Please accept my sincere apologises. It’s all my fault, I thought this was a forum for like minded enthusiasts, ones who take a great interest in other peoples models and build projects. I must have visited the wrong website/forum to which I can only once again apologise. Giorgos – two quick questions before I leave this shambles for good. Have you ever built a model from scratch or are you the type that just buys straight from the shelve then openly criticizes others who like to put the time in and build something special? And, have you got a clue... about anything? And Giorgos, you seem confused, I am not an RC company, just a guy who likes building models.

RE: FG JET TRUCK - Valentino Rossi
Not criticizing... do me a favour Of course it runs – why the hell wouldn’t it???? What do you think would happen when thrust is applied? Would the model disintegrate?, Perhaps morph into a unidentified flying object? I am astounded by all the hang ups on seeing a video of my jet truck running.. Incredible! Anyway it is tested..Have you not watched the video all the way through? – it’s starts, accelerates so of course it will run...Common sense really..Don’t take it the wrong way but I thought all of you guys on here were experienced modellers – clearly not.. Did the RC model industry exist before YouTube in seeing new models run??? Answer... Yes! This is the worst forum/model website I have ever visited – never again Cheers Supertib – I appreciate your comments! I am not sure what the model will sell for but I am hoping for a good price taking into consideration the build costs and time. If it sells for under 4k someone has a real bargain as its worth more in parts stripped down. In fact if it sells for 4k someone has a free Competition line full Alloy FG truck! I really don’t want to sell it but times are hard for me at the moment PLEASE don’t reply further – let this thread disappear down the order – it’s a waste of everyone’s time and such a good hobby shouldn’t descend into an immature argument

RE: FG JET TRUCK - Valentino Rossi
Mike Please don’t compare my truck with Michael’s – this was not a good build and used a dinosaur of a turbine. Model turbine technology has moved on significantly. Just look at how fast the modern model jet sports paccelerate prior to take off for an idea, and my truck is a similar weight to that of the large scale sport Jet plane... Any of the JetCat range are just phenomenal! As mentioned it will take a brave person to get the most out of the P160 on my truck but a very exciting prospect! As everyone is obviously aware, Jet vehicles be it models or full size can only be run in a straight line similar to that of their Dragster counterparts. It’s like saying the downside to an RC boat is that it can only be used on water. Keep the negative comments coming guys! I didn’t post this on here just as an advertising thread – it was more to share by recent build with fellow “enthusiasts” - I should have known better

RE: FG JET TRUCK - Valentino Rossi
Perhaps someone who wants to test and run the model for the first time and take the initial enjoyment!!?? This model will bring immense enjoyment to whoever buys it whether they intend to run it or not. Just the attention it brings and the amazement when the turbine starts it’s worth the expense. Perhaps just as an advertising/ marketing prop, a display item for a model shop or a promotion piece for a race team...? Everyone knows the FG saloons/trucks are good for 60-80mph depending on gear ratios so why anyone thinks this truck wouldn’t perform or run with a 34lb thrust turbine is beyond me..... This is probably the last time I post anything on this forum as there seems to be so much negativity with people only too quick to criticize. It’s a great shame as to why people can’t just appreciate someone’s model build with all the time, effort and cost involved

Hi 46u, As I mentioned in my initial thread, I will leave the risk to someone else – my enjoyment is purley in building models. As I am sure you will be aware any model fitted with a 34lb thrust jet turbine is going to be very very fast but many jet model builders (particually land based models) are just not prepared to take the risk. Even full size jet vehicle are extremly dangerous – Just ask Richard Hammond! J

RE: No Acceleration During Start up
Hi Airkiller, Many thanks for your message. The engine is brand new (brand new pump, ECU etc) and this is my first attempt to setup and start the engine. The battery I am using is a MIMH 9.6v 8 Cell 4600 mAh. Fuel can be pumped from the tank The turbine does accelerate up on kerosene up to 18,000rpm before shutting down with the “No acceleration” message. I am really lost now as to why the turbine won’t start and am more and more leaning towards the battery as you mention. What battery would you recommend if I were to change my current battery? Kind Regards J

RE: Protech P80 Turbine - Starting Problems
Hi there, I couldn’t understand why the starter motor would work ok when powered direct but would not work via the ECU for the auto start. After much head scratching I decided to run the starter motor from a independent battery supply and switch (bypassing the ECU) but upon arranging the wiring I noticed that simply the live and negative wires had been soldered from the factor the wrong way round on the PCB, clearly indicating that the Turbine had not been factory tested prior to despatch. This was a fundamental manufacturing error in which has caused me many hours in diagnostic time. I am frustrated with myself for not noticing this earlier as it is such a simple fault but with the Turbine being brand new assumed the fault lay else where Kind Regards J

