actually races their Redcat at the local track?
ORIGINAL: RockinEagle Anyone race a Caldera SC truck?
Well i will be soon, i have the Caldera 10E but im going to put SC tires and body on it and try racing it at my LHS, our track though is just PCV tubing layed out with wooden ramps on a concrete parking lot but its a pretty cool and tight track set up most the guys run SC10 2wd and 4wd and do very well, im not that good a driver im more of a basher so i dont know how i will fair but i ran my caldera there this weekend and it rocked BUt im having a heat issue with my motor and Redcat cant seem to help via email or phone thier only option is to send it to them,,, so this is why im thinking going with the smaller SC tires should help and if i have to i may have to hunt down a 10 or 11T pinion and see if that helps any. I clocked my Caldera on a 2s 5000Mah 25-30C battery and maxed out at 34.5 Mph on flat blacktoip and 27.4mph on short dry dead grass which is not bad however id rather slow it down and not overheat in the first 5 mins of running lol. Im now experimenting with some of the esc setting (manually ughh) maybe that will help but so far no luck yet. I will watch this post and post back when i do race and let ya know how she goes.

I"m killing the drag brake tonight it will be at 0% tomorrow, ive heard this can affect your your truck flys when you jump it,, so im going to test it out. as well as see if that lowers temps any.

RE: Changing gear ratios in Caldera 10e?
Well Dad's if you can touch the motor and keep your thumb on it for more than 10 seconds then your temps are fine and yes with the short course wheels and tires it will run cooler and have a touch more low end tourque. Mine now over heats in the first couple mins of running it so whatever it is is getting worse or has to do with my recent esc change. i manually reprogramed the ESC today (not 100% sure i did it right but i think i did) and i cranked up the punch control and brought down the timing in hopes of it running a lil cooler and getting a touch more tourque on take off, it made a little difference but not much and its still over heating big time. Im afraid to shut off the Thermal protection as i dont want the motor to fry but i cant think of much else to do to lower my motor temps. I guess i will try and make it a short course as well, supposed to pick up some Slash wheels and tires that are on a beater roller im getting in the next few days they fit it perfect ive already tested them.. How do you guys have your ESC's set (if you know) maybe im missing something. Mine is: 1. Running mode = Fwd/Rev w/brake 2. Drag brake= Stock setting 10% 3. Low Voltage Shut off = 3.4V per cell 4. Punch=L8 << L8 because i could not get L9 set by doing it manually 5. Max Brake Force=75% 6. Max Reverse=75% 7. Inital Brake Force=20% 8. Neutral Range= Normal 9% 9. Timing=7.50º 10. Overheat Protection= On

RE: Changing gear ratios in Caldera 10e?
Dads, arent you running to hot with the 15 and stock motor and esc? Mine runs was hot right now how it is completley stock: Heres a copy and paste of my explanation to someone i thought was going to help me with it but i did not hear back from them: as for my caldera 10E its completly stock never did anything to it sept drive it, jump it like 10-15ft in the air and break bodys like crazy LOL. Redcat sent me the HexFly replacement servo that lasted all of 5 mins (junk servo-used a used one i had instead) the only other thing ive done with it is take it apart for cleaning and to verify that every part moves and spins freely,, the only thing wrong with the truck other than the motor getting way to hot is I cant friggin break it!! Ha!! Redcat said it maybe the esc but its forsure not that,,, it works fine,, the truck has no bottom end tourque and shutters a couple times then from there its just all out crazy fun, if i stop it in front of a 3 inch high curb and try flooring it to get up the curb it will just shutter and cog like it is way over geared but again the gears are still stock never replaced them so i dont know why its doing this but i'm guessing its the motor itself.Let me know your thoughts please. Im considering going down in tire size and putting some short course wheels and tires and a short course PRO LINE body that wont easily shatter lol. Im hoping the lower tire height will get me back a lil bit of bottom end. I was going to try and go down on the pinion gear but the LHS's lowest tooth pinion gear is a 13T. And pede yes the gears are 32P i verified that today . Im wondering if any of the himoto cars/trucks or Exceed will work, ive not looked at what sizes they have.

