RE: Cool Power Super T
The 10% nitro should be fine. Most likely, you'll never notice a difference even though by the time your done adding oil,you gonna have even less % nitro. You'll notice WAY more of a difference from the oil content etc. then you will the nitro content......and even then,I doubt you'll notice a difference. I'd just put some oil in it and try it. You might need a slight re-tune of the engine...but thats about it.

RE: OMP 540 quits on me
I've also got an OMP edge with a .55ax on it. Mine though runs like butter. I have to say though.......its a super great plane and motor, with MORE then enough power for any 3D......but I just dont care much for it. Its just too little and light I think. Its so twitchy and touchy and goes everywhere, and you have to leave to engine idle in a hoover or it will climb which doestn give the control surfaces enough air movement. Its an awesome plane, but I think mines gonna be for sale soon....[:(] Here she is....

Looking for a good charger...
I just posted this in another forum, then noticed this forum,so maybe you guys can help too.... I'm a gas guy getting back into electrics. Were gonna be setting up a carpet oval track racing cars from bolink legends to hopefully some type of pan cars. My question is....I want to get a pretty good charger that will do all the stuff I need it to. I may want it to do some stuff chargers dont do,so just let me know if I'm asking stupid questions. I prefer it to be ac/dc,needs to charge 4-7 cell nicds, nimhs, and some lipos. I want it to quick charge as well as trickle. I'm not too familiar with "cycling" and stuff yet,but I want it to do this and whatever else may be recommended to make my batteries as competive as they can be I guess. I would also like it to be able to test my batteries to tell me which packs are better then others etc.(this may be where the cycling come in). It would be nice too if I could charge more then 1 battery at a time. I used to race pan cars years ago,and some of the really good guys there would help me by letting use packs they new were good batteries and it really made a difference in the race. I want to be able to do what they were doing, lol. I'd like to spend $200 or less if possible. Anyone have some suggestions? Thanks...

RE: Torco is making RC fuel now!
Torco pretty much lost their buisness alot with there a** awhile back I guess. They used to be big with nitro and the nhra, but they after about loosing their buisness, other guys took over for them. At least this is the story I got while shopping around for nitromethane. Now FHS is the big carrier of nitro I guess.

Anybody racing Bolink Legends anymore?
Just wondering if any of you are racing the Bolink(now rjspeed I guess) "legends" anymore. I'm generally an airplane guy,but my club and I are trying to start up a car racing gig again. We want to try to get a nice "legends" program going and start from there. I'm just wondering if any of you can give me any info or tips on this,or if there is a better forum for this to be asked. Thanks!

RE: On Board Glo Igniters
Sullivans work well, and are very popular. I've been using them alot lately and like the fact that it has built in voltage regulator so I can use a small 4.8v rx battery to power it and its lasts along time. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=MOD060

RE: on board glow/backup rx battery?
ORIGINAL: -pkh- The idea behind having a separate on-board glow driver battery is to be sure the glow driver doesn't run down your receiver battery. If you connect the two in parallel, the glow driver can run them both down. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a separate glow driver battery.
Yeah, but you have to ask yourself...."Are your chances greater of having your glow driver kill 2 batteries(4000mah total),or having 1 reciever battery fail". I would think having a battery fail is greater then having two batteries go dead I would guess. I could be wrong though....

on board glow/backup rx battery?
Here one I havent heard anyone talk about before....I'm wondering if I can use a "y" harness on my onboard glow battery to both hook it to the onboard glow,as well as to my reciever as a backup battery. I've been running 2 rx batteries on my planes lately, and feel more confident about it. I'm just wondering if hooking my onboard glow up on one of them with this plane I plan on getting in the air. Of course I would have to put a switch in between the battery and y-harness too. I'll be using a sullivan onboard glow. I just figure if I have to use another battery for my onboard glow,I might as well use it as a backup battery too! Thoughts??

RE: morgans fuel
After 2 or 3 flights......yes,my plane is pretty messy. Several factors go into just how messy a plane will be,like type of fuel, where the exhaust comes out,tuning......stuff like that. You might notice your omega makes a very minut amount of more mess then the cool power. This could be because your omega has a little castor in it which doesnt burn up as good as the cool powers synthetic, but more than likely its just thier exhausts are sticking out further from the plane then yours,or are pointing in a different direction etc. And they may very well be running their engines alot leaner. Dont worry about it though....oil is good as long as your engine is running well. That means its getting good lubrication! Check for a PM about my fuel details.....

