RE: New DLE 30 with Xoar 19x8
Mine does turn a tiny bit more with the laminated props. Maybe like 7100 or so. I am going off the reading on my DX8 telemetry for rpm's. It's turning the 19X8 beech 8700 in the air on a Funtana 125. I don't hold it wide open for long because the Funtana is notorious for Aileron flutter problems. I've never personally had any issues but I have Hitec HS-7985MG's on it. If it flutters with those I give up. (Dual A123 2300's so plenty of holding power)

RE: Why are helicopter glow engines so smoky????
Hey Barry, Andy might recognize this issue. OS Hyper 50 engines are notorious for eating bearings. When I bought my first one I decided to run nothing but fuel containing a blend of Castor/Synthetic. That engine is still running 7 years later and more important, it's never had a bearing replaced. Go figure. There have been all kinds of "Tricks" for keeping the bearing alive including the famed "coke can" mod. Most say it doesn't work although a few at our club swear by it. For me I'm sticking with the Castor blend at 24% thank you very much. It's way too easy to clean the brown mess on the pipe with a crock pot and antifreeze LOL.

RE: 3D flying
Stick with the foamies at first because it's not a matter of IF you are going to crash, it's a matter of WHEN you are going to crash. That's just the facts when it comes to learning to 3D. If at all possible get a simulator for your computer. It's a great learning tool and way way way cheaper than wrecking planes. The sims are NOT perfect on the physics but they are darn close. I learned to hover on a sim and within an hour was hovering my 50cc Extra a foot off the deck. Good luck mastering the art.

RE: New DLE 30 with Xoar 19x8
I quit keeping track of time on my DLE30 but it has over 10 hours and turns a XOAR 19X8 Beech the same as yours, 6900. It is not set rich and I am running Redline Two Stroke Racing at 40:1. Stock muffler. One thing I've noticed is the XOAR line of props load more than some of the others out there.

RE: Engine noise
I respect your opinion greatly, however I must make a point about modern radio/ignition component separation. I've posted pictures on this forum of my 40 size GP Super Sportster with it's converted SuperTigre 51 detailing the radio/ignition installation. The ignition used has been both the CH and an RCexl with equal results. The ignition box literally rests against the receiver, with a thin layer of foam between, which is a Spektrum AR7000. Both switches are within two inches of each other and the battery packs lay one on top of the other. The throttle control is by metal flex cable. This configuration has been flying for almost 4 years without a single glitch which I can now verify through telemetry while flying with my DX8. Never a single "hold" which is the same as saying a glitch. The frame loss has never exceeded 3 in a single flight and Spektrum says up to 20 is OK in a flight before needing to check things out. I have little choice but to use this setup as putting an ignition system in a 40 size plane is a nightmare to say the least. I had to pretty much shoehorn it all in and getting anywhere close to a 10" separation much less 12 would have been physically impossible. Heck, just getting it all in was nothing short of a miracle. It sure is a fun little plane though as it easily exceeds 90 mph and gets close to 100 on a perfect day. 16 oz of gas lasts all day so it's cheap to operate. I agree with the ignition lead needing to be shielded. Sometimes even if using a resister plug. The only time I have ever had ignition interference was using a Zenoah G26 with mag ign. After making my own plug wire shield, grounded at both ends, all interference went away. The plug used was the original type with resister but it still caused interference until the shield was added. My radio at that time was a 72mHz.

Agreed Jim, some need the 20oz tank or cut back to 8 to 9 minute flights until the break-in is complete.

16oz water bottle, 3D flying and landing with just over 1/4 tank after a solid 12 to 12.5 mins.

RE: DLE 55 performance/reliability ?
I'm with Andy on the 4 cell pack or diode but it may be too late. The damage may already be done as they don't like anything over 6 volts and a fully charged 5 cell pack is going to be in the neighborhood of 7.2 volts for a few minutes after charging. It really depends on how soon after it is pulled off the charger as to what the voltage will look like but it will be higher than 6. If it is damaged the RCexl ignitions are very inexpensive at around $55. Just make sure to get the one with a CM6 type plug wire.

RE: Hitec X4 programing NiCd in Auto
If your pack is getting extremely warm then definitely check the delta peak and lower it some. (It should be set to "default" from the factory.) My packs typically rise some 15 degs F before shutoff but only right at the very end of charge say the last 5 minutes or so. I've had absolutely NO trouble out of mine. Also, my Accucycle Elite gets the pack warmer than my X4 does although neither let it get warm enough to damage it. P.S. The process for changing from "Man" to "Auto" is tricky. It involves pressing the Start/Enter key and while holding it pressing the inc/dec keys simultaneously. It takes some playing around but it will go there with some patience. I don't use auto with NiXX packs at all on mine.

RE: HELP funtana 125 dle30
I'll try to measure the CG on mine. It's got a DLE30 too and I did not move my firewall. Yes, if it is just a touch tail heavy it takes some effort to get it on the ground. For the wing area this thing has it is very light leaving it with a tendency to want to float as the tail drops when slowing down. I have found a happy medium on the CG where with good throttle management I can do greaser landings all day long. With the SFG's on it, rolling harriers and knife edge flight is awesome. There is NO wing rock in harrier flight nor in a elevator with the SFG's. I am running 45 degs of elevator travel with my lowest rate set at 25% and 10% expo. The highest rate is 100% so I can get all 45 degs of elev travel and the expo is 70%. I am using a DX8 and have the throttle curve set to 0 18 45 75 100. I am thinking about picking the 18 up to 20 as it's just a tad soft down on the low throttle range. It's got a 19X8 XOAR on it and I have NO trouble getting a low enough idle for good slow landings. I'll post the CG as soon as I get time to check it but I just kept moving it forward tiny bits until the plane flew as I desired. Good luck getting yours ironed out.

RE: DLA -56
If you have a way of checking the bearing clearance then consider 1.5 thousandths the maximum. More than that you should consider changing it. The bearing at the piston pin end is easy to change while the one at the crank end is more difficult. In some cases the retainer at the crank pin cannot be made to stay in once removed. The crank/rod assy for these engines does not cost much and is easily changed. Good luck getting it airworthy again.

RE: Food coloring as fuel dye...
Just to make sure we keep the record straight, it is "Ethanol" that must be "Denatured" by law in order to be sold commercially for purposes other than human consumption. "Methanol" is naturally poison and will cause blindness if taken internally (It needs nothing added to keep you from drinking it other than the knowledge that it can blind you and other very serious health issues). Ethanol is the alcohol found in Liquors, Wines and Beer etc.
