Hey Duane, I talked Jim Nikodem into driving with me and not flying down. That way he can fly both classes. Can't wait to get the season started - even if it's with SlowKan guys[;)]

Here is a video that I put together and sent to the racers that were there on Saturday. That was the day that the pictures were taken. I still have some to send out. The CD’s have music to go with them. Kevin, Lonnie had his name drawn for the engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0J5KSmJnlg

September 24th and 25th 424-426-EF1, Bloomington, IL
The WIPRO Bloomington race weekend is 4 weeks away - September 24th and 25th. We will be running 424, 426 and EF1 (if we have enough pre-registered and we should) both days. They are two one day races for all classes. After a great CAPS race in Muncie last weekend things have tightened up in the battle for the 424 Lead Goose Trophy and the inaugural 426 Cauldron Trophy. The trophies are based on your best six races in NMPRA District 5 and include the NATS. To check the standings and see the trophies go to q500424.com or from the NMPRA site under “events pick “supporting clubs then “Wisconsin Illinois Pylon Racing. Bernie Vanderliest keeps the site and the Dist. 5 points up to date. If you are planning on making it to Bloomington please sign up for the race on the WIPRO web site. Our club runs the food and drinks so we need an accurate head count. I would also like to get the matrix entered before Saturday so we can get a good early start. We do have room for tents and campers with limited electric. If you are wanting a Hotel that info is below and its about 5 minutes from the field. Ramada Limited & Suites 919 Maple Hill Road Bloomington, IL 61704 309-828-0900 Rooms are under SIRS RC or WIPRO and are $55 a night for 1 queen or 2 queen beds. I have rooms blocked off but, do not what for the last minute to make reservation.

WIPRO/CAPS 424-426 Bloomington, IL
Just a heads up for the 3rd District 5 race of the year. We had a great turnout last year at the SIRS “field of Dreams. We are flying 424 and 426. If you have room for your EF-1 bring it along and I will fit it in the mix also. The CAPS light system will be used. Please pre-register at www.q500424.com so we can get a jump on the matrix and plan for other needs. Here is the information for discounted rooms at one of the hotels that is just off the 74/55 exit on the way to the field. Ask for the SIRS rate or give them my name. Until Monday it might be listed under IL HOLSTEIN ASSOC, this will get fixed on Monday to SIRS. Camping with limited electricity is still available. Flight Box Lipo
I like to use a flight box with a control panel for my flight box on the line. Can I use a Lipo in place of a regular battery to run my igniter and starter from the control panel? If so what size do I need to get through a weekend of racing and how long should I expect it to last. Thanks, Jay

Duane, just finished two new planes. Will be doing some testing tomorrow. I am bringing Justin with me (the guy that flew the Dodger at our last race). My hart rate is already picking up! You guys put on a great race with lots of pilots and everyone makes you feel welcome. Its like flying at my local club.

Duane, sounds like you will have at least 2 WIPRO pilots to chase after. I hope all the Kansas guys are coming, that way there will be some competition. I always feel bad when the hosting club members get waxed.[;)] OH and make sure you bring that hammer, you will need to knock a few more RPM's into those TT 40's again....

RE: Race calender
The WIPRO site is being updated as the District 5 races are being finalized. Some of the flyers have been sent to the NMPRA site so they should be up soon. Chop is correct and we should all try to use the NMPRA calendar. When I started four years ago I thought racing was dead until I found one and got in the loop. The NMPRA site is great and we should help ourselves by using it to help promote the sport along with our own organization or club sites. http://www.q500424.com/

