RE: Sepulveda Basin
I must say that I have heard many interesting points here. Just for the sake of clarification, The area you guys are refering to as the "Elestric Area" is in reality the Park Flyer area. A park flyer is defined as an airplane that is under 2 pounds or 60 Miles per hour. Most of the boys that fly in this area are clearly not park flyers. In result it becomes almost imposible to stay within the designated park flyer area with high performance electric planes. This will put them over the pits and the designated flight boxes at the runway. Having said that, I find that the majority of the guys are not problematic. Unfortunately it takes just a few people to make life difficult on the rest of us. Pleasae don't hesitate taking ownership of our filed and confront the people that brake the rules. You are in the majority. I also wanted to thank Bill Malvey for offering assistance if in case we were in trouble with the city. Jason Pakfar VF President Charter 152

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Hello Gentlemen Here is a copy of the RC eNews that was published for George Finch. Dear fellow Club Members, Flyers and Guests, This RC eNews is going to be more difficult than the usual "upcoming RC events" type. It is to announce the passing of a fellow club member, board member, and dear friend, Mr. George Finch, who passed away on Saturday, April 25th. Jason Pakfar announced this at the April Club meeting and his obituary appears on the front page of our web site. A Valley Flyers member for nearly four decades of his life, George was an outstanding and active club participant and past president for multiple terms. He contributed his time, talents, experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to our hobby and to our events. The family had their own small, private service. To allow our membership and friends to participate in paying last respects, The Valley Flyers will be holding a service this Sunday morning at the field for all who wish to attend. Sunday May 17: We have obtained an all-day event permit for this Sunday, May 17th at the Apollo 11 Flying Field. In a touching tribute to his life and contributions to the hobby and to all who knew him, we will hold a ceremony at the field in the morning. The facility will be closed to sport flying from 8AM until the end of the ceremony. Field is expected to re-open to sport flying no later than 1 PM. Beginning around 9 or 10AM, we'll have bagels, coffee, and soft drinks. Shortly thereafter, we will have speeches and perform several flying tributes. As one of George's last requests was that a portion of his ashes be scattered at the field, we will have a solo flight in which one of our board members will fly a specially equipped RC airplane to scatter George's ashes to honor his request. And, of course, we will have a Missing Man formation tribute. Several of George's close family members will be at the field to witness and participate in the touching events with good friends who share in missing him. So come join us if you can, this Sunday, at the Sepulveda Basin, to pay final respects to Mr. Finch. We could use a hand setting up equipment and refreshments between 8-10AM if you are available. Those of you who wish to say a few words of your own during the ceremony, please let us know so that we may allocate the proper time for you. You may also view or sign George's Online Guest Book at any time to offer up your own thoughts and feelings in words. Apollo 11 Field is located at 6201 Woodley Avenue between Victory and Burbank Blvds. For now, this RC eNews is sadly missing George.

I drove to Apollo XI today just to find out that it is impossible to get there due to the street closures. If there is no such web site where we can find this info, I would suggest either to start a new tread or to use this one for that purpose. Therefore, let me start by saying DO NOT GO TODAY TO APOLLO XI FIELD!!! Burbank Blvd is closed from Hayvenhurst Ave to Sepulveda Blvd and Woodley Ave is closed from Victory Blvd to Burbank Blvd. I don’t know for how long this street closure will last. I hope it will open for Sunday. Please, if someone knows the status of these streets on Sunday, February 08, let us know. [/quote] My Understanding is , It will be open on Sunday. JP