RE: Caldera 10 e
no i cant tell by the pic, you can check the red cat site (or maybe its on thier youtube) there is a video on how to change the spur gear which also includes setting the gear mesh,,, looks like your beyond being able to set a decent mesh now, i would order a new spur and pinion NOW then for the time being id say just make your gear mesh tight as possible, just make sure its not to tight that it will cause binding, On other RC's ive slightly stripped the spur gear and been able to continue using it by tightening the mesh real tight, but id also run it easily and not whomp on it to hard or try wheelies or anything lol. Umm running in sand at the beach ehhhhhh maybe not such a good idea its possible you got sand in there and that is what wroe your gears down.

RE: redcat may be a mistake
ORIGINAL: Dads like rc too I don't know, sometimes things happen that you have to relate to purchase price. These cars are way cheaper in price than a lot of stuff out there. Go buy a E Revo for $670 and more than likely the ESC won't give you any problems. I have a Caldera 10E and also stripped out the front steering knuckles several times. This was the only weak spot I've had on the truck. After replacing them with the factory replacements I eventually swapped them over to aluminum. Since doing that last August the only thing that has broken since has been the front bumper post and a stripped spur gear. Considering you can buy one of these trucks on ebay for around $180 shipped, I'll keep on trucking with my Redcats.
Thats great to hear!! I noticed you watching the forum Dads i was wondering if you would chime in,,, Also very good to know that the aluminum parts fix the problem. Ive always been leary of adding aluminum parts for fear that something else may break. I agree that spending 670 buck + on an erevo is a bit absured,, i used to love traxxas back in the day but now a days i think they are over rated and way over priced,,, Ill stick with the odd balls like red cat, himoto, ofna etc,,,

RE: redcat may be a mistake
ok so that would be the C-hub that broke,, i drove mine 2-3 packs without there even being a screw in there and i couldnt break it lol. Good thing about "metal" as you call it, actually aluminum,, is they wont break, the bad part is they may bend and bending them back just weakens them and since that area will no longer give flex the stress now gets sent out to other parts, i think for what you paid for aluminum parts you could have bought a crap load of the plastic ones and just replace them as needed but i dont think that area usually breaks, what happend with yours sounds like it just happend to get hit just right that it broke, normally i think thats uncommon. If you have the bad servo just call them now they will send you a new one b4 yours breaks (or thats what i was told anyhow) then again see my post on the HexFly servo they send as a replacement,,, its junk!!! same crap as the original. So you maybe better off to spend 30 bucks and get you a decent Hi Tech 645Mg servo or spend a lil more and get a good savox servo. As i said earlier about the ESC you may just have to make room to see the led's and take your time trying to program it, if you were able to program some of it you should be able to program everything else. Good luck with it hang in there you wont regret it im sure if you just get a few of the kinks worked out.

