RE: SM F-15
Tommy, I guess I have what you have, but probably not what you want! I have both SM F15 wings/ flaps/ ailerons and both vertical tails/ rudders remaining undamaged after salvaging from my mishap. Also the Tams bifurcated pipe and 4 kevlar Jettech fuel cells are undamaged. The fuselage was a complete right-off. This was a Gen II (pre ARF plus) kit with aluminum wing spars. Would be interested in selling any/all if you or anyone else is interested. Paul

RE: Skymaster plus 1:5.5 BAE Hawk
Wichet How did you get the front cockpit installed. I just took my cockpit kit out of the box and tried a very quick install, but I couldn't work out how to get it past the canopy frame without cutting anything. Thanks Paul

RE: HFM12-MX+R6014FS ON MX-22
lookilook, If I remember correctly, you just position the throttle where you want the failsafe position to be, and hold the Rx button in for a few seconds. I use the 2 position switch above the right stick as an engine start/ stop switch, mixing it with the throttle to effectively provide a throttle trim. I never use the (digital) throttle trim itself. lookilook I have the same setup, and the only selectable failsafe is on the throttle, everything else holds last valid command. Paul

RE: Hawker Hunter kit
[quote] The best of the best is this side of the pond, the simply divine Hunter.[/quote] I'll second that. The most under-rated jet that the modelling world has ignored for years. Maybe I sense that the next year or two that this may change. It deserves equally as much coverage as the F-86 Sabre has gotten. One in each major scale would be great.

RE: Hawker Hunter kit
Do you have any photos of the plug/ what you have done so far? From what I remember, the GT Models Huinter was 'cartoon scale' at best. Would be interested if it is an accurate rendition, but I'm watching anxiously for the Rimpax/ Mick Reeves composite one. Now, for a 1/7th scale version, the molds and tooling for the Westbury Hunter (1/7th scale) are for sale by Andy Sheldon (Jetline Models) in the UK. I was tempted, but it was too much just to make one model. If you have a manufacturer who's interested, it sounded a steal. To me, that was an ideal size, and accurate too. Paul

RE: DeWalt A123 Packs at Amazon
Mike, I have always determined capacity from what I can TAKE OUT of a cell, rather than what I can PUT IN to a cell. The difference is the losses within the cell, and it is possible that a bad cell can collapse early even after having a supposedly full charge. I'm getting between 1950-2000 OUT of the cells, and 2200-2300 back in. Paul

RE: DeWalt A123 Packs at Amazon
I bought one of these DeWalt packs before Christmas, and have made 4 2cell packs from them, with balance tabs. I now have 6 A123 2cell packs, inlcuding 2 packs I bought from Sin City Jets a few years ago. All these packs provide a repeatable 2000mAh discharge, and all the individual cells from the DeWalt pack are within ~70mAh of each other, when the cells are individually cycled. These A123 cells are advertised at 2200mAh, but none of the 12 cells I own seem to get above 2000. They all charge to 2200-2300. Settings are 2V per cell cut-off and 1A discharge. I use Bantam BC-6, BC-902 and a Schultze 6-330 chargers. They all give essentially the same result. Anyone else have similar experiences? Paul

RE: FEJ Where We're Goin' Tomorrow
I have a set of detailed Hawker Hunter drawings and reference photographs. The drawings are scaled exactly to 1/6 scale, and willl print the correct size. I can send you them if you would like. Some good reference books are: Warpaint Series No. 8 - Hawker Hunter by Alan W. Hall - ISSN 1363-0369 Mark 1 Guide - Hawker Hunter F Mk 6/6A - ISBN 80-86637-02-6 Wings of Fame - Volume 20 - ISBN 1-86184-053-5 For plastic models , the best model available is the 1/32 scale Revell Hunter FGA9, and the similar F6. The FGA9 kit seems slightly harder to find, but this link has one. This would be my preferred version. [link]https://www.ihobbycentral.com/revell-hawker-hunter-fga9-pr-30941938.html[/link] This is for the F6 [link]http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/rvl/rvl04727.htm?source=froogle[/link] A really good web site for details and photographs [link]http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/hunter/index.php[/link] Regards Paul