Hi Dennis, Many thanks for your feedback. Both the filter and pump are brand new so assume they are ok. There are two parameters on the ECU as follows with regards to fuel flow; IDLE – ml/min = 50ml MAX – ml/min = 200ml I thought the problem may relate to a fuelling issue but am unsure as to if the default parameters are correct? Hi there, Thank you for getting back to me. Your help is very much appricated. Fortunately I have managed to resolve the starting problems. The starter motor was working ok, just not activating from the ECU for the auto start. The problem stemmed from a manufacturing wiring error to which I was very surprised to find but managed to fix. You may be able to help me with another problem. The turbine now starts fine but shuts off prematurely with an error on the GSU stating "No Acceleration During Start up" and I am unsure as to what could be causing this. Kind Regards Jerome

Protech P80 Turbine - Starting Problems
Hello there, I am having a slight problem when attempting to start my Protech P80 turbine in whcih you may be able to help me with. When running through the starting procedure, the starter motor does not automatically engage - I get successful propane ignition, then the fuel pump activates but then I receive a "flame out" message on the GSU. The starter motor never actually starts. When attempting to change any of the starting voltages (Starter voltage, propane ignit/Starter voltage maximum). A long audio warning is receive from the IO board not allowing me to change any of the voltages. When a battery is connected to the starter motor direct, if works fine. I am sure this is a simple problem in which I am missing something very simple. I am using the Projet Hornet II ECU Any help would be greatly received. Kind Regards Jerome

RE: Protech PT80 Turbine Starting/Set-up problems – Projet ECU
Hi there, Thanks again for your feedback, it is very much appreciated. I have had another go this weekend and have managed to engage the auto start from the transmitter but still no joy in starting the turbine. When I advance the throttle and trim to max, the LED illuminates orange on the IO board indicating “ready”, then when the throttle and trim are returned to min, then back to max (within the 2 second window) the LED on the board illuminates red indicating auto start. I can hear the solenoids working but the starter motor does not spool up. The GSU reads the following over a period of around 10 seconds before returning to the “ready” state PROP-IG STARTUP AUTO SLOW DOWN COOLDOWN The error I then received was “No Ignition”, then the second time I tried the error was “Flame out” The only parameters I have changed on the ECU are the battery configuration to represent 8 cells, the R/C timing and the fuel pump voltage to 2 volts. I am still concerned with regards to the default value for the maximum starter voltage as the instruction manual states 2 volts however the GSU indicates 9 volts and when I try and change it to the default setting the starter motor becomes hot and a warning buzzer sounds. As mentioned before the Turbine and ancillaries are brand new and unused. basimpsn – thanks for your help, I will check the starter motor this week but if this is ok, do you know where I can send my ECU to be checked/repaired? Any further help or advice would very much help as this problem is a little frustrating as with the complete package being new I would have expected this to be quite simple to run? Kind Regards Jerome

RE: Protech PT80 Turbine Starting/Set-up problems – Projet ECU
Hi there, Many thanks for getting back to me. I have'nt had time to look into the problems any further today bit will try tomorrwo. I have tried the throttle & trim to the low position and then simultaneously moved the throttle and trim back to the high /full position but it does'nt seem to initiate the auto start. I have checked the R/C timing and the pulse does increase with throttle advancement. I will however re-check the starter voltage. The battery I am using is 9.6v 4600Mah 8 cell and I have adjusted the ECU to show 8 cells. Any further help in the interim would be once again very appricated. Just one further question - Should the Turbine start using all of the defaut ECU settings? Kind Regards J

Protech PT80 Turbine Starting/Set-up problems – Projet ECU
Hi there, I am very new to Jet turbines so just learning the ropes. Just recently I purchased a band new Protech PT80 Turbine and am having problems activating the auto start or indeed getting the turbine to start. The Protech uses a Projet Eagle ECU and Projet GSU. Should the Turbine start with all of the default ECU parameters? (voltages/temperature settings etc?) The instructions manual is very unclear but I have adjusted the RC timing for throttle and throttle trim to maximum/minimum and also set the fuel pump voltage to 2 volts. I have noticed however that the default value for the maximum starter voltage is 2 volts however the GSU indicates 9 volts and when I try and change it to the default setting the starter motor becomes hot and a warning buzzer sounds. When I switch the ECU on, the LED on the IO board become green, then when I advance the throttle and trim to maximum the LED becomes orange (ready) but then I can’t seem to engage the auto start . Any help would be very much appreciated as I seem to be nearly there but just struggling at the last hurdle. A mentioned the Turbine and ancillaries are brand new with zero run time. Kind Regards J

RE: FG 1:5 Scale MAN RED BULL Jet Truck - PT80 Protech JET Turbine
ORIGINAL: kidd surprised to see the cable actuated brakes. does the turbine not propel it fast enough to warrant the reliability of hydraulic.
Cable brakes are absolutely spot on if they are set up correctly and matched to a dedicated high torque servo – I have often seen cables outperform hydraulics in the right hands. I personally wouldn’t use them for racing, particularly on very twisty circuits due to progressive cable stretch but for slowing this down on high speed runs there certainly won’t be a problem. With a model of this nature overall checks must be carried out following every run including brake checks. I have over 25 years large scale modelling experience and am a bit of a perfectionist so cutting corners is not an option - Believe me, you cannot turn the wheels by hand when the brakes are fully applied!
