RE: Airtronics FHSS radio in Q500?
Has anybody used the Airtronics FHSS radio in Q500 racing? I've been using one (it was cheap) in sport airplanes with good results but don't know if these have proven to work well for racing. Any comments would be appreciated.
Yes, and has worked very well. I have flown the Airtronics FHSS in wood/foam 424 planes, and also an all composite 428 Ninja with a Nelson LS and no problems. Here is a pic of my Viper 424 install:

RE: Composites
I think 424 should definately stay as a wood and foam class to keep the cost down for everyone. This is the class that we need to keep as inexpensive as possible to get new blood in to racing. I realize that there are many that don't have the time to build from a kit or scratch, and the Viper/ Predator are good canidates they go together quickly, and fly pretty good once trimmed out. What I do believe the market needs is a larger selection of 424 legal ARFs that are in the $100-$200 range.

RE: Ninja 500
I began working on my two Ninja's yesterday, and they are really nice for the money. Everything fits beautifully, and lines up really well. Here is the assembly of the planes: 1. Open Box 2. Install wheels to Landing Gear 3. Bolt landing Gear to fuselage 4. Bolt Engine to Firewall 5. Install Aileron Torque rod studs 6. Bolt in Aileron Servo 7. Hook up Aileron Pushrods 8. Install Servo Tray in fuselage 9. Bolt Servos to Servo Tray 10. Make CF V-tail Pushrods 11. Connect Pushrods to Tail 12. Bolt tail on 13. Install Throttle Pushrod 14. Install tank and fuel lines 15. Install Rx,battery, and switch 16. Set-up Radio 17. Bolt Wing on Fuel and Fly I'm currently at step 8. Seriously, If a person had all the supplies/ additional hardware on hand and about 5hrs of time...you could go from box to the air in one day.

Had a great time despite the slight amount of precipitation that we recieved through out the day. Congrats to Scott Causey for taking 1st place...must have something to do with that caller...(yours truly![:D]). For me my day was plauged with gremlins and finally got rocking and rolling by the last round which was too late, but I had a great time. Thanks to the Barnstormers for a great event!

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
Here are a few install pics of mine all with the antennas 90degrees to each other. The three models shown are a Q500 Pylon Racer, an Align T-Rex 600 Nitro, and an Align T-Rex 450. I use R/C Car antenna tubing to route the antennas and with a little heat the antenna tubing is moldable to achieve the 90degree antenna orientation. Enjoy!

RE: 424 Race in Kansas City - RC Barnstormers
I was thinking about this tonight, but this event might be a good chance to have a meeting about the future of racing within the region. I personally would like to see a series started for 2009 that each race within our region counts towards a points series in which at the end of the season the winner of the series is presented with a trophy in which their name is engraved and then the next year the trophy is transfered to the new winner and their name is engraved ect... This would promote racing within our region, and give everyone something to shoot for each season.

RE: where to find q-500 airplanes.
I would suggest sticking to the exact AMA424 rules and using only Thundertiger Pro.40 engines. When are your races? Kansas City is having a few this year, we are trying to have one in the Springfield, MO area, I know Joplin is trying to have one as well...we could just add Tulsa to the circuit!

RE: 424 Race in Kansas City, April 26th
AJ, once again thanks for calling for me.. you rock! Duane, it was a blast racing with you again! It has been a while since we raced together and it was just like old times...except I am about twice as tall now! lol Well back to building for me. I started on my Viper Saturday night after we got home from the race and all I have left to do is toss a tank in, bolt the motor on, and program the radio. Next week I should have 2 Vortex's in my possesion, and a Nelson LS for each, and then it is building time for the NATS. I'm hooked again on pylon! See everyone at Hillsdale!

FYI if anyone is looking for a Predator II the one at Sleeth Hobbies is still there. It is the blue color. I looked it over today on my lunch break (nice to have a hobby shop 10min from work) looks like a nice plane. Almost picked it up, but all dark blue is not my color.

I'm getting really excited about this event. It has been about 15 years since I have raced Q500, and about 12years since I raced at all. I dusted off the old Q500 this last week, friday installed a brand new TT40pro, Saturday ran 5 tanks through the engine on the ground with an 8x6 needled at a rich 2 stroke setting allowing the engine to cool completely between runs and leaving the piston at BDC during cooling. After the 5 tanks on the ground I set up the course at my local field using trash cans for pylons (hey it worked....only thing I could find in the club house), slapped a 9X6 on the engine and needled the engine so it was in a smooth 2-stroke but still rich, and hit the course. I flew 4 flights around the course Saturday leaning needle in a few clicks each flight and I am hooked again!![:D] This next weekend I am leaving the country for 5days, but when I get back first thing I'm going to do is order a new Nelson Q500LS and a 428 airframe so I can race both 424 and 428 at events if both classes are offered.

RE: 2007 SW Missouri "Tweak N Tune" Fun-Fly Bolivar, MO May 18,19,&20
Just a side note our field is very electric friendly with many outlets in the club house for those e-Heli pilots. Just for a little info on our events. We run a very low pressure/ relaxing event. We have no contests at our events just a great time. Now if a few people want to do their own auto contest or something...no prob, but nothing official. Just good music(we play music all day long and until the night flying is over at night), food, flying, and fun! We also have night flying every year until all hours of the night(I think I left the field finally last year on Saturday night at about 4am). Camping is allowed at the field as well, but no hookups. RV's and Trailers are welcome. So prepare to be here for an awesome event! I will keep everyone posted on what's happening, and who's coming!! If you plan on attending please E-mail me at tweekntune07@yahoo.com so I can put together a pilots list of who will be attending.
