Hi team, thought I'd pop in and say g'day. What's this I read about Grizz being a distributor?? Louis...I am like you and could not part with my r/c stuff, it would break my heart. If I did sell up I would regret it. Great to see you still very active firebird, well done mate and top job. Anyway I have to go for now and I will be catching up with you lot on here over the christmas period. Cheers guys. Jason.

[8D] Hi team, sure is great to see this "friendly" thread back to it's former glory. Some great posting going on again, we love it. [sm=thumbs_up.gif] Hey Louis, with the issue you have with the 27meg, do your usual checks of course, but one thing to keep in mind is the crystals. [sm=idea.gif] As you may recall a long time ago I had similar problems, and worked it out to be an internal circuit fault in the crystal, and I have heard of others experiencing the same problem as well. (only a very small amount of people) So if ya scratching your head wondering why you can't fix it, it's worth a try to swap the crystals and you could be surprised. Grizz, nice new r/c toy you got yourself to play with at work mate, lol I'm still trying to get me 5 minutes to reply to your email, expect something in a few days....I hope. I better be off for now and finish off the last of the seafood I caught last weekend [sm=tongue_smile.gif] Forget about the stock markets, let's just share our toys!!!

[sm=shades_smile.gif] Hi team, just passing through and noticed some lights on in the room. Thought I'd pop in and say g'day. Man I miss this stuff... I haven't had a good chance to run any nitro for a while, not since I mounted that Sirio I bought off mozz, and that was quite a long time ago. At times I had thought of having a sell off myself and just having one car for my spare time, but when I look at my collection I simply can't part with any of them at all!! Louis, sorry to here about the little accident with the poor kid. Thankfully she is ok. I have suffered a broken toe from a high speed impact a couple years ago, thankfully my shoe absorbed a lot of the impact. I have also seen other grown men drop to the ground in severe pain after being hit at slow speeds by these things. As careful as we are in ensuring the safety of others that are fascinated by our sports, accidents like this do unfortunately happen from time to time. So don't feel to guilty about it mate. Yes Grizz it sure was great to catch up with you on the beatiful gold coast. It is great to catch up and put real life figures to our names and have a chat face to face. Did I send you that email about the hail storm I got and busted my house up? I better send this off cos I just remembered that this site tends to time out quite a lot and everything gets lost. Will catch up soon team. The J

Yeap...Time for a bit of machining there mate, strip it all down so you can get a dremil or file or drill or something in to make the opening bigger, and the wheel on the starter should be able to reach it.

Brakes totally depend on your driving style. General bashing you would like the car to slow or stop without doing front flips or skidding the rears, but then it can make for great entertainment. All you can do is set them up and drive it, then change the bias a bit and see if you drive better or worse. There is no genuine technical set up for brake bias on these vehicles, as every track and condition is different. I simply set mine up so that all wheels brake evenly when rolling the car by hand, and drive to suit. pm for ya TTR

Clutch bells are about the most common and easiest way. If you want more top end speed and a slower take off use a bigger clutch bell, (more teeth).

[sm=omg_smile.gif] 2am finish!!! Wow oh Wow!! That is getting keen, [sm=bananahead.gif] , lol. Great report on the racing mate, and I suggest you write down in a little black book the differences in buggies that you raced with for future reference. Take note of the track and conditions, the set up of both buggies, and any technical differences between them, so next time you race there you will have some guidance as to what suits your driving to that track. Sorry to hear you hit the tyre, man there is something between car tyres and R/C cars that simply don't mix. I had a similar incident a while back with my Losi Aftershock M/T. (not racing, just bashing on the track). In the open paddock I was bouncing off tree's and flipping off rocks, and tripping over pot holes. On the track I was jumping crazy, crashing into other cars, etc and having a ball, then.............the slightest bump into a tyre busted my LHF lower arm. Sounds like the family is hooked with these machines, you are building quite a collection, we look forward in hearing your reports on each and every one of them. Keep up the good work TTR, [;)]

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
Basically there is one sign only for a failing servo, that is.......it stops working. A lot of people fit a return spring to the throttle, so that if the gears stip out the spring can try and pull the throttle back to the idle position. But if the servo siezes up in a open throttle position, you start hoping that you can catch your buggy, (if you still have steering there is no real drama) and you can then physically shut it down or remove the linkage and stop it from peak revving. A throttle servo failure is acceptable, but if the steering and throttle both go due to radio failure it is then time to panic. Just keep a spare servo in the box just in case one fails, and have a great day.

