RE: 1/4 scale F9F Panther build
Just a suggestion.....get some "Split Second" filler made by US Chemical. It is much lighter than light weight bondo, sands easier and squeegees on nicely. Uses a cream hardener like bondo and cures quickly. It is little hard to find, but you can find it online.

RE: I remember when.......
Spending hours at the local five and dime store looking at all of the plastic models until I knew what they had by heart. Got my first gas powered flying model for Christmas in 1965....(I was 10) It was a AC Gilbert "Gee Bee" look alike with a .011 engine in it. I still have the motor. I grew up in a rural area with my Mother and Grandmother....No one around to help me or show me how to build models, boy was I dumb! Then I discovered I had a distant cousin who was an experienced modeler that lived close by. He spent many hours helping me and showing me "the magic". He gave me engines, airplanes, all types of accessories that I couldn't afford. I will be forever in his debt. He is in a care facility now for Alzheimers patients...hard to believe. My first real radio was a MRC F-700. It had a wafer style battery pack that had a bad tendancy for the spot welds to break. When this happened all the servos (4 wire) went one direction and stayed there with usually devastating results. I remember flying in the winter when it was so cold that you had to sit the engine near the exhaust of the car to get it warm enough to start. This was while you sat IN the car with the TX by the heater! (I'm a wimp now...cant stand the cold). I also remember holding the 1 1/2 volt dry cell over the heater trying to get one more start out of it. A .60 engine used to be the biggest thing I had ever seen. You could buy a whole case of Dukes fuel for 16.00. I had a Little Stik (actually I had about 4 of them) with a worn out McCoy Blue head .40 on it. It would NOT idle. Clarnence Lee himself could not make it idle. That engine made me learn how to land, because when you pulled the throttle back you were committed. If only we could go back and live some of those experiences again!

RE: C-46 Commando- What's available??
I think Jerry Bates has one with 96" span. I have always wanted to model one of those myself. The gentleman who taught me how to fly full scale (many years ago!) was a C-46 hump pilot. Boy...did he ever have some stories. Many people didn't like the airplane, but he did. He said if you could get any item loaded on board...it had the capability of flying it.

RE: How Many Builders Are Left?
Boy....I must have built half a dozen Lil Wizards. I flew them so much in the front yard that our neighbor lady leaned out her front door and screamed at us to quit flying that "thing"! Naturally we kept flying until it was so dark you could see the glow of exhaust in the exhaust ports of the .049. When the grass was too tall to take off, we used the picnic table sort of like a carrier. Just take a few steps back after launch. Never in history of kiddom was so much fun had by a 12 year old.
