RE: HK 500 CMT Build Thread - Beginner to Heli's
I have one of these cmt's, and a friend bought one as well. The belt is definitely too tight as it comes from the factory. My friend and I both made the same mistake of installing it as it comes, and we both fried the bearings in the tail almost immediately. I then shortened the boom on mine.I repaired the heli with new bearings and a new belt. Got the heli to fly and on it`s third flight, the gear that runs the belt to the tail sheered all its teeth off. Heli went in, and was completely totalled. My friend was flying his, and guess what, the same gear stripped and his heli went in. I don`t know whether we weakened the gear when we innitially built the heli with the tight belt, but it does sound like others are having the same problem with the gear stripping. Anyway just wanted to warn anyone about this issue. Don`t build it with a tight belt! Now I just orded the cmt with the torque tube. You can bet I`ll be checking all the loctite. You can belt I`ll be looking very closely at the gears that run in the TT, and I`ll replace them with Align stuff if I`m not confident in them. From what I saw with my first cmt, I was really happy with the quality overall, and I believe the heli can be a budget alternative to an Align 500. Just needs a bit of attention and perhaps a few minor parts swaps to get it sorted. Jag

My GP SE5a Maiden
Maidened my new little SE5a this morning. What a Sweet little flyer! Easy to fly, and land, and just looks great in the air. Nice scale like flight on the Turnigy 2213 outrunner and 10 x 6 prop. Does about a 10 minute flight on the 1500 3 cell. Definitely a keeper! Jag

you need to reverse the setting for the esc's channel in your transmitter. Read your instructions on "servo reversing" It's probably channel 3 that will need to be reversed if its a hitec/futaba radio. Hope this helps. J

Can a Jeti Advance 70-3P be used with 6 cells???
I have an Advance 70-3P. The instructions say it good for up to 3 cell lipo. I see the Opto version can run 6 cell lipo (which is what I want to do). Is it just a matter of cutting the red wire in the lead that plugs into the receiver, and then adding a seperate BEC. Would this enable me to run 6 cells on my Advance (non-opto) model? Jag

The two marks mentioned earlier in the post are where the cog is located. I balanced mine on those marks, and it was right on. The F-86 is a very sweet flier, and quite the crowd pleezer! You'll love it! Jag

RE: Park Flyer Spitfire - which is best?
The World Models Spit you mention is a great flier, and easy build, but not very scale. The Flying Styro kit is very scale, and does fly well. A bit trickier to build, and definitely not cheap for a foam plane. Alfa does not yet have a Spit. The new Parkzone Spit is getting good reviews, might be worth having a look at. Another one is the Hyperion model. Looks pretty nice to me. Jag

RE: GWS P-38 help
I meant the esc lead that plugs into the receiver on channel 3. Thought perhaps you might try plugging it in the other way around, if you can. I know sometimes there is a little tab on the plug that prevents that. I would definitely plug another receiver in if you have one handy to try and rule out that the gws one isn't defective or not. J

RE: electifly warbirds or GWS
If you are a fairly inexperienced pilot, I'd stay with the lower cost GWS kits at first. They fly great, and with a little extra effort in the build, can really look great as well. I'm sure though, as Flyer stated, the GP kits are nice as well. Jaggy

RE: world models Mustang EP battery under wing?!
Basil, I flew mine with a brushless setup immediately, and a 1500 3 cell lipo. Personally, I find the supplied brushed motors that come with these types of kits fairly marginal at best, with no reserve power on tap. I've tried with other kits in the past, but allways thrown in the towel, and gone brushless. It's just my opinion, but I'd drop the 400, and go straight to a brushless. This of course adds far more expense to the kit, but in my opinion, it's the only way to go. A 1000 Mah battery recommended? That'll be fairly short flight times with a 400 brushed. Again, junk it, save the weight, and get a lipo. Jag

RE: GWS P-51 Mustang Sturdiness
It is not a starter plane, rcdriv3r. Low wing planes really are to be avoided when you are first learning to fly. Take a look at GWS's "E-Starter", or perhaps their "Beaver" as your first choice. Try and hook up with someone who knows how to fly when you are first learning, their experience will go a long way to help you avoid disasters! J

RE: Show off your hangar
This one started out as the Slope Glider kit. They have no motors/props, and come unpainted in just white. You can get all the GWS models as slope gliders, and they are cheaper. If you are going to go brushless, and prefer your own paint jobs, Slope Glider is the only way to go. J

RE: Show off your hangar
Thanks Clovus, it's just a regular GWS spit. I did the maiden today on it, and wow, I was really impressed! This is my second one of these, and this one flies even nicer than my first one. It needed a bit of trimming out at first, and I had to lower the aileron reflex a bit. Second flight I had it dialed right in, and it really performed for me. It is quite fast, and very nimble. Easy to handlaunch, and seems to have a quite low stall speed, so you can slow it down quite nicely for the landings. I only flew it twice today, as it is really cold here, and my hands were a bit numb. I'm looking forward to future flights with it. Specs: Hextronic 25D-28 Outrunner APC 9X7.5 SF prop Hextronic 18 amp ESC Li Power Lite 1320 3 cell lipo GWS 6 channel receiver No Name servos Plane is full house controls A/E/R/T, AUW 15.5 oz's. The blades are 9070's. They look great, but are horribly inefficient. Expect to give up a lot of performance over what a standard two bladed prop would provide. J

RE: GWS Zero Pre-Construction
Hargravebl, great news on your maiden. Glad your bird flew great for you! Falcon, the plane will want to go almost straight up on you! Knowing that it's going to do that is a huge help. Dial in down trim on the elevator, and if handlaunching, use a lot less throttle on the launch, till you get used to it. If possible, add some downthrust to the motor as well. I'm surprised as I read through this thread that no one had mentioned earlier about the Zero's notorious wing incidence problems. Anyway, as I just built my brushless Zero without the wing incidence mod, I'm hoping to be able to just trim out the "climbing" issue. If not, I'll be doing the incidence mod on mine as well. Tomorrow I maiden mine, here's the specs on it: Hexatronic A22-10S outrunner Hexatronic 18 amp ESC APC 9X3.8 prop TP 1320 3 cell lipo GWS 6 channel receiver No Name servos Output is 175 watts at 16.8 amps. AUW is 375 grams/13.18 oz's....I'm thinking this thing is gonna be an absolute rocket!! I'll be maidening mine tomorrow if the weather allows it. J

Elevator linkage works just fine. The FSK P-38 kit that Hobby Lobby sells is a gorgeous kit, and I would love to have one, but all their twin models are priced out of my tax bracket. This GWS kit is going to fill a niche in the market. There's also another really nice P-38 kit you might want to check out if you haven't seen it already. http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/ Its a bit smaller than my 38, but more detailed.
