RE: Megabar Plug is cut
Anybody have any info on either an isobar or megabar setup? I could really use manual, plans or even pictures of the internals would be very helpful. I just came into 2 isobars and 2 megabars... Although i can easily wing it, any help would be appreciated. (I also posted this in the Isobar thread) thanks

RE: Yellow Aircraft F-16C EDF Build
Hi all, I just went through this thread and great video build log! I just purchased one of these and will start collecting parts once I return from deployment. It will probably have to wait until next season to get completed but I am still doing a virtual build. I will be making this an EDF and I am looking for any and all opinions regarding which power system to use. I have checked out the Shaun Evans site and their suggested set-ups. However, I also read through a build thread from Aussie-land on the YA F-16C and someone there suggested a Shubeler DS75. This may be a heated debate, but the smaller fan (110mm) seemed to perform better than the larger 120mm fans. I believe it was attributed to lighter set-up (better wing loading) and also better airflow from a custom duct. Any recommendations from actual flight tests? Thanks in advance

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Just thought I'd throw up a photo of my Kougar restoration. I got it in trade a while back but it was in need of TLC. I have already started cutting the tail to make it a little more sporty. I am planning an O.S. .46AX since that's what was on it, and the cowl is already cut for it. The wings are going to be a hassle as they were cut up pretty good for retracts. However, they were very big and bulky for such a small model. I have since removed them and am filling in the holes with pink foam and guerrilla glue.

RE: Esky's take on the poor stock HBK2 motors
I need help with my stock setup in the HBK2 (brushed motor and Esky 0600a 20A esc. I cannot get the throttle to work. The servos work, the motor itself works with direct battery connection. I have tried moving the trims to extremes during start up. Is there some magical initialization process I do not know about? I have tried several attempts plugging in the battery with throttle at zero (trim also) and then moving it up and then back down. I've tried this with throttle at top and moving it down, as well as servo reversing. The esc hasn't made any noise, the battery is fresh, and the other servos always move. Any help will be appreciated.

RE: OS Max 50
Anyone have any ideas where I can get new bearings for the "OLD" O.S. Max .50? I picked one up and the needle bearing in the front fell apart. The back bearing is in pretty bad shape as well. I don't want to get rid of the motor but I can't seem to find anyone who makes those needle bearings anymore. If I can't find it I may trade it in on a "we want your old engine in on trade for a new one" deals. Thanks James

RE: ZERO KIT Identification and Refurbishing?
I haven't done much research on this particular model but I had a Spitfire that was I.D.'d as a Royal. It turned out to be an old Sterling kit. A lot of the same features such as hard wood mounts, and the fillet to the wing are present in both kits. If it ends up not being a Royal you may want to check Sterling out.

RE: Sterling Supermarine Spitfire plans
Anyone still have the plans for the Sterling Spitfire? I acquired a fuselage quite a while ago and just got around to researching it. Turns out it was a Sterling...I thought for sure it was Royal. I have been looking for a set of full size plans to build the wing. I also have a set of mechanical retracts that I hope to fit in there. I would appreciate any help. Please let me know. -James

RE: YD-A 56 vs. DLE 55
Pile It - I began reading this post early on because I really want to see the results. I still like the idea of just a garage test of two motors and see what happens. I appreciate you for taking time to offer this to anyone that would like to listen. It MAY even impact my decision for my next gas engine in the 50cc range. However, that decision is mine and mine alone. I realize there are tons of variables, etc. and the fact that two of the same motors can be different. I also cannot and will not hold you responsible if your tests come out great and I order a bum motor. That is life, sometimes it sucks. However, I REALLY cannot stand the people that just like to forum bash. The negative crowd is well within their right to say what they have to but after that let it go and quit harping. Pile It - please keep your thread up and let us hear the results. All I really have to offer is a quote. I'm sure it will enrage someone but oh well, life is tough, it's tougher if your stupid. "Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
Thank you both Vinnie6 and Lway45. I appreciate your help. I will hopefully be able to get this up early this season. I wasn't sure if it would be too overweight with the ZDZ 80. I think I will give the DL55 a shot and see how she pulls. I'm hoping for unlimited but not ballistic. I will post pictures of the completed plane once it's done. I also have a 30% Extra 230 that will hopefully also be up next season.

Also, I was considering powering this with a DL55 and then thought...a ZDZ 80 would be nice. Any recommendations between the two?

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
I was curious if anyone has any left-over wing jig fixtures? Even a pencil-traced copy sent via snail mail would be appreciated. I bought this kit several years ago as a completed fuselage and a broken wing (trailer door and wind) I ordered as much of the wings as Midwest would let me, but inevitably I missed a few parts. I have already made parts B-1 and a few bolt blocks, but I can't "wing" the wing jigs. I would appreciate any help.

