RE: laser lizard and smith B-17
I bought a DS B-29 and Ziroli DC-3 short kit from him about 4 years ago, prices were lower back then, but still a fair price now if his website is still correct...... overall, Im satisfied with the quality of the kits. As for accuracy of each cut, can't say much, still haven't built these two yet. But, the pieces literally fall out of the sheets and he was very good to deal with at the time.

Old magazines are great for thicker resins....doesnt have to be your RC mags, use your significant other's magazines for this...great for funneling resin into tight places and easy to squeegee off excess....when the resin cures, turn the page or tear it out....talk about getting your money's worth....Ive got the same magazine since 1999, about to turn to page 33 to mix some more on it....

RE: my own rant
Its miseducation, barf "building" has become the industry standard. I still question how arf's became so popular or why they have replaced kits. I have never seen any survey or anything in regards to what my choice would be: kit or arf? Granted some of these arf's are spectacular, but I started out building kits and will continue to build kits and scratch builds. Other than that, I trust my glue joints more than I ever will on an arf. But it does get old seeing 15 page forums on a 6 hour arf assembly...

RE: Conversion from rubber bands to fixed wing
That OS 70 is going to be alot more power and stress on a trainer airframe...as for you wing, you might look at the Dubro nylon wing mounting kit and some hardwood blocks. Check out their website. I converted a rubber band held wing to nylon using two of these kits. However, my plane was built up so I did not care about damaging the covering material and I had plans to figure out where to put the mounting blocks inside the wing. I set mine up were the bolts mount flush along the airfoil line. So the thread blocks were angled inside the fuse. It's probably best if you get someone with building experience to help you. Mount the thread blocks to the plywood structure of the fuse. Depending on how you orient the thread blocks will also align the bolt path through the wing. I found it easier to mount the thread blocks first and start for the rear of the wing. Make sure the front mounts dont interfere with main spar box of your wing. Cut the head off an extra nylon bolt (leave it long) and sharpen to a point. Then thread it in so the sharp point is out barely over the saddle to puncture a hole in the wing. Align the wing, make sure you have equal distance all around. Then press down to puncture a hole in the covering. This will be your starting point. Drill the hole through that bottom only then run the bolt out just enough to puncture the top sheeting of the wing. Drill that out through the bottom. You should now have a hole to run a bolt through. Now repeat the other side but with the bolt in the new hole as this will help align the wing. Do this for the front, just not too close the the main spar. When all four holes are done. Take measurements of each hole top and bottom. Its time to cut into the wing. Find the nearest wing ribs as these will be the places to glue the hardwood blocks. The sparbox is also a good place to glue the front blocks. Since its a trainer, its flat bottom airfoil makes a good reference point align the blocks. You are going to have to shape the blocks to fit, mark the new bolthole from the top of the wing. Once you have them shaped, sit them on the wing saddle and mark the centerline of the thread block along the hardwood block, this is now your drilling angle. Drill your holes, trial fit the blocks and bolt them in without gluing. Make sure the wing mounts flush to the saddle and is still in alignment with the rest of the plane. When its all lines up, glue the blocks in and cover the exposed areas on the bottom of the wing...... Its a bunch of work, but no more rubberbands. I really do recommend you get someone to help out. Have fun!!

RE: Kit question for a beginner
I agree with staggerwingG17, the Eaglet 50 is definitely the way to go. Its easy to assembly, cover and setup. Its all diecut pieces that interlock, making the build a snap. Ive built several of the goldberg line up and enjoyed building each one. The Freedom 20 is basically a small step above the Eaglet 50. Its another easy build. The Sig Seniorita is an excellent trainer, however as staggerwingG17 mentioned it is a builders kit, you get a box of sticks and go from there. Good Luck on your choice.

RE: x acto users beware
I had the same thing happen to me years ago....I was cutting some soft balsa and my grip slipped. Brand New blade went right into my thumb, didnt feel a thing until I looked for the blade and pulled it out. Went in just above the joint, then the blood just started gushing.. Rinsed it out for awhile and noticed how deep, I just about lost it when I saw white bone...I didnt hit the bone was Surgeon-close. Cleaned it, wrapped it tight and off I went. Took a good month to heel right. I have a nice half inch scar to remind me everytime I use the knife. But razor blades still bite me every once and awhile. Hope it heals soon.

RE: Tiger 60 Build Thread
Tiger 60's are infamous for their tail group. I wish had extended the rudder on mine, knife edge is poor. I also had the same problem with bowed spars, leading and trailing edge stock. But I managed to build both halves true. The the sheeting and shear webbing helped keep it straight, before I removed it from the table. I built mine back in 1997, for night flying. Full lighting system and 7 cell battery all crammed in tight. Had to mount the batteries as far foward as possible. Receiver battery is under the fuel tank. I drilled holes in the sheeting top and bottom, as well as the ribs and replaced the webbing with polycarbonate. Its been crashed once and rebuilt, still flies great. Its wing loading makes it a pain to land sometimes, just keeps floating. Have to bring it in hot at times.
