Since you stole my name (jk) I figured I would chime in. Actually Chris Rc said it in another post and i was going to recomend it. Look into the Duratrax Raze ST from tower. Its on sale for $199. You can get a $15 credit and you can find some "coupon codes" to save even more. I just got a save $30 on $200. I'm thinking about getting one just because its a great truggy for the money ($165 or so if you get the codes emailed to you) . Pretty tough and worst comes to worst it has a warranty and what not.

RE: jato problems after break in....w/ pics
Traxxas may cover the tire just because they are usually good like that, they but they arent obliged to. I'm going to assume that when you hit the puddle you lost traction and over spun the tire with the least traction. When the tire is ballooning and spinning that fast it doesnt take much to destroy them. My one friend was always ballooning his tires real bad and I kept warning him, then one day kaboom rubber everywhere and he was upset that his tire exploded. I was shocked that the tire lasted as long as it did. Also I would be careful running around any type of water at all. SO many horror stories. Good luck with everything.

Make sure all 4 of your Motor Mount Screws are there and tight. Not the ones you see on the bottom of the chassis but the 4 silver ones that bolt the motor to the mount.

If your burning up the brakes then they are most likely rubbing. As for tuning the carb, I'm going to tell you what you dont want to hear - see the instruction manual (downloadable from traxxas.com) or traxxas.com for trouble shooting. I would recommend that you at least try to fix issues before "paying pros" this way you understand how things work. Good Luck !

RE: Looking at Jato 3.3
Despite what my tag is I have a few of everything, but every time I drive the Jato I have a huge smile on my face. Speed of course means breakage. Took me over a year to break the A arms and other then a few bent turnbuckles (driver error of course) its a lot tougher than what people (who dont have them) like to argue. I have ripped 30 foot backflip gaps at 20 or so feet in the air and had no issues (have some crappy video may try to share that). I used to be a big supporter of moabs or similar tires for offroad, but recently went back to pins and ribs and am really digging it. May even drop in a single speed and .12 and run it at the track just to be different. Its a great truck, but if you are new be prepared for breaks headaches and some downtime.

RE: jato 3.3 help please
Check you idle gap as per manual (avail on traxxas.com). If it idles when the wheels are off the ground but dies once they are touching its a good chance its going to be your clutch shoe or spring. Easy way to diagnose this is to see if the truck tries to move foward when you are starting it. If it does then thats your problem. Visit the traxxas website for help on that matter.

RE: Placed my order today! RC18T FT
I would say that if you plan on going brushless one day, then just take the plunge now. A little more now saves you more later. I have a Sidewinder 6800 and after about 6 months of serious usage just recently destroyed a dif. It was slipping after I did some work and didnt take the time to re-reassemble. Can they break ? Yes but IMO if they are adjusted right they will last awhile. The Duratrax battery you mentioned is decent for the price and gets some good runtime. Personally never used that particular Max Amps pack.

[/quote] The Castke 8000kv wont perform properly in the Vendetta and is overkill in the RC 18. A 6800 is plenty for the Rc18 and will work with no mods. You can use the Sidewinder or mamba max ESc (1/18 or 1/10) in the Vendetta with an ammo brushless motor of choice (it will require some minor dremal work and different pinions to fit on the shaft). Edit: as far as i know there is no way to put a standard servo with the 18's stock chassis. The servo on the 18 isnt the problem as much as the sloppy steering system. I think its built loose to aid in durability. $12 tightens it up nice and it takes some punishment. The detta steers much better out of the box and and at most needs a hold down for the servo (its held down by servo tape).

RE: Dura trax Vendetta or team Associated RC18
If you plan on leaving stock for awhile then rc18 all the way. From the box it gets great runtime and has decent electronics and can take a beating. Good for smooth carpet and well groomed dirt. No problems with BL in my experience. Negatives are steering slop and open spur gear. Vendetta is a good racing platform but has many more headaches associated with it from the box. Stable on rougher tracks because of larger wheels and weight. Electronics (esc, batt) are useless. Breaks a lot of hubs very easily. Some say its more BL friendly and I cant confirm or deny. If you want a nice racer and are willing to build either will do. But in that case I would go xray (parts support with that and the Vendetta may be low locally) FYI - Not sure if your into it but some of the larger 1/18th scale races/organizations consider the Vendetta a monster truck because of its larger stock wheels, also has a larger chassis. So it cant even be run in the same class.

