RE: Weird problem with my Trex SA....
ORIGINAL: Flying Foot Doc I agree w/ OldScale Guy. When I have put the tail rotor into the grass, it makes that gear slip. I fixed mine w/ A LITTLE bit of JB Weld on the inside of the gear, pressing it on the shaft carefully to not get JB Weld into the bearing. You have to take it out of the heli to do it. Andy
He he I am glad I am not the only JB WELD fan. Many use green lock tight for tail gear. Only thing I would add is to lightly sand before glue As <span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"">OldScaleGuy said you can get the metal up grade, I have not got one yet but may get one, I like set screws Here is a link to one of the metal ones. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370040796783 I had also placed a link On the Clone War thread but if I was to keep posting same link they would think I am promoting an individual site.

RE: Trex 450 CLONE WARS
Between sales being down and competition the prices keep falling. CopterX (well known name) all CNC, PRICE drop to $59.99 you could add carbon fiber sides as listed above that still is only $85 http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=334_174&products_id=5578 And to think at one time it was a good deal to get a Trex XL (ALL PLASTIC KIT ONLY) for $145

RE: Trex 450 CLONE WARS
Something else to think about or Keep in mind: one can get away with low cost electrics in a $33 helicopter; if you get all CNC and carbon fiber you must also use high cost electrics because you have more at stake.

RE: Trex 450 CLONE WARS
Sorry if I over reacted , had a bad day, was cleaning out brush and found a bee nest. In reality we are talking apples and oranges. It is nice to have all the upgrades on a helicopter, and experience has proven it is pretty but some is over kill and not that great for improvement / performance, BUT STILL NICE TO HAVE However I have more than one Helicopter and believe it or not I have more fun with the one that did not cost the most. It is much more enjoyable, do to less pucker factor. (Pucker factor the expression on your face do to the fear of crashing) There is room in my hanger for both type’s high end and low end helicopters. Not counting radio you can have the HK-450 Flying for around $150 that is with some metal parts. Looking forward to your review, would like to hear about the quality of metal parts.
ORIGINAL: dyls1 NO... Tarot 450SE CF . Better than the rest. All carbon frames & all anodized parts. £100 AC-RC.com. Best by far as I have one... [:)] D
Price? $33 whats it cost to replace? I am NOT into bling, but practicality! Convince me I have an all CNC it is over rated over weighted and overpriced. Logically there is only a few parts that need to be METAL. 1. HEAD BLOCK 2. Motor mount 3. Tail blades grips (do to High RPMS) 4. MAIN Blade grips if you Run over reasonable head speed As for carbon fiber unless you’re flying competition that is overpriced and unnecessary. If the Tarot 450SE CF .is selling for $33 than yes you are right it is better! Besides I did not say it was the best I was just saying what I found and thought of the HK-450 DONT talk $h!t Give as a real review on the Tarot 450SE CF I may buy one! if the price is good.