Mike, I'm in the Air Force, so my deployment will be tolerable. Nice canopy mod. I really can't wait to get moving on this project. I'll keep everyone posted with pics as it moves along. James

RE: Seagull's "Dual Ace"
After hearing what you have to say, and doing some brief research, I think spring air retracts are the way to go. I appreciate all the help and insight. I received the DA this past weekend and can't wait to get started. It will probably be several months before I can get it flying. I have a few planes in front of this one, and with a 4 month deployment looming, I know it won't be done quickly. Besides, I want to take my time and really let this plane shine the way it should. I've already got plans for 3-blade with aluminum spinners, and fixing the window section so it's has a cleaner look. It's going to be a beauty when it's done. James

RE: Seagull's "Dual Ace"
Any suggestions on what type of retracts would best fit the DA? I only have one plane that uses them now, so I'm not well versed. Although the isntall isn't going to be right now, i still want to get some ideas as what type to use. I am on the fence as to use pneumatic or try the euro- electric ones that were mentioned in a previous post. Anybody have any input?

RE: Seagull's "Dual Ace"
I just finished reading all 842 postings and have certantly learned a lot from everyone (Thank You). I am currently in the process of procuring my DA and first twin engine. I should hopefully have it in the next week or so. Right now I will make the minor changes such as the 10oz tanks, pull pull rudder, 4-40 elevator, and probably some other fun stuff learned on here. Eventually I plan on adding retracts, and probably following the instructions from post #521. I like the split door and simple wire door actuator. Yakflyer - you might want to check out posting #521 thru #525...somewhere in there is a simple wire loop that pulls the gear door shut. Its worth checking out.

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS
Not sure if anyone is looking for another ducted fan project but I have a BAE Hawk ARF with a O.S. 46VX for sale for 550.00. Its retract ready and 99% unstarted. If your interested let me know.

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS
I appreciate the info and help. I think I'm going to try the easiest way first and if that fails I can always switch it out. Switching to an OS Carb would also allow me to run an in-flight fuel mix while hopefully fixing any tuning issues with the engine. Thanks :) -James

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS
Has anyone tried hooking a remote needle valve to a K&B 7.5 with a the front mounted carb? I now know O.S. makes a special screw to fit in their DF engines (and thanks to Rice Rocket Pilot my O.S. 48 has one). I just picked up a K&B and it has one of the mounting blades cut up to fit the Perry Carb needle screw. I don't really like cutting the plastic to make the carb work, and I'm sure a remote needle valve will fix the problem. Any suggestions?

RE: House of Balsa F-86
I really need the fuselage formers (the bulkheads throughout the plane) The guy that had this plane before me tried to modify them to the point where they are in pieces. I have two that I scratch made out of cardboard. I would like to get some actual copies that way I can have them machined. And any other stuff that people have to offer. If you could send me some copies of the elevator and rudder templates that would be great. Thanks

Does anyone have the plans/ formers or any information for the HOB F-86? I just got one and it's in REALLY rough shape. It would save me quite a bit of time and effort if anyone could send me the former templates. I'd appreciate any info/help you could give. Thanks in advance!

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS
Thanks for the help! #1. The middle hole cut in b/w the ducts would still cause the starter probe to run it at a slight angle from the canopy section correct? (btw, is that a BAE Hawk? if so I have one that is very similar) #2. If I decided to plug the original needle valve, what would I plug it with? Is it a simple screw or is it more complicated? #3. I tried to attach a picture in regards to my #3, hopefully it works. I'm currently working on several DF planes and I am expecting an F-86 (hopefully my 1st flying DF) any day. Also, I was surfing the web and saw pics of your Byron F-16. I've heard those are very stable planes. I'd like to end up with one of those down the road.

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS
I'm not sure if this thread is still active, or if it has migrated elsewhere but I have several questions about DF aircraft. I'm a new-b[:'(] to DF but not model flying/ or real flying for that matter. I'd like to start out with some questions that have been bothering me and simply reading hasn't turned up any serious answers. 1. If you have a split intake such as my BAE Hawk going into a single fan how do you run the starter probe? Can the probe be run at an angle to start the engine? 2. I have a OS .46 VXDF in an F-86, the carb has a normal needle valve but I'd like to set it up with a remote needle valve. How would I do that? 3. I've seen several DF craft that have a tail cone around the aft end of the engine. I pretty sure this is for less turbulent airflow but is it necessary/beneficial? I know I probably will have a million more questions and it seems that DF experience is rare in my neck of the woods. I'd appreciate any help I can get in getting a few of them in the air.
