RE: Rock Racer
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner jason, i dont see anything in that vid that would make me think that the rock racer can go faster than 15mph. it cant be to fast, other wise it wouldnt have enough torque to power over the rocks. unless, maybe its brushless. i wasnt saying that a stock WK would rock race like in the vid, i know i have one and it doesnt handle well stock. modded its pretty good, specially for the cost.
I just didn't understand the logic behind a comparison of this to a Wheely King. Your post kind of made it sound like Mike wasted his time building this one 'cause he could have just used a Wheely King instead 'cause -hey!- a Wheely King will do 15MPH on flat ground. ...and yes. Rock Racers can be fast and have tons of torque on the low end. [:D]

RE: Rock Racer
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner that was about as fast as a stock wheely king. you can probly put a 27t saturn motor in any rock crawler(tho you may have to change the stock pinion gear of the crawler) and have it drive like that one.
About as fast? Guess it depends on your definition of "about". A stock WK radars at 15mph...and it won't be as fast or as drivable on the rocks as that rock racer.

New Crawler mag on the way.
I've been wanting to do this for a while now and recently put things into motion to make it happen. Time for my own little mag. [:D] That's just a mock-up for the cover, but Crawler will feature RC and 1:1 event coverage, reviews, tech articles, how-to articles, and all the kick-ass things you'd expect in such a mag. Contributors will be names you all know from the crawling world, John Robert Holmes has signed on to do Electronics tech, and several other guys like Chino, Microgoat, DJ, Grizz, 1BadJeepBruiser, and several others have volunteered. (Thanks, guys!) Crawler will be on sale November 11th (later than I wanted, but it all has to do with scheduling of publisher, printer, distributor, etc..) and is currently slated as a "special issue" but will go quarterly if there's enough support. Judging by the overwhelming response we've had thus far, it seems as if it's destined to go quarterly.

RE: Eflite Quality? or just a fluke?
I've straightened warped main gears for the CP by heating them. Makes sense when you consider that these are injection molded parts that are allowed to finish cooling after being ejected from the mold.

RE: Blade 400 - Tips, tricks, and mods
After flying my B400 today I found a weak link. I've never crashed my B400, never struck the ground with it, etc...and I have over 20 flights on it. Today I was doing some hard 180 stuff, full positive pitch, yank back on the elevator, go into inverted hover, full negative pitch and a bunch of elevator to pitch it back upright. Basically a tic-toc, but I was going 9 to 3 instead of 10 to 2. Did this 4 or 5 times and saw a tail boom support hanging. [X(] Due to the position of the tail boom support (it was hanging straight down, perpendicular to the tail boom) I had to get it near the ground and slowly ease the heli backwards and lose altitude to land. If I had tried to move forward to land the tail boom support would have gotten into the tail rotor. I inspected the heli and noticed that BOTH tail boom supports had come loose at the gear...rods came out of the ball ends. I'll sand the old adhesive off the carbon rod and re-glue the rods into the ball ends, but figured I'd let you guys know of something to keep an eye on. Take the supports off and give'm a tug test and a bit of twist to see if they're snug. If not, break out the adhesive.

RE: Famous Wife Quotes and Comments
When I was considering getting into 3D helis my wife told me "You can fly it, you can fly anything." I have 3 helis, a paraplane and over 50 planes. That doesn't count the ones I've gotten rid of. I haven't found out if I can truely fly anything, but I'm getting there. [:D] I'm lucky to have a wife that doesn't mind my hobby.

One of the locals crashed his gasser. He said "I lost the ailerons" prior to crashing. I wasn't there, but if I had been I'd have told him "I see them. They're laying there with the rest of the plane." [:D] We're a sarcastic bunch.

RE: Blade 400 - Tips, tricks, and mods
Been flying the Blade 400 a good bit over the past few days. Installing the canopy is just as bothersome as the other E-flite helis, the CX and CP series. A trick I used on CX and CP was to use extra body mount grommets on the carbon rod...just slide the extra grommets against the sides of the airframe. This keeps the rod in place and centered. Additional flybar weights a the paddles will help those that find the B400 too touchy. I'll be upgrading my B400 to Align blades before I go 3D with it. Since my wife is in Afghanistan she asked for pics and a video. RE: Typhoon 2 by ParkZone
I flew the Typhoon 2 RTF this weekend and loved it. (been flying the OG Typhoon since it was released with stock battery, TX, and servos...still a fun plane...) My initial setup was with the pushrods in the outermost holes on the control horns and no SFGs. Noticed the hum of the digital servos, but that's to be expected. Left the antenna down while a buddy held the plane, performed a range check, and headed out. Plane flew well, seemed to be easier to hover than the original Typhoon with the heavy 9 cell Ni-MH pack. Without the SFGs it'd knife-edge just fine but needed a little elevator to keep it tracking straight. With the pushrods in the outer holes of the control horn I had no problem flying 3D on low rates. Flipping to high rates really made the Typhoon come alive. Fun, fun, fun. Brought her in and installed the SFGs, repeaked the pack, and headed out for testing with the SFGs installed. Tracked a bit better in normal flight, but seemed to be more sensitive to wind (cross-wind especially) with the SFGs. With the SFGs installed I noticed that I had to use much less rudder to maintain knife-edge - proof that they're working. Knife-edge loops are cake. The SFGs do work. So well, in fact, that the same rudder inputs that I'd used to KE without them would result in the beginnings of a KE loop. At that point I'd just back off the throttle and transition into a hover like I meant to do it. [:D] Roll rate is slightly decreased with the SFGs but nothing that most folks in the target market of this plane would honestly think twice about. Harriers seemed to be a bit better with the SFGs, both upright and inverted...just pay attention to the wind direction.

RE: 200MPH Super Bandit(pic)
Saying the pilot was moving doesn't make sense. The blur is omnidirectional and uniform. Here's a shot I took of Quique...notice the post in the foreground near his feet. It wasn't moving. It was about 2 ft. away...Quique and the plane were about 30 ft. away. Focus and depth of field are what cause this effect. You can achieve the same effect if you hold your finger up at arm's length and look at a distant object.
ORIGINAL: Gremlin Castle
ORIGINAL: adaptabl This is what happens when a Super Bandit goes in at 200MPH. Ouch. Low pass full power and JR radio goes into failsafe. Great Photo by Palmer Johnson.
Looks like someone did som photoshop work on this picture. Part of the guy's hat is out in front of the crash with pieces that are out of scale flying into his hat and neck. It is a spectacular photo non the less.
It's called focus and depth of field. Palmer is a great photographer. I had the pleasure to work with him at this past Top Gun. I can assure you that photo is real. Nothing is overlaid,no photoshop, the pilot is out of focus. If you understand photography you'll understand what you're seeing. I guess these photos are also fake 'cause the pilot is out of focus and parts of the plane are "over" the pilot? Not the case. The pilots in both my shots and Palmer's shot are both out of focus...Palmer's to a greater degree due to camera setting (f-stop)
