RE: Best all around 3d prop for chinn yak..one with saito 82 other o.s. 55 ax
For 3-d almost everyone uses pich of 3.75 to 6. For 40 size planes with 2-strokes I use 3.75 or 4 pitch. For Saito 91 and 100 , I use 6. I want a diameter that allows the engine to rev to about 12,000 for 2-strokes, 10,000 for Saitos, 11,000 for YS 63. Your OS 55 will turn a 13x4 or 12x6 about 13.000 for 9 lbs thrust. The 82 will turn a 14x6 about 9500 for about 8 lbs thust. It will turn a 13x6 about 11000 rpm for 9 lbs thrust. For 3d you want lots ofstatic thrust and fast spool up from a light engine. Saito seems to spool up faster . I prefer 4 strokes for 3d.

RE: Right way to fix wing slop issues
I built a Skeeter 30 from free plans. The fuse cutout was about 1/16" too big for the wind to fit snugly, so I added a layer of 1/16" sheeting 1" wide to the wing and finish sanded to fit. I use wood glue to attach the added sheeting to the wing - it is easier to sand than thin CA. It worked fine for many flights.

RE: Hinges
I like ca hinges. I use Radio South hinges (Tower has them), never had one fail other than due to a crash. I have them on Mojo 40, Mojo 60, Mojo 60moass. I installed power point hinges on a Mojo 65 and had them pull out on one aileron. I probably didn't install the right.

RE: Recommend 2nd 3D balsa plane
I built my original Skeeter 30 from free plans available online. I flew it for more than a year and had lots of crashes because it is a very quick plane and I am a slow guy. I still have it. I built a 2nd from plans. Then I got a Skeeter 36 kit from Quicker. It is easier to fly for me, flies great, does everything. About the time my 1st Skeeter 30 was getting beat up I got the Sniper. It is very rugged and does everything I want. I have been flying it mostly, about 3 days a week and it is still in fine shape. The 1st Skeeter 30 is still flyable. The wing and tail surfaces have never been damaged. The fuse has been broken many times. I have flown the Sniper a little more than the Skeeters because it seems unbreakable. It hovers very well. I think the Skeeter 36 flies a little better but not a lot. As for which is easiest to fly 3s. I would say Sniper, then Skeeter 36 followed by Skeeter 30. But Skeeter 30's cost the price of the wood and the 36 kit is pretty cheap too.

RE: 3d
I thought you were kidding in the 3d forum. Apparently you are serious so here is a straight answer. A Rossi 40 likes to scream - 16,000, 18,000 rpm. 3d is about flying at 1/3 throttle with enough reserve to pull the plane straight up, ideally accelerating. Thrust to weight of 1.5 is common. Lots demand more like 2. I fly 3d a lot. My favorite plane are 5.5 to 6 lb Mojo 60's. I fly them with 4 stroke (Saito 100) engines. I sometimes fly 4 lb 3d planes with 2-stroke engines - .46 to .50. I like 4" pitch on the smaller planes. 12" to 13" diameter. 60 size are a lot easier to fly. A Rossi 40 on a 3d plane is like a Porshe engine on a John Deere tractor. You could make it go but why? It is totally wrong for 3d as I know it. I like Porshe and I like John Deere, but not on the same machine.

My favorite 3d electrics are the Hyperion Sniper and the Skeeter 36. Both will do it all and I can't seem to kill them. I run Hacker 20-20 , TP 1320 battery.

RE: UCANDO 3D 46.. What Four Stroke for it?
I flew my UCD 46 with a YS 63 and a OS91 FS. I liked the 91 a little better. Both have enough power. My UCD 46 weighs about 6 lbs. I don't call that a light-weight. It weighs about the same as a Mojo 60 and has the same wing area. The Mojo 60 flies better for me, especially the Moass version.

RE: U Can Do 46 prop?
I have a UCD 46 and have flown it with a YS 63 and a Saito 91. Mine weighs about 6 lbs . Your 55 will produce about 7 lbs of static thrust which will not do much 3d on a 6 lb plane. My Saito produces 10 lbs static thrust which is not bad for 1a 6 lb plane. The UCD 46 weighs 6 lbs, has 1000 sq inches wing area. That is identical to the Mojo 60 which is a fine 3d plane when powered by a Saito 100. Yet the box says it is a 46 size plane. A 40 size 3d plane should weigh 4 lbs RTF, dry. A 13x4 will be about the best for the 55.

RE: I lost a rocker cover from my Saito 91
I was fooled by the list of alpas next to the part did not include K. But since several of you found it in areas devoted to 91 parts I am confident you have the right part. I didn't see next to the engine on the Horizon site they have a link to "parts". Now I ought to be able to find parts for Saitos the next time I lose or break something. Thanks everyone for the big help.

RE: vertical center of gravity
A low vertical cg will make the plane relatively stable in roll and not tend to fly as you said yours did. I suspect the problem is something else. Like underpowered, flying near stall climbing after takeoff, bank to turn, stall while banked and fall . You may have too much weight, too little power, fly too slowly, etc. The fore and aft cg may be too far aft. Did it act pitch sensitive? More detail of the plane would help .

I lost a rocker cover from my Saito 91
I adjusted the lash on my Saito 91, put the covers back on, went flying without (I guess) tightening the screws. After 2 flights parts started dropping off. I lost 1 cover and 3 screws.I looked in Horizon and other sites listed by google, I found lots of Saito covers but none for my engine. Saito parts have an "alpha code" next to the description that tells what part fits what engine. The code for the 91 is K for the plain model and EE for the Golden Knight. I think. I could not find a rocker cover with the K code. There are about 60 alpha codes listed for Saito engines. How do you locate engine parts needed for repairs? -

RE: Prop selection
I fly a Mojo 60 with a Saito 91, 14x6 or 15x4w. The 91 is plenty for a 5 1/2 lb plane for me. I have a Mojo 40 with an OS 50, 12.25x3.75 prop. I have a Saito 100 on a Razoryak, 15x6 prop. And a Saito 125 on a 8 lb Mojo 65, 16x6 prop. I have never felt the need for more engine on any of these planes with the Saitos. The Mojo 40 with the OS 50 feels a little weak sometimes. My next project will be a Mojo 60 with the Moass mod.

