Can someone who has the Sierra Gear in your T-28 please send me a couple of good pics of the gear in the up position and the down position. I'm after deal on the interfacing of the gear doors, and how you linked the gear door to the strut. My issue is that gear door lays down, but I’m afraid the door will be "ripped" off as the mechanism is not keeping the end of the door pulled down. Am I missing something, or is that "the way it is." Thanks, James

RE: ESM T-28
I appeciate everyone's feedback - thank you very much. So per Tomas, they did shorten the gear on the new red and white T-28. I really don't know if the yellow one is affected, sorry. If you get the new ESM gear you will be ok, but if you opt for the Sierra Gear, you'll have some work to do see below. After thinking about this, I opted to keep my gear at their original length (for sake of prop clearance). The fix was very "simple." I simply moved the gear out 0.40 (10mm). The bracing for the gear extends beyound this point, but you have to extend the plywood pad for the landing gear another 0.400 inches. Of course, the new style gear doors are too short now, but they are too are simple to "fix." Please see the pic below. Best, James

RE: ESM T-28
Hello Col Winter: Thank you for the note. I totally agree. I'm trying to figure out what the best way to modify the plane, i.e, do I move the gear, or do I have Darrell modify the gear, or both. So far both Darrell and Tomas can't explain what changed. Hopefully the factory will resond to Tomas on the issue. With that said, could someone take the follwing measurement on your YELLOW T-28 (wing tip to edge of gear cutout) see picture. I measure approximatley 27.25" Thanks, James

RE: ESM T-28
If measure from the wing tip to the outside edge of aluminum mounting bracket on the Sierra gear, what do you get? I have a feeling they moved the gear inboard 0.875 inches. And, I agree. I've been looking through the immense history here and the wheel wells and bottom pan are different. I guess i won't be adding the outer gear doors (easily). Thanks, James

RE: ESM T-28
Hi: Darrell: Per our conversation today, please find some additional pictures.... Also, the over lap is about 0.35 inches; however, that's with the gear moved outboard an additional 0.400 inches off the mounting blocks. Thus it appears the gear is at least 3/4-1.00 too long. Thanks Darrell and please let me know what you find out after speaking with Thomas. The picture detail is as follows: Top Row Gear Door Reference v. strut length, Main Gear Interference, New mounting location for nose gear to avoid interference with fuse, New mounting location for nose gear to avoid interference with fuse different view. Bottom Row: Nose wheel interference with fuse w/original mounting blocks, Nose wheel interference with fuse w/original mounting blocks top view, Min overlap of wheel on wheel well, Just for fun! RE: ESM T-28
Hello All: Brand new to the topic. I'm just about ready to start my build (red and white). I have literally everything but the engine - sierra retracts, wheels/brakes/scale cockpit, fuel take, etc... I just need someone to tip over the edge on the motor. I'm going back and forth on whether to put the Saito 57T or the Evolution 777. I have the 777 in my corsair and I absolutely love it (did I say absolutely!); however, I really want the sound of a twin four stroke gas motor. The 57T will turn a 23x10 2 blade and probably a 22 x 10 3 blade. My question is this are these props too big for the plane? The 57T should have about or slightly less power than the dle 55, unfortunately its heavier. Does anyone want to opine? Also, where does the exhaust exit on the real plane the side of the cowl, or the bottom? Lastly, I always welcome any watch outs. Many thanks everyone. All the best, James