Jets Over Benbrook
A couple of pictures of one of our aircraft flying over Benbrook Lake last week. F-35B Lighning II, tail number BF-1 If you look closely, you can make out the Fort Worth Thunderbirds RC Clubs current and new flying sites on the edge of the lake. Enjoy. Paul

RE: Skymaster Service
I'm probably going to get flamed for this but here goes. I tried about 3-4 months ago to get a replacement set of gear struts for my SM F-15 through BVM. I got a quote from Patty within the week, and I placed my order. Nothing for over a month, so I called and got the 'they (SM) have the order' story. Called again a few weeks later and the same, not my problem type of answer. Getting frustrated, I checked with Todd at Dreamworks, and within the day got confirmation of the required Airpower part numbers, and I placed my order with Todd the next day. Had them within the week. I called BVM to cancel my order after waiting over 2 months, and I got the '..so where do you think you're getting them from if not through us' question. That says it all for me. 2 years ago I bought the (smaller) SM ARF Plus Hawk through Yellow Aircraft (Shaun) and he and SM were a pleasure to deal with. I got what I ordered and everything arrived undamaged, cockpit detail seperately a little later. I've just started the build on it. Paul

RE: F15 & P-80 Take Off Distance??????
1000ft - wow!!!!! I flew mine (SM, version 2 with flaps/ ailerons, pre-ARF Pro) for the first time a few months ago from our club strip - 450ft of concrete. While it took about 400ft to get airborne, I'd do it again. Mine weighs about 26lb dry, probably close to 30lb wet, with a P80 for power. In flight it wasn't spritely, and I felt it needed nearly full power, but it flew well. It's a draggy airframe so more thrust doesn't result it too much more speed, just better verticals. Wave-offs were perfectly acceptable. Mine looped ok. In flight I kept saying to myself - I need more power (who doesn't[:D]) I bent the main gear on landing and scraped/ creased a tip. I've just got it back together with new Airpower struts, so it should be better next time. Paul

Todd gets my vote. Awsome service. I couldn't find the right Airpwer struts for my SM F-15. Todd gets an answer from Airpower overnight. I place the order next morning, and it's shipped the same day. Can't beat that. Paul

Airpower Struts for SM F-15
I need new struts for my SM F-15 (not ARF Pro), and I've had so much difficulty getting them through BVM that I thought I'd order a set from Airpower via Dreamworks. I can't quite tell which set is suitable for the main gear. I've found the nose gear ones, 401B Nose Hydraulic Oleo Legs - L=157mm / 110°, but can't decide on the mains. I think the axles are at 90deg to the struts, but the retracts are mounted so that they are canted out at about 5deg, and they are 130mm from the axle to the step that fits into the retract trunion. The wheels are 83mm in diameter. Only the 401 series supports 83mm diameter wheels Maybe they are either 401B Main Hydraulic Oleo Legs - L=132mm / 105° 401B Hydraulic Oleo Legs For Turbine Jet - Main (90deg but no specs so I don't know the length of these) The 105deg ones would have the wheels canted over about 10deg (top out) which I don't think will be a problem but may look strange. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Paul

RE: Wanted: Mick Reeves Hawker Hunter kit
I had Sierra Precision custom make a drop in replacement for the Unitract retracts for my 1/7 scale Westbury Hunter. They have the correct angles and were extremely strong. I'm sure they would fit in the larger model without problems. Paul Edit - to add pictures comparing Unitracts to Sierra replacement units.

RE: HT-Modellbau dealers
Back in 2006, I received a quote from HT Modellbau regarding their 1/6.8 scale Hunter. It was EUR2200 just for the basic (fully composite) airframe. Landing gear and accessories were extra. From the pictures on their web site it looked like it uses Unitracts retracts, which from my Westbury Hunter were very poor for the size of the model. I eventually got Sierra to make some drop in replacements which I am extremely impressed with. If Ali can get up to date prices and a dealership, I'm interested. Paul

RE: Preferred Size for Hawker Hunter ARF
Gordon, I made it where you can select more than one option...!!! Personally, I'd get the 1/6 scale for my 54 Supersport, plus a 1/7.5 scale for my MW44. How about trying to replicate the 22 Hunter Loop from Farnborough 1958. Paul
