RE: converting .40 sized rc cub to control line
Stunflyr and all the others, thanks again for all your input regarding the Cub. I have never built a high wing either, this will be a first. Guess this info will ( should) prevent me from turning the engine back into raw materials ,balsa into tooth pics, and then thrilling the field with a few softly spoken pearls of wisdom. Up here in the hinterlands of Wa. State we need a few of those SoCal sunny days. Actually, grew up in SLO and attended Poly. Great place from the 50's to the late 70's.

RE: converting .40 sized rc cub to control line
controlliner , thanks for the input. Do you remember the dimension below the wing you installed the bell crank? And did you keep the wing removable? I assume you had elevator and alieron surfaces movable. I actualy have a roberts 3 wire handle and bell crank ( had it for 15+ years never have known how to install bell crank) and thought of using it. thanks , jim c z

haha that reminds me of a story... my buddy got one and flew the heck out of it for awhile. well he ended up smashing into a tree at full throttle LOL man, from a few hundred yards away, it sounded like a 747 crashing. I dont like to laugh at people but man i was rolling.

RE: Self taught
If I can get one very cheap would any of you guys recommend a duraplane for my maiden flight with a glow plane or put my avistar in the air
a few of my friends had duraplanes and they flew awful, go with the avistar. I taught myself on a cox ez bee. 4 wing sets and 2 fuselages later I had saved (somehow) enough money to buy my first nitro arf. Never looked back from then on. crashed 3 trainers in the process. I had no internet or knew nothing about clubs and the ama. the best thing I have ever done tho was to join my club. It is just more fun to be with others that are flying. If I fly by myself I get bored. I like watching as much as flying.

RE: 1st Crash
I actually prefer to dead stick it in just to keep the forward energy in check. (I'll probably get some razzing over this)
I dead stick my cloud dancer about 50% of the time. Not that its fast on landing, I just like to keep the gliding skill. The only thing that sucks is that you have to walk out for your plane. I used to do it on my trainers quite often.
A lot of times I'll cut the throttle at a random place and glide it in.
I'm glad im not the only one. I rarely see anyone do that. I thought I was just weird.

RE: moving from paved runway to grass
I tried a paved runway before, and I prefer the good ol' grass strip much more.
You dont have to change to bigger diameter wheels.
yeah but it helps. I went from the standard arf wheels what 2.25 inch? to a 3 inch wheel. anyways, it was a small change but it was a good change.
you do need to make sure all your wheels are free spinning.
moreso than anything.

if your interested, you can check this one out. [link=http://acehobby.com/ace/showpic.asp?imagepath=images/airplane/enlarge/ACE4559.jpg]Cloud dancer 40 or 60[/link] It flies like a trainer but if you want to open it up, it will do alot of maneovers (sp) without a prob. The airframe is very light. I have a .65la on mine and it hauls it around fairly decent.

RE: Field Boxes
i just use a 9 dollar plastic toolbox from lowes. I like my electric starter only cuz my engine is inverted and i am not going to sit there for 30 mins trying to start it. I mounted my panel on the side and put the battery in the middle of the bottom layer and all my stuff goes around it. and in the top tray I have my tools. I like to have them near me cuz I like to tinker alot and I am always messing with stuff. Its all a personal prefrence.

RE: What does flutter sound like?
I've been told several times that I may be flying the plane a little too hard. On my high speed passes, I'll get a good amount of altitude, then point the nose straight down, full throttle and then level out near the ground so I'll have top speed as it passes me.
Uhhhhhh yeah, hope you have money saved for a new plane.... trainers sometimes do not like to be treated like that. Don't know about that model tho. But oh well, its your plane. I dont even do that with a plane that can take it. If you are going to beat on it like that, make sure you use new rubber bands no less than everyother flight........ trust me.

RE: What does flutter sound like?
[link=http://jimsrc.com/t2.html#flutter]definition of flutter.[/link] just wiggle the control surfaces (all of them) and make sure they are fairly solid and are hinged properly. also, make sure the hinge line gap is as small as it possibly can be. I'm sure someone will chime in on how to tape the joints I personally, never have done this nor needed to. but still is good to know I suppose.

RE: Cutting down APC props
I'm wondering if this is a bad idea?
Ummm, not to be rude to you Paul, but that has to be the dumbest thing I heard. doing so is just asking for trouble. Like Ken said, "it's just easier to buy a new prop than spending hours messing with an existing prop that may not even work correctly, or worse yet come apart in use." definately not worth the hassle.

RE: Runaway Prop!
that is why I use a tiny bit of blue loctite on my prop nut. Only had that happen once and that was when I was starting out. Didnt tighten the nut enough and I took off and flew around for about 3 mins and poof, it was gone and the motor revved so high it sounded like it was going to explode. After the whole W T F! episode, i shut it down and landed in the soybeans. only to find there was no prop or nut. So I always use it now just in case.

RE: Death of a Patty Wagstaff
I disagree, If you look at the pictures and they way the runway is cut, unless he was going to fly behind him, there should not be any cars. Now, there may be cars at the end of the runway. From the pictures you can't tell. What I am saying is that from the pictures angle and how the grass is laying, he could have landed.
This is why I dont post here anymore...... everyone is a self proclaimed know-it-all. If you post something, there is always some one telling you that you are wrong blah blah blah or they want to argue every little detail. yeah, have fun with that.[8|] P47Tbolt, Sweet plane man, sorry for the crash, good luck with the rebuild and keep flyin' JasonInAugusta, Awesome pics, thank you for them.

my .65la is inverted. It runs good but idle and starting can be a pain until you get it set. You have to lean out the idle a bit more.