RE: morgans fuel
ORIGINAL: Villa Like most clubs, our club has those that insist on using Castor Oil. I mentally chuckle but never say a word against it.
Hey,I got a chuckle out of that too, because I do the same thing when I hear guys swear by synthetic, lol. I like castor because I've seen a few engines that ran cool power after sitting on the shelf awhile. With that much rust in.....I couldnt believe I was able to break them loose! I used to have an engine that I ran only synthetic in and it would squeak like crazy and all the guys would laugh at it and I thought it was the motors hub rubbing on the crankcase of something......here after switching to my own fuel with a castor mix,it hasnt squeaked a single time and I can now brag how great of an engine it is. Castor has proven itself to me a couple times over, while full synthetics have failed in a couple ways a couple times over. Its cool to see the veterans at my club commenting on how great our custom fuel is with its castor blend in. I guess sometimes its all in the luck of the draw I guess.

RE: Suer Tigre Dies in the air!!!
Goldfever, dont second guess yourself! You got the right stuff and really good fuel. All you need is to get the engine tuned and broken in some more. Play around with it,and you'll get to know it. Its takes alot of time playing around to get good at tuning an engine......especially a ST!

RE: Suer Tigre Dies in the air!!!
Hold on here guys about that "low nitro, high oil.....50/50 syth. castor"....... I wont say it wont run ok in his little .40,but that rule applies to "BIG" tigers like the ST 2300,3250,and 4500. I run a couple ST .90 and the huge G-4500. I have to make that special fuel blend for my big one,but run standard 10-15% nitro with around 18% total oil. I've ran straight sythetic and it ran ok,but I always also recommend fuel with alittle castor in it,but I wouldnt recommend a 50/50 mix. I usually mix my fuel with between 25/75 or 30/70( make my own fuel now). Its good to have just enough castor to protect your engine if you ever put it through extreme stress,as well as give your engine some rust protection(the main reason I like castor). Too much just make your plane messier then it needs to be and can bog it down and rob it of a small amount of power. Thats just my opinions. If you have to buy fuel.....Omega is decent fuel, but costs way too much. Wildcat has some nice blends for usually reasonable prices.

Yeah,I used to hear that that needed to fly fast too...kinda like a cap airplane. But,this giles flies superb slow. It coulc be because this one might be kinda light with that 1.20 2 stroke in it.

RE: Suer Tigre Dies in the air!!!
Its not the nitro content.....thats for sure. Is it dying at full throttle? It still sounds lean to me. And if its transfering pretty good,it could very well be the low end being too lean. I've noticed on my ST .90's that is you lean the low end enough to transfer good, its has a tendency to deadstick. I would try richening the low end until it you notice a more sluggish transfer. Yeah,I know this sounds dumb, but that how most super tigers are. You might notice it doesnt die. I've also noticed that on my tigers that if you richen the low end,you might have to lean the high or vice versa....meaning,if you richen the high, you might have to lean the low. This is a big difference between tuning engine like super tigers and O.S.'s. With an O.S. you can just turn a knob and it just works. This is why most guys who swear by O.S. cant fly any other engine....they dont know how to tune a motor. Anyway, maybe that will help. You'll get it.....Super tigers take some practice, but once you get it tuned....you'll never have to touch the carb again. Just dont expect it to run like an O.S.. It might, but dont expect it,lol.

RE: Suer Tigre Dies in the air!!!
Its probably just a tuning issue, especially since you didnt say anything about its transitioning(which is usually the problem with tigers). You could be having an air leak....I always put some fuel tubing about the needle valve to try and help with anything air leaking around the needle valve threads. And how cheap? lol

Gotta recommend this plane...
I just have to come in here and recommend this plane...................Its a 71" CMP giles 202 from Nitro planes. I got mine at a fly-in for $50.00 after the guy bought it and stripped it of its covering(its a STRANGE scheme). I've always hated giles planes for some reason, but for the price,I couldnt pass it up. Plus I had enough left over covering at home to cover it. Anyways.....I've been flying/testing this thing for a few weeks now with an old GMS 1.20 and this thing flies AWESOME and the hardware it came with and the construction of it is simply the best of any arf I've seen yet! This is easily the best flying plane I've flown yet. Its so forgiving it isnt even funny. It flies predictable both slow and fast. It does 3D(at least what minor stuff I'm capable of) betting than any of my other planes. For an ARF....its just an incredible plane and one I just have to get on here and recommend. And I posted this in this beginner forum because it would make an wonderful first time aerobatic plane, and the price is right too! Its just amazes me and the guys at the field everytime I fly it and I dont say this stuff lightly as I have alot of different aerobatic planes of different manufacturers, and I never liked giles before, lol. http://www.nitroplanes.com/give214071en.html

OK.....I've always wanted clarification on "blogging" too. So,thanks guys! No I know this topic is off topic, but is helping alot of us,so I appreciate it. Now that we've covered "blogging".... What is all this "Twitter" stuff about? Is it just a website for a bunch of people to post thier "blogs"? If so, are "tweets" (an short message on someones twitter page I guess) simply "blog" entries?

RE: tuning engine question
Yeah, dont worry about how it runs on the stand....it will probably run way different in the plane. Stands are great for breaking in and getting to know what your engines capable of(prop sizes, rpms, etc.) and you get a good idea of how your engine will react to the tuning once you get in installed. Nice engine too....just be careful with that thing in a stand!

