RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Yea, these were Compacts and I needed the length as the batterys were getting shoved into the nose of a converted Focus. Fortunately for me, Sportsman is rarely held to the weight rules[:D]

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
ORIGINAL: vatechguy3 Kinda seems wrong to cut off the connectors on brand new packs. Tony
I know what you mean- just did it for 10 5s packs. But instead of cutting them off, I've been de-soldering them which leaves that big ol' 10AWG wire pre-tinned for the re-soldering process. Helps the process go a little faster. Then, what to do with all these 5 and 5.5mm bullets that are piling up?

RE: First electric?
Maidened my Osiris on Monday and had 10 flights on it by noon Tues. My first electric larger than a park flyer and wow- been so easy, could get spoiled pretty quick! Dialing in CG with battery location has been the toughest thing so far. Lack of experience on my part, but learning something with each flight. This has got to be one of the most surefire ways to having a light, straight, troublefree mount for learning Sportsman.

RE: Andrew Jesky Precision Flight DVD
Tim- I've been following this video as I've assembled and set up my Osiris. Being new to electric and a pattern wanna be, I'm copying it exactly to give me a baseline for starting out. It's more about the design philosophy, assembly, setup, with some trimming and an excellent demo flight using the split screen to see transmitter and plane at once. It's well produced and aimed at those of us starting out. I'm impressed and thankful that Andrew Jesky and Fred Midgett went to the trouble to produce it.

RE: First electric?
Just finishing up an Osiris right now. An older traditional builder here and very impressed with the quality and simplicity of assembly. Also purchased the Andrew Jesky Precision Flight video and wow- it's almost like having US Champ in my shop telling me how to set it up! I highly recommend both Osiris and video. Plan to test fly mine next week.

10C Program high Throttle Idle with Gear Up
Hello- When my gear (activated by switch) is in up position, I'd like to limit my low throttle travel to some value above idle to prevent flameout during manuvers. Need all other throttle programming (ie: throttle curve, full throttle end point) to remain the same regardless of gear position. What is the easiest way to program this on the 10C? It just ocurred to me that maybe I could assign a throttle dual rate to the gear switch and have the high throttle settings the same in both high and low rate. But how would my throttle curve be affected during the "low rate" gear up situation? Am I looking at the best way to acheive this? Thank you

RE: Hyperion 0606i charging NiMH problems
You are only charging at 0.1C when charging at 200 milliamperes. You are correct in that this is much healthier for your batteries; you will get many more charge/discharge cycles when you charge your batteries at the lower rates than the fast charging guys get. However, at 0.1C you will not get the typical voltage depression at full charge like you get when fast charging so peak detection is pretty much not usable at these low charge rates. The good thing is that you will not damage the cells by overcharging if you leave then on charge for an extended period, in fact, occasionally leaving them on charge for 15 to 16 hours at 0.1C is a good thing as it insures that the cells are well balanced.
Wow- I've been charging my nimh packs slow like this (on Hyperion 0606i) and never understood why they would not stop charging automatically within reasonable amount of time. If fact, they will take in more capacity than rated before I stop the charge manually. Had no idea the voltage depresion wasn't large enough for the charger to detect. Thanks!

RE: nicad vs nimh
When I came back to the hobby 3yrs ago, I replaced all my nicad's with Nimh. For my use, not found any Nimh drawbacks compared to my nicad experience. Big plus for me is the extra capacity to run digital servos while having plenty of flight time. I can fly all I need in one day and then using a Hyperion 606i charger on the 4 and 5 cell hobbieco packs, re-charge keeping an eye on how much I'm putting back per flight.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
ORIGINAL: AllTheGoodNamesAreTaken I've got some final numbers on the OS .65AX with 11x7 and 11x8 APC props if anyone is interested. Numbers are peak using 15% Cool Power, OS 8 plug. Stock muffler: 11x7 - 13,000 11x8 - 12,400 Macs long header cut to 4.5'' and 1060 muffled pipe (there was no gain in RPM from 4.75 to 4.5''): 11x7 - 14,800 11x8 - 14,000 Full throttle run time with 16oz tank, 11x8 prop, on pipe at ~ 13,600 RPM. - 8 min 15 seconds. (Roughly 2oz/min) I see my numbers are very close to KLXMASTER14's.
I think those are very respectable numbers and within 100-200 rpm of my old rossi .60 running same 11-8 and 11-7 props on 15% fuel at 5800' elev (that was on a cool morning here and helped compensate for the higher elev). Sounds like the .65 AX is keeper!

Frank Bowman is still making rings for about engine out there. jeff

RE: Radio South PPG Concept Urethane Clear
ORIGINAL: MarkGrabowski Good news! It appears that with this clearcoat, we can have our cake and eat it too.... flexibility to use different basecoats and still maintain compatability is extremely helpful.
Yes- great way to put it! Urethane clear coat is extremely flexible about what you can apply it over. Only caveat is weight can build up fast, but you can wet/block sand it to level it out, cut back on weight, and then polish it to look awesome like Dave's models above.

RE: OLd (NIB) Enya, o.s. and super tigre Engines, what are they worth?
ORIGINAL: big max 1935 I think the engines are gone by now ! This thread is over 6 years old . Max H. [&o]
Nah- they're still around- just in somebody else's box! This last year or so, I've been dealing with old engines from the 30's to the 80's and depening on the engine there's still quite an interest for them. I like using the crockpot and antifreeze method of removing castor/gunk, blow out the antifreeze, then warm it about 10-15 minutes in the toaster oven at 200degF or so. They're usually moving at that point and wd-40 or liquid wrench will finish the job. Followed with a bench run, you're set. If you're interested in using the warm antifreeze, read up on the threads available and be sure to have plenty of ventilation, use chemical resistant gloves, and don't put painted or anodized parts in there that you don't want to be stripped.

RE: BTE Venture 60 kits shipping soon!
ORIGINAL: Pit-Viper 1 Man I don't know how [8|] I've only flown mine about 6 times and after the 3rd I had to re-bend the gear as it was flattening out. never had a hard landing with it either. Maybe mine was softer aluminum than normal, even the guys at the field were shocked to see it bend so easily.
Hmmm- surprised to hear this. I got the Venture 60 gear from Bruce for my 4-Star and went out to re-learn how to fly and land after 13yrs away from the hobby. Nine months of flying, landed hard enough to knock the gear off the plane three times and have yet to bend the aluminum. Just bolted it back on (four 1/4-20 nylons), same shape/stance as before.

RE: Evolution 40 Problems continued
What are the running symptoms of the leak? I'm no expert but have dealt with leaks causing two different problems- one, lower compression and two, fuel draw or idling problem. And like your engine, I've heard the leak but had to couple it with the running symptom to find the root problem. Lately, I'm amazed at how badly the seals are on the needle valves of these chinese engines. Brand new out of the box and I've got to put fuel line or different orings on the needle valves to get them to run and idle right.

RE: crock pot method of cleaning
If not completely disassembled during the soak (ie: only backplate, head and carb removed) I make sure I'm able to bench run the engine same day it came out of the pot. This is after using compressed air to blow out as much antifreeze as possible and then oiling it up.