And of course out of curiosity how come you haters never mention the video review I posted about the Jato and them exclaiming that in 12 years its the toughest truck they have ever tested? Since I broke so little and they broke nothing maybe we have super Jatos from the factory and they are impervious to beginner breakage, which by they way makes up the majority of jato issues. RE: rustler for girlfriend ?
Impalapolicepack- I assume you mean no thanks to me. Which is fine, but unlike Nate I provided useful info. Ds and I both said weigh your options and we wouldnt recommend that model at that price used. This is because that model is generally pretty inexpensive (not much more new than the used price you listed) I was in no way knocking your decision or your choice of models. Happy you made a purchase and sure you and the girlfriend will enjoy it. From experience I personally don't buy used unless its an insane deal. As in your case with the charger, there are so many variables and what ifs. If you did however weight DS's or my advice, you could have gotten the "ultimate combo" for $195 or so from tower. With that you could have gotten a $15 gift certificate to tower, plus an additional $15 off for spending over $150. If you spend over $200 you get $20 off (free money if you look at it that way). So basically would have gotten a brand new set-up for about the same price as the used (after you had to buy another charger). Of course you would have had to wait for shipping and all that stuff, and trust me I know when I want something I want it, but I always like knowing I was the first to get my hands on it. Regardless good luck and happy bashing!

RE: Jato Offroad anygood?
DWJR8 and Forbes - I see you are now hooked.. Haha the reason I originally posted all that was because of the few gentleman, and I use that term loosely, who have been posting all this non-sense. As was said, as a hobbyist we need to help other hobbyists, not spend all our waking moments spreading brand hate/envy. For some time these two have been posting their totally uneducated and biased nonsense in tons of threads. It annoyed me. If you have noticed they constantly change their arguments and now it stands as something like "well with tires and suspension tuning of course it can go offroad" (not an exact quote so dont get your panties in a bunch boys). Suspension tuning? Moving a shock position from one hole to another in its highly adjustable suspension makes it a bad off-road vehicle? Durability issues? Watch the unbiased video please. About a year ago when I first started looking for a new truck to bash, I saw a lot of the same Jato hate posts, even back then from other people. Luckily i was educated enough in the hobby to ignore them and was happy I got one to mess around with. If you are constantly breaking one then its obvious you need something slower, or just need to take it easy until you get used to it. 2 gallons later, and very few broken parts, despite many potentially devastating highspeed mishaps, I have Rpm front and rear Arms, but only the fronts are installed as I have yet to break the fronts. The truck is stock minus rims/tires, moabs for the nasty stuff - ribs and pins for smoother areas. Parts are cheap and readily available. I beat the crap out of it. It rips a 10 foot roost. jumps level off anything. Its amazing watching it tear across a rut ridden lot at 50+ sideways and the suspension soaks up everything like its on a cushion. Heres a picture of her - how could you hate that. I will also share a pic of my 18 just because. umm why not. Off that little jump the 18 is on I can hit at about 40 with the jato , (any faster and the chassis drags on the lip) and the jato will clear a 25 foot gap at about 12 feet high no problem and land plush on a small dirt decline at a lot i bash at. I can hit double backs NP and have had my share of Oh !%$@ moments. Lost a spring retainer once.... All that offroad with nothing but tires! I know i need pics or video

RE: Jato Offroad anygood?
Just for fun because I get a kick out of it. Nitro Nate please read my totally off topic posts before you post your shenanigans. Everything you posted till now (not only in this thread) bashes everything traxxas. It sucks off road. It has to powerful of an engine. etc etc. And also offroad is not a prepped race track. I think everyone thought that was obvious. Chris Rc. Same as above. Also Im not sure why you are comparing shock sizes. Kind of confused. You are aware that there 2.2 wheels that fit on the jato right, hence all those tires you listed.. ? The reason this thread is still going is because 1 - I get a kick out of it and I havent flamed a single other model in the process. 2- You silly boys continually post, to people requesting Info on a Jato or traxxas in general, about how if they want to go fast get a touring car, only go fast in a straight line, that it/traxxas is garbage. ETc Etc Fact of the matter is. Is the Jato a good off road basher? Out of the box with the condas. Not so much. Will it go offroad with them? Sure, and tbh if you are a beginner the stock tires can help keep you safe off-road. Spend a few dollars on tires and you will never want to bash another ST again. On any surface... Will you break something here and there? I hope so or else your not trying. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL3GcVT-Uy8]These guys seem to agree[/link]
