different wires on same servo
Mike, I have bought a few 5475 servos recently and some have straight wires that are white, red, and black. Others have twisted yellow, red, and black wires. They were produced in the same month and purchsed new from the same source with Futaba connectors. Why the difference?

Great Planes Tutor
My dad has one of these in the shop being built currently. i can let you know when we fly it but i think it would be fine. Its got a really big wing, and its light so it should be going about nothing when it touches down. Also, its got a shock absorbing rubberband system that attaches the gear so it can swivel a bit to absorb impacts. We were actually thinking about shortening the wings a bit to improve wind penetration.

Retracts Or Not
i would classify some of the wood in my fuselage as aweful. It was very heavy, wavy and innacurately cut. I took the time to inform GP about the lack of quality and they didnt even give me the courtesy of a response. I am quite sure i am not the first person to have this complaint so to blow off someone they know has a legitimate problem says a lot about their customer service to me. No more GP kits in my shop any time soon.

after run oil
Dave, I hate to sound like a cheapskate although i am one nonetheless. :D I was wondering if you have any recommendations for a locally available after run oil as a viable alternative to ultra oil? I had thought of 50 weight aircraft (reciprocating) motor oil or exxon 2380 turbine oil as i believe they have little detergent properties and i can get some from work. Thanks

Epoxy cartridge with mix nozzle
And so far, all the cartridges I've used, were filled with the specified contents. I seriously doubt such a reputable company as Loctite would rip us off with the wrong contents.
What i meant by the comment about not knowing what was inside was just that all cartridge/nozzle adhesives are not the same, not that anyone is trying to pass something off as something its not. All i mean is you need to read the label not look at the type of container. There are a variety of adhesives available in that format. I also used the nozzles a couple years back and while they did work, they just scared me a little. Most any expert on epoxies will tell you to fold it over for at LEAST a minute, which is a whole heck of a lot of mixing if you time it. I doubt that the nozzle comes close to that although it may be sufficient. I can certainly agree that it would be easier and neater. The other thing that bothered me was that you always waste the stuff inside the nozzle and the nozzle every time you use it. They are certainly a good invention and have their place, just probably not my place :)

Epoxy cartridge with mix nozzle
The glue cartridge and mixing nozzle are little indication of what is inside. Those are basically just containers that an adhesive manufacturer can fill with anything they like. I have seen them with many different adhesives inside them. For instance BVM aeropoxy is most likely an industrial adhesive that BVM markets in small quantity in those nifty little cartridges. Those mixing nozzles are pretty cool but i would be a little concerned with getting a proper mix as it cant mix as well as you could with a popsicle stick. It would be good for production type environments to save time but i will take the time to mix it myself. just my 2c

Re: Radio Interference
Originally posted by Joaquin A friend who is an electronic engineer explain me this: There is no way that the antenna is loosing performance because of the body of your planes act as a shield.
I'm not sure how this can be completely true. If you shield an antenna with something conductive ie. a shielded wire, its no longer an antenna, its a shielded wire. The point of shielding is to kill any radio waves coming from the wire, hence the reason why wires are shielded on their way to an antenna. Granted a carbon fuse is not as good of shielding as what would be in a shielded wire, but carbon is a decent conductor nonetheless, thats why its used for brushes. But, i'm not an electronic engineer either so who knows?

Re: Accuracy is important
I agree with troy on everything except one point
Originally posted by tnewman What is the advantage to a full flying stab? My only thought would be less control throw needed to make the pitch changes.....as discussed above this is a double edged sword less throw need means the accuracy of you linkage and servo come more into play.
Actually Troy even that (at least on full size planes) is not the case. Reason being when you actuate a traditional elevator you change the shape of an airfoil and make it more "efficient" at producing lift in the direction you want to go. An example would be flaps on an airplane, they change the airfoil to create more lift, more than is possible by just increasing the angle of attack, which is why flaps work well for reducing stall speeds. So, full flying stabs tend to require at least as much control travel as an elevator. I agree with you whole heartedly on your reasons why not to use a full flying stab though. I am new to pattern and certainly no expert, but from what i know about full scale airplanes there have been only 2 reasons to use a full flying stab. 1. Supersonic speeds- a full flying stab is required because when the shockwave gets to the hinge point the forces required to move the control surface go up dramatically 2. Marketing- as an example Piper used a full flying stab on the cherokee series, but the reason was they wanted it to be like a "fighterjet" design. What could be better than that right? It probably did sell some airplanes but it was no lighter and no better and harder to build.

I have found that a lot of so called "fuel proof" fuels will not stand up to prolonged exposure to Nitro fuels. The up side is that they normally dont need to see prolonged exposure.

I am thinking about putting a moki 1.35 in a pattern plane and i was wondering if anyone has seen a header so that you can run a pipe down the belly from the moki (as in behind the head). Or any pipe headers for a moki for that matter and where to get them. Thanks!