<![if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <![endif]><![if gte mso 9]> <![endif]><![if gte mso 10]><![endif]> Zeeb: One other thing you can do is relocate the attachment point for the tail wheel's air cylinder. I moved mine out about 1-2 hole diameters from the original hole. By doing this, you improve the mechanical advantage of the system, thus making the tail wheel deployment even more reliable. NOTE: If you move it too far, you can get into a situation where the tail wheel doesn't lock when the cylinder is extended, but this is easy to figure. Does this make sense? Also, I recommend checking the assembly of the tail wheel's shock. My shock adsorber came unscrewed during my 1st flight and I had to land without a tail wheel (no big deal on grass). 290 Loctite is self-wicking and is perfect for securing already assembled parts. RE: Rcexl V1.3 gas kill switch problem
Hello All: Question: I have the 1.3V. The switch is installed between the regulator and the ignition as instructed. The switch is going back to my receiver on my AUX 2 channel (SP9100 receiver, DX8 transmitter), which is setup -150 and 150% throw. My problem is that fail safe will not switch "OFF" (led off) regardless of AUX2. The LED is always "on" Also if I disconnect the inginition, the swich seems to work as designed, i.e., the LED goes "Off" and "ON" as commanded. But, as soon as I put the ignition back on, it stops cycling (LED always on). I'm using the DLE 55 ignition. Has anyone seen this problem, or am I missing something silly. Thanks, James

RE: Aero Works P-51?
The scale exhaust looked and “functioned” well on the plane that I saw it on, which was another Mustang with a DLE30 in it. The exhaust "functioned," but severely starved the engine of performance. So much so that my buddy by-passed it and added a traditional exhaust system. Take a look at the Aeroworks version. If it looks like the exhaust isn’t doing anything “unnatural,” it could be worth a try. The version I saw really choked the flow and made it take a very circuitous path to exit.

I simply put some heavy plastic tape on the outside of the each hole and then filled the hole with regular epoxy. I also added some glass chop in the center of the enlarged hole and then laid 3 layers of glass on the top of each repair. As it relates to the o-rings – I gave up on those. I’m using rubber back #6 washers (#4 would work too). They aren’t as noticeable as you might think.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Zeeb - Nice job. Looks very clean. The DA 60 is a nice looking motor, btw While you are messing with the cowling, I highly recommend reinforcing the mounting holes for the cowling. Could just be me, but the metal eyelets formed into the cowl all broke free and all the holes severely wallowed out. I’ve since repaired the holes with and reinforced the holes with a few layers of 1” sq glass and haven’t had anymore issues. . Also, regarding your Sierra Retracts… DO NOT forget to put the roll pins into the barrels. I didn’t know about this (they were omitted from my gear) and ate up about 4 props, before asking Sierra why the gear kept folding up on me. Just one of those hobby thingsïŠ. All the best, James Pool

I see its the same one I'm using, and it is sold/made by TamJets. The device works well. I too added a second tank. You need both pressure and air volume to have the retracts work consistently. In my opinion, the second tank helps keep the tail gear deploying reliably. Hope this is helpful. JKPIII

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Hi: Just wanted to add that at Costco they are selling a item called the PSX2 Power Station. It's a 12 battery system with the following features: Portable and compact. Air Compressor - no problem charging over 100 psi. 12VDC 15 amp power supply - (fuel pump, battery charger, etc...) 12 VDC 400 supply for jump starting - (I use it for my electric starters) And coolest feature is that it has an intergraged charger that keeps the batter at full charge. You just plug it in an forget it . For 65 dollars it's a steal! Happy Thanksgiving, James

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Thanks. I'll change out the valves too. And, yes one of my valve servos already failed, unfortunately I replaced it with the same servo. What's the definition of insanity....? The only other watch out I have is that my tail gear's shock came apart on my first flight. I recommend adding loctite 290 around the end of he cylinder. It's self wicking, so you don't have to take it apart. Much appreciated. JKP

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Hello Russ: I just installed my Sierra gear because my aeroworks gear failed on the second landing. It was a perfect landing, but i crab walked the plane turning it around and one of locking pins sheared - ugh. Anyway, did you find changing the valves was the key to maintaining pressure? I'm still losing pressure at a pretty good rate with the Sierra gear. On an side if anyone is interested in upgraded Aerowork's gear, please let me know. I've changed out the locking pins from a low grade (brittle) allloy to 303 SS. JKP