RE: what about these?
I have it in a 85.5" KMP Extra 330. I think I'm swinging a 23x8 prop, but I admit its a bit overpropped, but it runs so great I'm not changing anything. The plane flies well with it.....not overpowered, but not under.....just right for nice relaxing flying. I also use onboard glow which I'm sure helps alot.

RE: what about these?
I've also got a couple .90's and ......well,I have to say I love them. Not becuase their the best engine money can buy,but because their cheap, they run, they have power and CAAAAN be reliable. Thier just a beach to tune, and they dont transfer worth crap and they like to die sometimes at idle, lol. Sounds like a bad engine, but once you understand them, and know what to expect and dont expect them to run like an o.s........you'll love them becuase of their power and personally. Mine only deadsticked on me a couple times right after take off this one day until I got them tuned. Once you do get them tuned(and they'll likely never run like an o.s.).....DONT TOUCH THEM. Seems like once you put your finger on the needle, its gets totally out of wack. And its good practice to put fuel tubing over the needle to seal any air leaks and just to keep it from vibrating loose or somthing. So,yes....buy one and just make sure you(or someone) knows alot about engine tuning. .....and most of what those other guys said couldnt be said any better! oh.....and on a side note. I have a BIIIG super tigre G-4500 that is one of the best, smoothest engines I ever seen. And everyone says they are tempermental. I REALLY love it!

RE: Cleaning engine on plane
I dont know if brake cleaner will hurt monokote(probly aint good),but I've heard the windex will because of the ammonia in it. I've heard you should stay away from cleaning products with ammonia in them. 409 brand cleaner seems pretty common. I've also heard some 409 DOES have ammonia,so check the bottle. Maybe others can help more on this topic.

RE: Second and 3rd plane.
Dude....get the Big Stick. You'll totally love it. Of all my planes,my big stick is my all time favorite for many reasons. Now I dont have a 4* yet,but I did go to buy one one day and ended up walking out with a sig hog bipe....But,I'd bet my buddies plane that if I did,I'd still prefer my stick over it,and yes I know 4* are well liked too. Big sticks just seem to have a "personality" like no other plane I've experienced. Anyway, the stick is not only an easy flying, great second plane...its also a classic must have plane and now would be the perfect time for you to have one. [:D]

RE: Second and 3rd plane.
I have a Big Stick 60 with a super tiger .90 and its the best match you can get. You just have to be careful with the super tiger tuning and flying as its not as forgiving a motor compared to something like that saito. I would still highly recommend an instructor maidening any plane for you at this point, but that your call. I still get too nervous to maiden most of my planes.

RE: Second and 3rd plane.
Dont fly that 4* yet! Its a great plane...probly better 3rd plane. And by reading your post, your alot like me in that you put alot of effort and pride into your projects. So,its just not worth risking your 120+ hour plane in the air. It'll always be there hanging on your wall though till your ready for it,and by then it wont seem so great(which is actually a good thing). With that said.....my second plane was a big stick .60 and MAAAAN am I glad I chose it because it was likely the BEST second plane I could have picked. A .40 sized stick will be good too I'm sure. I definely go with something like it before you fly your hard worked 4*. Not that your 4* is much harder to fly.....its just that you got too much time in it to smash it with your experience or even if your plane would malfunction.....it would suck(trust me). Buy something quick to build, not too expensive to build, and one that isnt the coolest thing(this is the most important). Then if worse case senerio happens.........it wont be "as" bad. And just a tip....its always a wise decision to have a good instructor maiden your plane and land it the first time or two if your not comfortable. He'll let you take controls a bit midway through the first couple flights. At least then if worse case senerios happen....you got SOME flight time with it. He might also crash it,but you have to tell yourself.."the chance of him crashing it are WAY less then me crashing it". And its always good to go with the odds in your favor. That way,if it gets smashed...at least you did all you could do and make the right decisions (theres alot of satisfaction is that alone). [:D]

RE: number of club members and flights
Man,its funny hearing some of you guys talk about how many members you have and you still get in alot of flights and have a great time. My club has maybe 20some paying members, and maybe 10 who actually fly. On a weekend, theres usually only 2 or 4 of us and we still only get about 4 flights in if were lucky, lol. But then again,we cant fly until 10 am,and usually have to quit by about 3 ish because of the sun in your eyes. And I couldnt imagine having to share the sky while flying, lol. I've done it once at one of our fly-ins and hated it (just not used to it I guess). Our normal day is VERY relaxed and we spend most of the time talking and playing with planes. You bigger club guys' day must be fast pased and crazy compared to mine, lol. Man,I dont know if I could handle that........Not to mention all the different personalities and flying charactoristics of all those different members. I'm used to my usually small group and we all get along good and know what to expect from each other. I'm gonna have to visit a big club someday just to hang out! Great to see you guys having fun and enjoying it.....[:D]