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
From what I can work out is the .21 ia as fast if not faster at times than a .28, and a .28 will drink more fuel due to the bigger bore size. The bigger engines tend to be more suited to the bigger toys like the monster trucks where they require more down low grunt. Don't get me wrong as buggies do fly with the 28's, but the 21's seem to be a lot 'crispier'. Why not race them both on the same day and do a comparison test in 2 different classes? As for mozzzy, well I think he fitted a cooling fan, that louis created, to the top of his buggy, and the thing took off like a helicopter, and we haven't seen them since!! [:D][:D] Oh well...at least we still have grizz [;)] Don't we grizz?....Grizzz?.....GRIZZ!!?......

I turned things off simply to satisfy my 9yo daughter and her learning of all this 'green' stuff at school, it was nice to save a bit of power though, good for the hip pocket and the emissions (cough cough) I saved in one hour might have saved that illusive 15kg snappers life that I am going to catch one day [sm=lol.gif] If we weren't meant to burn our fuel, we wouldn't have it......Burn it up team!!....

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
I'm back....Well the one hour used to turn off the lights, TV, PC, etc to save a tree or penguin or something is over for my part of the world. So now it is time to start burning things up again with electricity and nitro. I'm sure with all this stuff the power companies will increase the price of power to compensate it all... kbohm1, if you busted a plastic lower arm it has saved you heaps on damage to other parts, including the chassis. Something has to give somewhere, as grizz has mentioned. A few alloy bits here and there are a great improvement to the overall strength of the buggy but do be careful with what you use and in what conditions you will be running in. MP 7.5 is almost identical, minor difference to the front suspension, and a very minor difference to the rear, but all bits are interchangable, well in my country they are. Basically it is only the diffs and arm mounts that have a slight difference. Some people tend to change these bits only for the ease of replacement parts availabilty, depending on their location. Hyper 7 are cool, but my Bazooka/Redcat still kicked it's butt in a RTR form, [:D][:D] Same as the Rex X Pro, kicked them too, all for 1/3 of the initial purchase price. [:)] But that is going back in time, I don't know the comparisons these days, as we have all done different mods and RTR's are changing all the time. Now that I have just burnt up my one hour of power that I just saved, I will let you all get back into it and enjoy what we have.....NITRO POWER!!!! Hehehe[:D]

That's about all those things are worth. I am in the same boat, running basic radio gear, and man it is a pain when going for a bash. Although other people are running on different frequencies there seems to be something in the air that can make the signals very erratic. And then the obvious happens when some one on the same freqency "accidently" turns on their transmitter while you are having fun and it's time to go looking for your buggy. Save the money and put it into a decent spectrum system, it is worth it. But don't take my word for it, as I dont have one myself yet either. Grizz, nice shell, good to see a 'Le Manz' style shell instead of the typical street car design. They have the look of a purpose built race car and mean serious business. Make sure you show us the new shell with the flash paint job. You know that if you show us your pics it will go 2 seconds/lap faster!!??

Isn't the weather something frustrating here in Oz at the moment TTR? Frustrating for my nitro hobby anyway. Makes things difficult to keep a perfect engine tune. Oh well, we can only take the good with the bad I guess, the pleasures of hobbies. My other hobby is suffering aswell with the climate, and also the stupid new recreational fishing area closures in my area. On a holiday to NZ about 15 years ago I caught a 8kg and 7kg snapper as well as a few squires and other species, and those two snapper have been the highlight of my fishing life. If I ever caught a 14kg snapper it would be going straight to the taxidermist so I could have it permanently mounted on my wall and would have the biggest drool hanging off it, lol. I'd love to live in the colder waters for a while so I could experience them well sized snapper. The smaller squires are better eating apparently. But they all taste good to me. Anyway, back to nitro, and speaking of nitro...what brand fuel are you running there TTR? I have run massive mods HB444 in my buggy and truck and haven't looked back, it is wicked stuff!! It should be more easily available down your way than it is up here, requires a big tune change but it is great.