I am flying a Skeeter 36 with a Hacker A20. It is the best 3d electric I have flown. Its a profile and a kit, so 90% of you won't like it. I also have an AirfoilZ Yak, Copperhead Extra, 3d Foamy Sudukoi(sp?), and a Skeeter 30.

RE: Prop Selection
The forums are listed under "Airplanes", then "Helis", then "Boats" , then "Engines". low engines is in the Engines area. The nipple on the bottom of the case is probably a vent to allow excess oil a way to get out of the crankcase. That is what it is on Saitos.

RE: Dual Rates / Mixing / Throws
Most 3d fliers set controls to get in the range of 45 degrees throw at "high rates". They then set low rates at something like 60% to get an easily controllabe plane. They take off and land on low rates, switch to high when well off the ground. You fly more and more on high rates wheile learning the plane. If you scare yourself you can switch back to low rates while catching your breath. After a few flights if it feels under control you may find yourself landing on high rates. It is a good idea to have adequate aileron throws on low rates to be able to roll the plane . I had a small crash when I was flying very slowly on low rates, needed to roll then plane back level and didn't have enough AL throw to do it.

RE: P Factor and engine offset
I don't know about pattern planes but nearly all of the TRUE 3d planes I have seen or heard of have right thrust. You can hover fine without it, you just have to hold some right rudder in while you do it. That is just harder to do. I hear Chip Hyde uses no right thrust but programs right rudder to throttle mixing. Paul Swanson recommends 3 degrees right on Mojos of all sizes. UCD's come

RE: ucando46 AILERON NEUTRAL POSITION???
I have a UCD 46 and use a computer radio with the ailerons set up to move together controlled by a slider. I can move the slider up and raise the trailing edge of both ailerons from 0 to 1 cm or lower the slider to drop the trailing edge up tp 1 cm. I have all of my 3d planes set up to adjust the TE similarly. I did this to allow me to raise the TE a few degrees hoping to reduce wing rock and stabilize harrier flight. The results are subtle, not a lot happens when the TE is raised a little. The most noticable effect is a decrease in lift. Currently I do as Tony says, set it so it looks centered and fly that way.

RE: Tired of funtana x50, want knew plane
So you have an SK91 2str, OS70 4str, Mag90 4str, and OS46 2str. You have a 50x that needs a 3 oz exhaust extension on the SK to clear the cowl. You want a new plane that will fly 3d well with one of your engines. The SK will produce about 11 lbs static thrust. The Mag 90 - 10 lbs. OS 70 - 8 lbs. OS 46 - 6 lbs on a great day. For good 3d most use engine thrust more than 1.5 times plane weight. I fly a Mojo 60 with a Saito 91. Works great. For 3d you want an engine that runs great at half throttle with a fast, reliable transition to full power when needed. I have never seen an SK90 but if it really will swing a 16x4w and crank out 10,000 rpm, and run fine at half throttle and has good transition, its only problem is it is way heavy for 50 size planes. My Saito 91 weighs 19 ozs and works on the Mojo 60 with its 1000 sq in wing. For your SK I would look for a plane with a 1000 to 1300 sq inch wing. The SK would fly the Mojo 60 but you have 5 or 6 ozs more engine weight than you need which degrades 3d performance. Your Mag 90 is lighter than the SK and will handle a 6 lb or less 3d plane. I would use the OS 70 on a 4 to 5 lb plane. I have had 4 lb planes with OS 46 on it. I now have YS 63 and OS 50 on those type planes. I have one 8 lb plane, a Mojo 65, and it is powered by a Saito 125. The 125 is ok for me but lots of hot dog fliers say it is underpowered for that plane. I fly with a guy that has a Funtana 50x with Saito 82. So far he is not doing 3d and likes the setup. No snaps to date. You have been flying that 50x for quite a while without busting it up. I am impressed.

RE: O.S. 70 Surpass II Vs. ?? Spread the knowledge.
I have a UCD 46 with an OS 914stroke on it. THe plane weighs 6 lbs and the engine produces 10 lbs of thrust on 15% fuel. I had a YS 63 on the UCD for a while and it had enough thrust for 3d but not a lot of extra. Not many 3d fliers would be happy with thrust = 1.1 x plane wt. 1.5 or more is about right. I read a lot about how much folks love their UCD's. I have flown mine for more than 2 years. I also fly a Mojo 40, mojo 60 and Mojo 65. For me they do everything better and easier than the UCD. BTW I mounted my engine upright on the UCD to get around the problems associated with the tank being too high relative to the inverted engine. Most people mount them inverted and get by more or less.

RE: Saito FA91S i love it :D
Secure your plane so it can't get away while you tune the engine. Warm it up , use a tach to read rpm at your present needle setting. Then turn the high speed needle in 2 clicks, count to 5 slowly, read rpm. If it increased, turn in 2 more clicks , count to 5, read rpm. Repeat until rpm decreases, go back to max rpm setting. Verify rpm, then open the needle enough to reduce full throttle rpm about 200 rpm from max. This takes a few minutes and will be better than using someone else's setting. I have a Saito 91 on the plane I fly the most, Mojo 60, and seldom need to tweak the needles. I like it.
