RE: Venus II, OS 120AX, Perry pump, Help! Please!
Thanks for the help! I'll give it a try. One thing though, does it make a difference if the small vent hole is pointing down? Mine was pointing up and I just corrected it. Thanks, Jim

Venus II, OS 120AX, Perry pump, Help! Please!
I have the typical Venus II setup: 120AX, 15x10, well broken in engine run likes a top (80+ flights). Decided to put in a perry pump and move the tank over the cg. VP30 pump. When I first started running the engine, it would idle for 30 seconds or so, and then just quit. Like it's running out of fuel, but immediatly, no burping. Tried more pump pressure at idle and adjusted the idle mixture on the carb. Seemed ok, but flamed out on final leg of landing (hit a tree with my wing tip, of course!). I also had to raise my idle speed up from 1800RPM to 2000 or so. Accels are nice and clean. But this cutting out at idle has me worried. Any suggestions on where I should go from here? Any setup hints? Anyone else run into something like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jim

RE: Flying quality/trim question
Thanks for the replies... I had always suspected the wind. But I did check my rudder. The Venus 40 doesn't use cables but a metal pushrod instead. And I can wag the rudder about 1/4 inch side to side with almost no effort. I'll have to scratch my head and figure out how to tighten that up. Thanks again! Jim

Flying quality/trim question
When I'm flying my Venus 40 straight and level, a lot of the time it's "crabbing" from side to side, like I was wagging the rudder. My Koas used to do the same thing. I've replaced servos and reciever in both planes, same thing. I fly off the coast north of Boston so it's always windy here, usually with some gusting. Could it just be the wind? I'm pretty new at this so I'm not a trimming expert. I'm looking for that "flying on rails" thing. Any thoughts? Jim

RE: GP Venus II
Well, I got back from sunny Florida, where it was 80° and beautiful. Now it's 45° in Boston and raining. Dang... But! I just opened the box to start working on my V2 and this airplane is BIG! I can see why the 120AX will work so well. So here is today's question: I'm just about to order the engine and should I get the stock muffler? Or is there a better aftermarket jobber? Thanks again for all the info. Jim

RE: GP Venus II
As an engineer, I love the idea of a 4 stroke. But at this stage, I need an engine that I can go out with day after day and have it running on the first flip, with no maintanence. I found that that 2 stroke O.S. engines fit that bill nicely! Great consistency in quality and run with low, low upkeep. The field I fly at is about 1/2 mile away from work, so I try to squeeze some flying in at lunch. All the other guys that do this fly electics and make fun of me. But I digress.... I've been flying .46 size airplanes up to now (mainly a Koas with a 46AX) using Futabe S3151 digital servos. Are this too marginal for the Venus II? Any recomendations? Thanks for all the advice, Jim

RE: GP Venus II
Ok, thanks! I'll go with the CA hinges and save myself the work. Thanks for the rudder tip. Maybe I'll just build that right in. On a related note: I'm new to pattern (flew controlline precision aerobatics for years) so I have some general questions. How is the longevity of Venus II or ARF's in general? Anything I should beef up? Do you bother to glass the center joint of the wing? And as I will be flying sportsman this year, is the O.S. 91FX ok? Or should I spend the extra dough and go for the 120AX... I did read your excellent review on the Tower site Jon, but I wonder if I will notice the difference at this stage in my journey. It sounds like it's easier to balance with the 91. Thanks, Jim

RE: GP Venus II
For those with the Venus II, do you use the CA hinges? Or install barrel hinges? I'm thinking of doing the extra work and putting in barrel type hinges. More for longevity then anything else. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jim