Hi team, I'm still around. Yes grizz, fishing is the main topic for me at the moment....Not doing much of it either though![&o] Went out last weekend down in the broadwater just up from Seaworld, we put 6 crabpots in and fished for 3 days. Took home 9 fish, 2 crabs and we came home with one crab pot less, possibly the float was hit by a boat prop...oh well thats fishing. Time to hit the lower Moreton Bay for a few small snapper as they are coming in now for a bit of love making. Been watching a few DVD's, one was showing some snapper fishing in your land grizz, it reminded me of one of my visits over there and makes me want to go back to hook into a few!! Just listening to my scanner at the moment...police are all over the place tracking down 3 people who held up a petrol station. Well enough of my dribble on life....by the way my mate set his servo saver, he said he had to back it right off....fully...and it is steering a lot better. I think he may have other problems as he said he changed his front camber and toe a great deal to. I advised him to be checking for bent parts, but, he is not one to listen, so I will leave it up to him to sort out himself. I will be back in the bash arena soon, I just need five minutes to pull out and clean up my one way bearing on the M/T so I can start the motor at least, and I also am going to buy a 12v dry cell battery with charger for about $30au for the starter box for my buggy so I can get it running my new (run in) Italian engine to full potential screaming noises.

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
Hi team.... TTR I have a basic answer although it is not a perfect fix for your shell. But with a crack in the plastic I would simply drill a small hole at the end of the crack, (the hole or circle will help prevent the crack from travelling further), then use something like masking tape, sticky tape, or even race tape, to cover the crack (on the inside of the shell of course) this will hold the shell together and still flex as per normal, but it wont let the seperated bits of plastic to work against each other....I hope you can make sense of that, [&:] That theory is also commonly used in glass, for example, a crack in a car windscreen can be prevented from spreading by simply drilling a hole at the end of the crack, (with the right tools of course). Worth a try, and it is a lot easier and lighter and more flexible than trying to fibre glass it. And as you mentioned there could be the risk of some form of reaction between chemicals and plastics when fibreglassing. Great topic on the glueing of tyres to rims, I was told to put a couple spots of glue around the beads of the tyres and then fit them, which was a bit tricky and not to reliable. But in reading the previous posts I have now realised I have been doing it all wrong. [:-] In future I will do as what I think is how I read it, fit the tyre to the rim, then run the glue around the outside of the beads!! [:D][:D] That will also make it a lot easier to remove the tyre and fit a new one when needed! Rocket science is so simple when I look at it, hehe... Grizz..I bet you felt like a goose on the day of your podium finish [:@] hehe......I guess you could compare that to hitting a hole in one on a par 4 and there was no one around to witness it [:D][:D][:D] Have fun team.... If ya didn't break it, ya didn't take it!!!
ORIGINAL: TTR_EB4 where is everyone, this thread is starting to die[:(] LETS KEEP IT GOING!!
Don't panic TTR, this thread is pretty darn strong and will take a lot to finish it, [;)]. A few months ago I was a bit worried as it was basically myself, Grizz, Mozzzy and Louis. And we all started to venture off to discover other forms of burning up power, but we are still here, well some of us, and it is a great pleasure to have more people join this now general thread to share their information. I do miss reading Louis' creative thoughts and suggestions, maybe he has gone into secret business selling his ideas off to us. [sm=idea.gif] I also miss Mozzzy's technical input, but I guess one can only say so much. Come back and say hi mozzz.... But it is so great that all the new people have a great mind and have a great technical ability, to be able to try different things and not be afraid of it. We 'old timers' are learning things from your experiences also. It is amazing how one's hearing gets tuned in to a particular sound. Today I heard the screams of a little nitro engine not far from my house, and I think by the sound of it, it was a .12 or maybe even a .15, 1/10 scale on roader, possibly a drifter, with the dreaded pull start. I bet that person has a few blisters between his fingers tonight. I will monitor this and see if I am right. I think industrial deafness is amazing, as someone can be yelling in my ear and I can not hear them, yet I can distinctly hear the scream of a nitro engine many miles away, whether it be a top fuel drag car, or a little nitro buggy. What do you guys acknowledge the most? A screaming Mrs telling you what to do, or a screaming engine doing what you tell it to do?