RE: Redcat and Houston hobby shops
My understanding is HiSpeed toys does manufacture most of the rc's like redcat, himoto, exceed, henlion and probably others, maybe even traxxas but i doubt it. I like you prefer to run with the underdog IF its not so bad that i cant fix it easily or earliy rig or adapt parts from something else to fit. I find it highly unlikley Traxxas would tell any LHS they cannot sell certain other product lines, that just sounds like something some kid made up to make traxxas sound "kewel" LOL Stevo, most of the hobby shops ive ever dealt with no matter where you go are like that, how some of them stay in buisness i will never know,,, I have a LHS that stands out way above the rest and ive even become friends with the owner, hes helped me and taught me things as i think i have him as well. Kepp looking around you may find somehere better than the others, take some time and be cool (not stupid) with the folks that work there, agree with them, maybe lie and says the redcat is not yours that your helping a friend out and bash redcat right along with them and laugh about it etc,,, Check the redcat site for a local dealer and go there maybe that will even be a better choice. This isnt rocket science this is RC Tech which manily takes common sense to figure out. Somehow Redcats gotten a bad rap, id also heard all the bad and i stayed away because of that but on a spur of the moment trade of my Duratrax evader for an almost new redcat caldera 10e ive now seen the light and ive been seriously impressed with the product,,, sure ive had tons of minor issues but with common sence and slight experience ive gone a few weeks now with no broken parts and some pretty rough serious bashing to this thing, so far everything thats broken or bent ive been able to bend back or get working again and not had continous problems with again,, well yet anyhow lol. You always hear the bad, you rarley hear the good and in this hobby that seems to go a long way. I try to share the good when i can even the bad too but if no one says they love and enjoy thier redcat and everyone else posts how crappy they are then what do most think?? they think like i did that they are just junk and they stay away. Well you rev have 9 more redcats than me so you probably know alot more about them than me and i only have electric, no nitros for me, so i cant say anything about them but i did see on thier site they have a life time engine replacement program,, if you ask me that blows away anything traxxas offers,,, though ive heard traxxas support is better than redcat, it may very well be, who wants to send thier truck in somewhere and be without it? i dont think to many do i know i dont,, well i will end on that note,, some say buyer beware,,, people have signs that say beware of dog too and they have a poodle
ORIGINAL: jaquo2 I just recieved my caldera 10e first thing i did was try to program esc no lights would work will not do anything. Turned car on everything works but still need to program to work properly... first run hit a curb at half speed broke front knuckle. Redcat said to send in esc so they could look at it good thing i bought this to look at it why the hell would i want to use it!!!! So needless to say just got my new batteries i ordered and now my car sits broke as hell. REGRET made in china thats what i get for being cheap.... This truck is (suppose) to be made for bashing the only place i will jump this is in the sand!!!! and it will probably break there to!!!
Wow i find that hard to believe but what temprature is it outside where your at??? when you say you broke a knuckle what exactly doe sthat mean? which knuckle? ive jumped mine 8-10ft in the air came down sideways landed on the right front and nothing broke, well except the cheap a s s body. The screws at the bottom of the c-hubs are notorious for falling out/coming loose is it possible thats whats happened to yours? Can you post a pic of the damage?? as long as your enjoying looking at it may as well show off the damage right lol. Im throughly impressed wiith my caldera however it seems to run to hot like WAY HOT!!, i also emailed redcat in hope they would send me a new motor (of course they wont but hey it was worth a shot) and i could send the "Hot " one back,, They told me the same as you send us the truck,, heck id rather run it till the motor does go then just swap in a different motor. Mine ran ok without programing the esc, i manually programmed mine with no problems but its for sure not easy,,,, infact i need to re- do it again. Is your RX/TX calibrated? if so also make sure b4 you try to manually program the esc that your trim is set so your throttle is neutral, i found mine to be touchy if i dont have the trim just right even though the truck doesnt move you can hear that its outting power to the motor. The LED's are also hard to see being that they are on the side of the ESC you may need to remove your reciever box cover to be able to see what the lights are doing. Good luck with it and please post a decent pics of whats broke if you can it may actually be an easy no parts needed fix.

RE: *Official* Caldera 10E Video, Picture And Discussion Thread
Hey guys!! I just traded my Duratrax Evader this past weekend for a Redcat Caldera 10E and well im just going to say that most of the bad things ive heard about Redcat really arent so bad. So far i have severly beat mine, i tried to break it, and i have but nothing i wasnt able to fix myself. As for the steering issues i havent seen anyone mention the turnbuckle ends being to tight, on mine the steering was slow and sloppy when i got it, infact thats why the guy traded me, he couldnt figure out why it wouldnt steer and him being a beginner i guess he just gave up. So i tightened up my servo saver, un hooked the servo arm from the servo bell crank and checked to see how freely the steering was and i tell you what it took a good amount of force to push and pull it, i backed off all of the screws in the steering joints and everything freed up quite well and it turns very good now. Mine is as most "Compltley Stock" as far as i know it still has the original pinion and spur gear but the motor is running WAY to hot i mean cooking hot, bad enuff it burned my thumb and i now have a blister on it lol. So i pulled the pinion off and checked for any stress in the drivetrain and all seems well it rolls smoothly and the spur spins easily, with my other thumb lol. Just wonder what others have done if anything to keep things cool? I did add on a castle blower motor cooler but it does not fit snugly to the motor so i'm going to have to come up with something else. I may try and get a few pics posted later, i moved my RX and switch to the top rear center brace and positioned the ESC in the ceter of the radio/esc tray, it just seemed more feesable way of doing things but im still changing things up.