RE: Tangerine?
I have been racing 424 for the last two years also. For me the new class is a welcomed addition. I guess I just got lucky. I can fly my 424 airframes and just buy one new engine to move up. Not having any Nelson or Jett 428 engines. I understand that things will happen faster as I move up as they should. Last year I flew one Q40 race, two 426 races and several 242 races. For me I felt that the speed sensation between classes is about right. This is about growth and maintaining a sport right? So is that not what has happened? An AMA member stepped up and submitted a proposal to add another class of racing – 426. This does not cancel the 428 rules. If an area of the country has an abundance of 428 caliber equipment and interest then keep flying that class and introducing people to it that way. In other areas the best way to have a large turnout may be with 426 – short or long course. The choice is now available with rules for both events. I think this is a great time in our slice of the RC world. We even have an electric class brewing that is supported with at least one ARF and maybe more on the way. The new quickee class may help us maintain but to grow we each need to find those one or two guys that find pylon racing exciting (it is not for everyone) and support them with information and guidance. For what its worth, ya its great to be on the start line and zinging around the poles but the rest of the day and evenings spent at a pylon event are just as fun! Heck I enjoy calling just as much as flying.

AMA 424 race in Bloomington, IL - September 18th and 19th

APC Props and 15% fuel will be provided. Please pre-register on www.q500424.com so the SIRS Club can plan for food and things. RE: What prop for TT 46 in a Proudbird Q40?
The poles are around 500' apart and I did 114 laps last year flying plenty long. This year I am going to walk down and stand at one pylon so I can fly one tight and get some timing on the far pylon. I will try the 8x8. I will fly this weekend and time the flight. I really only want to make one stop but the only way to get 15oz of fuel in the plane would be to use the fuse for the tank[:)]. Thanks for the input.

What prop for TT 46 in a Proudbird Q40?
I need some help choosing a prop for a Thundertiger 46. It is in a Proudbird Q40. I am running 15% nitro, backed out the idle screw, K&B 1L plug and a Jett muffler. With the stock muffler I cut down a 9X7 sport prop to about 81/4X7 were it turned just over 16,000 and it liked it. I just ran it with the Jett muffler and the same prop and got 17,400 were a good pinch on the fuel line gave me a nice rise in RPM's (needled well). The plane is for a club event were we fly three or four planes at a time for 20 minutes around two polls with one mandatory pit stop. I flew it last year with the stock muffler and a Jett 10oz tank and won with only one stop. I need to step it up this year. I think the prop I have would be fine but if anyone has some suggestions I would appreciate them. I would like to keep the engine friendly and not on the ragged edge as this is a speed/endurance event. Also, is 17,400 to much for a sport APC prop?

RE: AMA 424 race in Bloomington, IL
There were lots of Vipers, maybe half. Then a mix of Snakers, Hurrikanes, Seekers and personal designs. The Viper wing seams to be a popular choice though.

RE: AMA 424 race in Bloomington, IL
After taking an inventory of the race props I didn’t have enough. So with a call to APC they are sending more of their incredibly fast props for the race. Less than a week before the race and APC was on it – it’s great to have a company support us like they do! I have the football moms from a small town coming to work the course.[:D] The BBQ pork is ready to go for Saturday evening. Anyone have any special requests for side dishes for Saturday night? Oh, AJ we peel the backing off our covering and use a covering iron to adhere the covering to the balsa. Whatever you are doing must be working. We are excited to see just how fast that Viper is – while we are safely off the course waiting for you to finish the heat.[;)]

RE: AMA 424 race in Bloomington, IL
OK we are still getting some registration in and we are at 18 pilots for the race. Another new addition is that we will be renting the LED system from the MOKAN group. Truth be told this is the main reason that the MOKAN guys were invited and to “fluff the field with some easy competition. Some new towels have been ordered specifically for the MOKAN guys that are a little more fitting.

RE: AMA 424 race in Bloomington, IL
Well we have 15 and counting for the June 26th and 27th race. I was able to get a block of 10 rooms with one queen bed for $50 a night. There is a baseball tournament in town the same weekend so the two queen rooms are first come first served at $60. It is less then twn minutes from the field, just ask for the SIRS rate. The rates are good tell 6-16 and you must cancel by 6-23. The Missouri gang is coming in full force. By the way I did see the "MOKAN rules and WIPRO drools" comment on a certain registration that was sent. I would hate to embarrass this person so he will remain anonymous. This will be short course racing. I will have the course up by 11:00 on Friday so feel free to come practice. Ramada Limited Inn & Suites 919 Maple Hill Road Bloomington, IL 61705 309-828-0900
