RE: aqua 18 engine question
Just take the recoil off and run the stock back plate with the stub staff extending. I don't think there's that much internal drag with the stock back plate. JD

RE: AQUACRAFT'S NEW MISS VEGAS U-18
ORIGINAL: sleepy306 This boat is such an improvement over the first boat. So far, the only upgrades I have done are grim turn fin and CMDi balanced and sharpened octura y 535. I gps'd the boat (unfortunately no video) with 60% nitro and it ran 43.5 mph. At that speed, the boat gets a bit flighty and a handfull to pilot. I don't know if I should give the strut a degree or 2 of down angle to lower the nose or lower the strut. The strut is set as high as the stock setting allows and has 0 degree angle. I can't see how the original miss vegas can compete with this boat stock for stock in an rtr race.
I stuck 3 oz. of lead on the front of the boat on the inside sponson walls. This seems to help keep the boat running more stable at top speed. I also made a new turn fin bracket from aluminum L material and lowered the Grim Fin. In rough water conditions, this helps keep the right sponson from lifting in a high speed turn. JD
ORIGINAL: Jasontc31 Hey Guys and Gals, I just bought a new Duece and took it to the lake. I am finding that the boat will run fast on the straights the will slow down while I am still on 100% throttle. ? I have almost 3/4 gallon of 30% thru it. The boat is all stock but the grim racer turn fin and grim racer 35mm prop.I have looked over the boat but cannot find any issues. Can anyone help? Thanks Jason
Is the boat slowing down while running on the straights or slowing down in turns after running fast on the straights? If it's running fast on the straights and slowing on the straights, you should consider richening the needle. JD

RE: Ms. Vegas ???
If the engine is new, the situation you describe is fairly common. If the engine runs strong in a turn, run several tanks of fuel through it while holding it in a turn. As mentioned, prop size can also effect performance. The 3-blade prop may be placing too much load on the engine. The engine also likes nitro. It will run best on 40 - 50%. JD

The Grim Racer 36X55 is slightly more prop than the Y-535 and worth trying. JD
ORIGINAL: 1150ap Jerry i have a question i have played with a few boats over the years mainly riggers but have made a sport 40 and a scale 60. i just got a mv the other day and noticed that the shaft is down quite a bit but is set 1 1/16 below the transom. I have always run straight shaft on my stuff and i have always set the prop shaft just slightly below the rear running surface

RE: Sk-Daddle Too, gone outboard
ORIGINAL: Vertical3-D got the prop on, also added some aeromarine adjustable trim tabs...I did this so when it gets out of shape and the nose lifts, there is something to keep it from blowing over and they already have saved it a few times today...JD, the x437/3 worked beautifully, planes out instantly and really flys. the engine wasn't even close to what it will be when broken in and leaned out a little and it's already to fast for its own good. it's a real handful when it hits and chop but handles well for a flat bottom...flipped it once today, upside down in the water for several minutes and the electronics were all fine, it broke the tank loose but I had some CA with me to fix it...what a blast to drive though, I'm really happy with it. If you want a fast sport boat that will keep things exciting I'd suggest building one of these, my last mono clocked 53mph consistently and compared to that I'd guess it hit 40mph a couple times...
Great to hear you are pleased with how the boat is running. Every now and then I get lucky on a prop suggestion.[:D] JD

RE: OS .21VZM break in procedure/needle setting
ORIGINAL: G.W. Well, the 1.5 turns on the high speed needle recommended in the manual for break in is obviously WAY too lean, for any running (thanks, OS). So, what is a good break in procedure for this engine? After break-in, where are your guys' needles at? Thanks
I suggest you start at 3 1/2 - 4 turns on the HSN. Run four or five tanks through it at a rich setting, but run the engine full throttle and sometimes backed off with the rich setting. I'm at basically sea level and my HSN is about 3 turns open on 50%. JD

