RE: Heng Long tanks using ball bearings?
Hey and Thanks I used .150 thick styrene for 8x14 bearing for the Tiger and .100 thick for 8x12 the rest of my company. I used 5 minute because plastic glue didn't work on HL plastic. On the HL gear boxes I used 5x11 mm bearings and a 7/16 drill bit, In the picture I used 5x10 mm and a 3/8 drill bit and had to rem it out with a grinding stone on a drill. Use .080 thick styrene 3/8 drillbit and rem it out. I have doubled the thickness of the HL gear box and a 3rd brass tube on the front. After cutting the gear box plate install the brass bushings to aline the 2 plates together. I've done this to 2 of me tanks and it makes a nice solid gear box. Cheers John What's better building the tanks and figuring out what to do, or playing with the tanks. Tam. Sherman Firefly, HL Tiger i, Pershing, Pzr iii - iV, Stug iii and Jadgpanther, My next tank and project will be the HL Panther

RE: Heng Long tanks using ball bearings?
How it goin here is some pics. for you. I used 1 5x11 bearing on the gear box and 8x14 bearing on the hull. The 5x11 bearing use a 7/16 drill bit and the bearing fits. I have this set up for all my tanks. Cheers John

RE: Where do I find these gearboxes?
Thanks Perry a nice design and I agree the HL gear boxes are poor. The problem I have with some of the metal gears, is the gears like to wobble up and down. The shaft is not centered on the gear. You don't get much for what you pay for. I wish I had the money to replace all my gear boxes I put 2 cross braces on all my gear boxes. One brace in the middle and other behind the motors. John

RE: Mato Customer Service
Sorry to hear about a problem with Mato. For me Mato has great service. I have purchaced 3 tanks with metal tracks and 1 tank had the tracks installed and the other 2 had tracks packed in the styrofoam package. Mato messed up on 2 order. I sent a nice e-mail with pics of the order and what is missing and they fixed the problem. I hope you get a good reply John

Hey what are you biulding ? A new tank design. I like the gear box in the rear as the tracks are pulled back moving the tank forward. I vote for the rear of the tank. So that's 1 front and 1 rear or make it front and rear just joking A tank with 4 spocket drive Jaws
