RE: Seaplane pictures
Thanks Guys, Yep...I was too excited to get in the air and had the elevator back to get going on the rough waves....I forgot I had so much elevator and it shot off the water and in the air before I knew what happened. Lost the windshield, prop, spinner and a wing strut....other than that it will be ready very quickly to go again. I won't give up...watching the planes fly around the lake, touch and goes off the water....doesn't get any better!

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
David, Thanks again for the update and info. Sorry about your gear plates.... I guess I'll have the luxury (thanks to you) to beef them up before a maiden. Any idea how you plan to do that? I looked at them and am not sure what or where to add strength. Any advice would be really appreciated. Jerry

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Thanks for the photos and info...this really makes up my mind, I'm going to grind out the wheel wells, re-glass and make room for 4 1/2 to 5 inch wheels....and add some carbon fiber strips under the canopy rails... I just completed an aluminum engine box to replace the incredible light ply one. I'm affraid my DA85 will shake too much.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Did the TBM 4 inch wheels fit the wheel well in the fuse or did you have to do some glass work? Thanks, Jerry

Check this one out....I really need to hurry and get mine completed. This video again is with electric...can't wait to get the DA85 cranking....dang this is motivating. Not sure who that pilot is but he and the Bearcat were extremely smooth... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWoHD1TZUR0

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
WR450, great job and glad to hear the maiden went well. I see the folks asking for pics. I'll send some as soon as I get back from the business trip I am on. I spent time detailing a cockpit while waiting on the retracts. I'm close to getting in the air. You can slap this ARF together quickly as it does go together nicely or be like me and take forever doing a cockpit, rivits on the wings, detailing guns and changing the markings... So glad to hear it flies good....I'm more motivated now. I'm using a DA85 so I'll let you know how it balances out and total weight.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
I have not seen anything that said they are junk or no good. As far as I know no one has flown this Bearcat yet with a gas engine. I fly off pavement (not grass) so I thought these looked strong enough?? I'll probably try them and then know for sure. Worst case if they bend I'll replace them.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Good question, I'm not sure. I was told these were the "new better struts". They insert into a 1/2 inch hole in the retract and expand out to 5/8 inch diameter at the top. The axles are 3/16. Are these the same as the original ones you received or different?

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
I understand that ET has beefed up the struts for that reason. I should have a set arriving anyday now...I'll let you know if they are different than the early ones you may have. Otherwise I'll have to explore the ones you got from CJM....

Which retracts do you have? I understand Curtis has come up with some HD ones for the Bearcat...are they ET's?

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Keith, The foam panels are for a cockpit deck. You slide them in one at a time. I'm not that smart to have figured it out, Curtis from Easy Tiger clued me in. On the rudder taper, I agree some minor adjustment is needed but overall after spending time looking everything over I am quite pleased with the model...especially at the price. Be sure and share your pics of the beefed up retract structure. I realize it's all relative to how one lands and on what surface but with my landings I'll definetly build them stronger.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Keith, Thanks for all the input. I'll go with the DA 85...(I wondered what those foam pieces are also?) I too have fuse formers that are popped loose. With a small dent on the bottom of the fuse it looks like maybe heavy stuff was loaded on top during shipment. After initial examination I most certainly will beef up the retract bays. Can't wait to get your flight report...I believe you will be the first. Maybe I'll wait for your report before I put a lot of time into scale cockpit, rivet detail etc. Jerry

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
I would be interested in the gear from Sierra Precision if you are checking with Darrell. Maybe if he is building for several of us it will impact the price...or not? I'm a little sticky about scale so....if you decide to change the decals to the correct wings, do not try to remove the decals. They were put on first and then the wing was painted. After some re-covering I will have to sand and paint the wings then install new markings. Keith, I am getting a PPG computer match so I'll let you know the numbers. Anyone have advice on a DA85 for this plane? I have a DA50 also...wondered which would be best? I have Saito 150-180's in most war birds...this is a first for me. Jerry

Lancaster folks... I just listed a Lancaster kit in the ad section if you know of anyone interested in building a big Lancaster. It is what I would call a "good head start" to a build. Jerry

RE: Bud Nosen Giant Scale Aeronca Build
Thanks Ron...but I can't take credit for this set of gear. They were made by a local machine shop after I bent the original set up too many times. With the new engine I do plan to enter the Scale Masters qualifier this coming February in Phoenix. Up until now it had a Saito 300 that provided minimal power. I went to a 60cc (I won't mention names) and it froze up. I think this DA50 will be the answer for scale performance.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
W8ye, There has been little to no discussion on the 200ti. I have heard that it sounds great but puts out the power roughly of a 150 to 180. I have installed one in a 150 size mustang and here is my question...Why does the mannual call for such a small prop? It calls for a 14x6 or 15x6. I run a 17 on my 180 in a P-47 and have used an 18 on a 150 in a cub. The 6 inch spinner will make the 15 inch prop look pretty small and out of proportion. Just guessing...is it because each cylinder is only a 100 and the prop has to work with each cylinder and not the combined power of both? Could the mannual be in error? Thanks Club Saito Member #399 but still with a lot to learn.

See you there! Bob is riding up with us to ring out Fireball a little more. I am trying to get "BALLS" done but I'm running out of time and I already loaned my P-47 to a friend coming with us that had a mishap with his Mustang. I might be left flying a PT-19...but for me it's all about seeing the big boys fly!! Jerry