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
TTR, I just looked at that link for the servo, mate I reckon it would be worth getting one or two just to see what they are like. Who knows, you may never need to replace a servo again. For the price I think it would be worth a try. I personally have never really looked into the technicals of servos and always ask for advise in here when I need it, but I have noticed that sometimes a cheaper brand will be as good as a popular expensive brand. Take our buggy's for example, they are cheaper than many other makes and are still a very tuff competitive car. Mozzzy once stumbled across a cheap brand of servo and he bought a few of them expecting them to not last, and the first one he installed was still going as strong as ever the last I heard. But the prices were slowly increasing as word got around. So you never know, it could be a lemon that is as sweet as an orange. For the price I think it is worth giving at least one a shot, and secretly let us all know if it is a goody or not. Cheers guys, enjoy your toy.[sm=wink_smile.gif]

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
Grizz mate, here is one for you....my mate with his birthday buggy is having all sorts of dramas. After I passed on the info to him regarding the servo saver he has set that up ok, but today I noticed him having tuning issues and saw him playing with the MSN, I promptly told him 'no', (I did tell him when he got it not to touch this screw) so tonight I flicked back a thousand pages to your posting of the MSN setting and sent that info to him, which is great thanks heaps for the post grizz. Now in his chat today he said he also played with the wheel alignment, mentioning he set the camber to extreme negative to try and prevent roll overs when turning, although it is great for him to experiment I don't think he is doing any great justice. I noticed his toe angle was also "toe in" which in my terms would increase the chance of roll overs as the buggy would be tripping over the outside front wheel on turns. So I remembered another posting on alignments/suspension setups, or a link to the information. But me being a lazy Qld'er I thought I would ask for the link for the info before I started flicking back through the many pages of this site to get the info req'd. If you or nobody has this info handy don't worry about it, just means I will have to go searching. Oh yeah, I took the Losi Aftershock today aswell, she fired up straight away also, but as it idled for a little minute, it decided to stall, (understanderbly) then the one way bearing decided not to play anymore, so I couldn't start it again, oh well. Cheers team

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
WooooHoooooo...... HEY MOZZY!!!....and Grizz and um.......Louis?.. and to all of you of course! GUESS WHAT??? I had some action today!! Well for a short time, but hey... Mozzz, that little baby Sirio Kanai I purchased from you fired up first kick of the starter and ran as good as gold, smooth but snappy response but I have to do some throttle link adjustments to get it to near full throttle and find it's full potential. Didn't go to the track just had a paddock bash around in a park of thick grass and picked up a fair bit of long grass clippings, I am having a bit of trouble with my steering now aswell. The little plastic link thing that mounts onto the servo (horn?) is slipping and affecting my steering drastically, haven't had a look to see if it is just the screw not holding it tight, or if it is the plastic bit not fitting properly?..I will check it out oneday soon. That was not my only problem, the battery packs in my starter box are only 2x1800 7.2v packs, and they simply do not hold enough power to do more than a few starts. I was expecting that one anyway, but wanted to learn for myself how far these lower amperage batteries would go. I'm definately getting one of those '12v' dry cells to go into it, a mate has one and he uses it to run other things aswell and has now power drop at the end of the day. Speaking of mates.....actually I will sign off and send this post off and start another one. Just thought I would let ya's no I am back into the fumes. And Cheers Mozzzy [;)] she is a little ripper mate. [:D][:D][:D]