RE: Sk-Daddle Too, gone outboard
I would suggest a different prop than the one shown in the photos. An Octura X437/3 would be worth consideration because it would have less torque. JD
ORIGINAL: Ron Olson Jerry's not on this site but I know of 2 others that he hangs around at plus I've got his e-mail address. I won't give it out in publc though. The rails are probably made to be 3'' apart so that an Octura 3-30 motor mount will fit. The make 2 of those also, one for pull-start motors and the othet not but modding the non-pull start is no big deal

RE: AQUACRAFT'S NEW MISS VEGAS U-18
ORIGINAL: pfireproof After having water in my boat, I decided to fill the bath tub and see just where the water was coming in at. Not relizing just how low the boat sets in the water, turns out that the water was coming in from around the exhaust which I noticed is completely under water . Is it just me, or does the exhaust being under water seem a little weird? Granted, wide open, I'm sure the exhaust isn't under water but slowing down or brining the boat in to the shore, it surely has to stall the motor,,,,,,,,doesn't it? Design flaw?
The transom exhaust is not exiting into the water even at a slow speed. If you are concerned about water entering the hull around the exhaust opening, dab silicone glue around the rubber exhaust tube where it exits the transom. Unless there is a considerable amount of water in the hull when it is running some water in the hull is not a performance issue. JD
ORIGINAL: beaverboy Video later. I hit another boat today and flipped my cat. Lost the flotation in the cowl so had to quit running before I got the boat on video.
Yeah, the closing rate between a 21 powered Mean Machine and an 18 powered Vegas kinda caught the "Ol Beaverboy" by surprise. And, JD's coaching Beaverboy in the race and JD's thinking, "Surely, Beaverboy realizes he's closing in rapidly on that Vegas." In hind sight, I should have forgot about the "realizing" and shouted, "Turn your boat." The guy with the Vegas was thinking about removing the rear wing anyway, so Beaverboy just assisted in the decision making process.[:)] JD

I have a problem with the miss vegas and want to know if you help. my problem is that I get a lot of water inside the helmet and i want to know if a solution? and also to turn the wheel the engine begins to rise much reboluciones to propel and stop till I put the rudder back straight? perodonen my writing in English so bad. greetings and thanks to all
If you are running the boat slow, it will take in water. Also, the boat will take in water when it is brought back to the beach. In regards to the speeding up of the engine in a corner, it sounds like you have a new engine that needs to be broken in more. I broke one cable after running 1/2 gallon through theis engine. What type of oil or grease do you recommend? Thanks for the help.
You can just grease the shaft between runs by using the top exhaust nipple as a zirk and apply a light weight grease into that nipple. JD
ORIGINAL: phil6019 I just pulled the head off of the engine to replace a broken bolt and I noticed that the prevoius owner was not running a head shim. Is this OK ?? The engine seems to run fine. Thanks
The head shim as installed from the mfg. often set the head clearence much higher than needed. If the engine is running fine, then there's no reason to stick a shim in the head. A good setting for head clearence on the 7.5 is between .012 and .015. JD
ORIGINAL: clodbuster What does that do for the performance of the boat? Do you just have to epoxy pieces of wood to the sponsons? RE: 3.5 adjustment ?
That prop is a part of your problem. It looks like the prop that came with the engine "back in the day." Try an Octura M440, X440, or AquaCraft 40X53. And that bored out exhaust opening makes for one loud engine. JD
ORIGINAL: dyna_rider98 I hate to say it but if the super tigre engine is like the ones they put into Duratrax trucks then Aquacraft made a GIANT step backwards. RE: SV27 how much weight and where
ORIGINAL: ka350kaptain I thought it would be better to add the weight closer to the center of gravity of the boat (which I HEARD was about 9" forward of the transom). My flying experience tells me that shifting the center of gravity aft, by placing the weight farther back in the boat, under the radio box, will reduce stability and controlability. Just wondering if this logic also translates into boats.
No sure if logic always plays a factor in model boats.[:D] I know what worked for me on my SV 27 Nitro. JD
