Wire length from controllers
I'm building a 4 motor plane. I know now that the wires from the battery to the controller must be short. Can I use 28" to 30" wires from the controller to the outboard motors? Inboard motors will have 18" to 19" wires. If not, what are my alternatives? Thanks

RE: Need Electric help desperately (Constellation)
First of all, I want to thank all of you for your help so far. It has helped me to design better where each component must go. My concerns are still weight and balance. To keep from adding unnessesary nose weight, I am putting the batteries in the fuse just behind the cockpit and the speed controllers will be just aft of them. I will be making the wires from the batteries to the speed controllers short (10" or less). Because this plane is a 4 motor with a 7 foot wing span, the outboard motors are way out there. Can I make the wires that go to those motors 33" to 36" from the controller to the motors and be OK? Thanks again.

RE: Need Electric help desperately (Constellation)
Forgot to mention that I will be using only 2 battery packs which means I will be running 2 motors for each pack. That means I will need High discharge rate batteries, correct?

RE: Need Electric help desperately (Constellation)
I think I did it right. Used a calculator and with a 4S (14.8V), @ 20Amps, it would be 296 watts or 1184 watts total With a 3S (11.1V), 30Amps, it would be 333 watts or 1332 watts total. Did I figure that correctly?

RE: Need Electric help desperately (Constellation)
Jeff Spec of the motors; Can use 3S or 4S Lipos RPM/Volt 1200 Max Efficiency 20-30Amps (76%) Current Capacity 42Amps/60s (Don't know what the 60s mean)

Need Electric help desperately (Constellation)
To you electric guru's I have designed and built (90% there) a 1/18th scale Lockheed Constellation. (Attached photo). I am planning on using (4) AXI 2820-10 motors swinging 9-3/4" german 3-blabe scale props. Problems; Weight and balance, I must put the batteries as far forward to keep the plane as light as possible. If I do this, I can keep the plane at 12-1/2 pounds flying weight. Is it OK that the longest wires to the speed controller (outboard motors) are 30" long? The speed controllers will be 2" behind the motors for all four. What size mah Lipos will I need to run all four at 1-2 to 3/4 throttle for at least 8 minutes? What discharge rate do you suggest? Do you suggest 3S or 4S? Can I run 2 motors off of one pair of 13 gauge wires? I am planning on a separate NiMH battery pack to run the flight controls. That pack will be in the nose (for balance as well) Thank you

RE: Ford Tri-Motor - scratch built
Cardona I have been out of work for some time. I expect to be set R/C money wise soon. I will finish the Ford this winter and fly it in the Spring. I am also working on an 18th scale Lockheed Constellation with Robart Retracts and 4 AXI motors. It is exact to scale as the original.

RE: BUSA Fokker Dr1 - What engine are you using?
Cryhavoc: I did it all myself. The CH Ingnition instructions are very clear. I suggest you get a Bosch spark plug lead/cover which eliminates electrical noise/interference. I have the fortune of having 20 years CAD experience and have a CNC milling machine which made things fit great. Jeff

RE: BUSA Fokker Dr1 - What engine are you using?
Cryhavoc: You probably have your engine already, but here is another application. I used a Poulan 33cc chain saw engine with a CH ignition. Had a problem in the beginning and found that the hal effect switch had one of the three wires NOT soldered from the factory. Lucky I did not crash it. Had 3 dead-sticks before I found the problem.[image][/image]

RE: Ford Tri-Motor - scratch built
I had to design and build a hand roller type corrugation press. The skin is .002" thick hard temper aluminum. Not a simulation. Did not want to build the plane without real aluminum. Just would not look right.

Ford Tri-Motor - scratch built
Took on a tough project. 1/12th scale (78" WS) Ford Tri-motor with real corrugated skins. Going to have 3 Axi 2810 motors. Gear is spring absorbing type. When finished, The pucker factor will be there on it's maiden flight for sure.

Looking for 1/12 scale dummy radial engines
Please help. Looks like Williams Brothers is closing up. I need three 1/12 scale wasp radial dummy engine kits for an airplane I'm building. Anyone have 3 for sale? If not, are there links for other companies that make dummy scale engines? Thanks.

Need help from the PROS
I have a 33CC Poulan engine with a Walbro carb and a CH ignition. Are there rules of thumb for the carb adjustments? Swings 20x6" prop. Timing is 30 degrees BTDC. Using Zenoah oil. Thanks

Tri-Motor CG
I am building a 1/12 scale Ford Tri-motor. I have most of the plane in full scale on my CAD system on my computer. I would greatly appreciate knowing where the CG is on the real aircraft. The one I'm building is the 5-AT-C. Thank you to anyone for the info. Jeff

RE: Post photo of your WW-I model:
1/4 scale Fokker DR-1 built from Balsa USA plans. Did a lot of machining of the parts. The landing gear is bungie absorbing type. Machined motor mount, interplane, landing gear and cabane struts from aluminum tubing sqeezed to an airfoil shape. The elevators, rudder and stab are machined... times so far with no mishaps. This is my very first attempt at building (other than ARF's). Jeff

Mixture rule of thumb???
Please help here. New to gas engines. I have a Poulan 33cc and I wanted to know if there is a rule of thumb for enrichening the high speed needle from max rpm. In other words, when I lean the engine to get max rpm, how many rpm's do I reduce using the high speed needle for the best longevity of my engine? I don't want to burn the engine up. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Dulling decals
Please help. I am scratch building a Balsa USA Fokker DR1. I ordered the decal set and they are too glossy for my liking. Is there a way I can dull them up before putting on the airplane? By the way, they are the water transfer type. Thanks, Jeff