RE: Trex 450 CLONE WARS
HK-450 review The HK-450 is a Trex XL/SA Clone ($35 VS $200) It comes with a plastic head, so you should just order the metal head block and fly bar seesaw at the same time you order the kit. The plastic head is often warped the seesaw is good but often broken in a crash. Other than these two parts it is good to leave rest in plastic, liter weight & cheap to replace (fuse) the frame & tail seems to be an exact copy of SA frame & tail. The plastic bottom of frame, tail fins, and canopy is of a softer plastic and should be more forgiving in a crash, the vertical tail fin may allow tail blades to hit the ground but so far so good. The ball links fit the balls well and are not too tight however the rods are a bit too long and the ball links are too shallow so many replace these with Align linkage. I am giving some a try I took a pin vise and drilled ball links deeper so far so good. The canopy needed trimming on top to keep it out of the linkage and on the bottom to get a better fit. Paint dose not stick well so I only painted the windshield after sanding well. I have had two of these kits and have seen differences in the two kits. Kit one had black rubber stops on skids, kit two had hard plastic. Blades were same color in both kits but different style. Kit one blades were not close in balance and one blade had to be modified to fit in blade grip. Kit two blades were close in weight and balance but different in shape and size. Blades are junk, I think the ones not good enough to sell out right are thrown into the kits. I have read of some who had trouble with the screws, this I did not find you just need to have the correct tool size, and put fully into screw head. I replaced the small tail gear with a Align because I have heard some have had this gear slip, but come to think of it seems I have read that the Align XL were ribbed and the newer v2 were having trouble because they were no longer ribbed. I plan on getting one of the aftermarket gears that has set screw. Over all this kit is a good bag for the buck. I can only compare it to the helicopters I have owned close to this size, Trex SA 450 and Honey Bee King V2 400. The Trex SA is little higher quality for much higher the cost. Honey Bee King V2 is smaller but uses the (same head design as the BELT CP), disappointing, I replaced its head with Align style head. The HBK was my low price, low stress heli, but even it cannot beat the price or value of the HK-450. Barebones HBK = $65+/- ~VS~ Barebones HK-450 = $33 ~VS~ Trex SA = $199.99

RE: Honey Bee King - what parts break?
Here is the best way to go! TREX 450 HEAD 1. No more fighting those nuts and can use Align feathering shafts with screws 2. Easier set up 3. Tracks better 4. No more loop links (that you must always buy in sets)(or break in flight) 5. Local parts support (Align / Trex) 6. More durable 7. Proven head that everyone copies and clones, upgrades everywhere 8. With Esky grips you have the best of both worlds, thrust bearings and able to use Esky stock or plastic blades You will never go back

RE: Honey Bee King - what parts break?
· Blades · Feathering shaft · Fly bar · Ball control arm set EK1-0284 (Hard to see it is broke and you will have trouble tracking) · Push link set EK1-0290 (have been known to break while flying) Extreme makes a pricy up grade · Main Frame set EK1-0558 (breaks at motor mount needs stiffener plate added, can be made, or after market part, frame up grade) To be honest the first thing I would replace is the whole head – the blade grips down to the swash, besting thing I ever did. I am currently selling what’s left of mine. Tracks well and no loops links http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=290324833485

RE: Beginner heli
ORIGINAL: OrganDonor I am 47 yrs old so the alfa cells have long since left me and yet I learned to fly the Trex 500 to the level of the link video in 3 months. I crashed 3-4 times and managed to rebuild myself using Finless Bobs videos. I had NO prior experience with RC Aircraft what so ever so don't tell me this guy can't learn to fly with a CP helicopter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZalbajvW2ok [;)]
First off I did not say some one cannot learn with a CP Helicopter. What I will say is not everyone has the mechanical skills, persistence, or the hand & eye coordination to start with a CP. I am a supervisor over production (assembly) Shop and I have seen people that could not put a battery in a smoke detector (before they got me involved with the hiring process) I have seen one person who could not repeat the simplest of task after being shown and had the example right in front of him. This person could no way assemble a helicopter kit, I bet his wife had to assemble the toys for the kids, I was shocked. I saw an office person who could not put a 9v battery in a smoke detector. IF you start with a CP the bigger the better, for example a Size 500 will be much more stable than a smaller CP 100-400. I was shocked at how stable my Trex 450 after flying my honeybee king v2 (400) for the last year. LARGER IS MORE stable in the CP class. (Coaxial are the exceptions and are not cp of course) I you like helicopters than you will have more than one! Why not start with an indoor coaxial? When you get bored with it put it on Ebay or better yet use it as a trainer for some young person you would love to share your hobby with. As for simulators these are handy tools for even the experienced pilot use. What’s wrong with using Coaxial or simulators as a starting point to see if Helicopters are for you?

RE: Beginner heli
I know two people at work that after talking with me decided to get the blade MCX, one just could not find the time to fly with it, the other just found it too difficult. They both found that helicopters are not for them. Letts face it if you can’t master a coaxial or stick with it enough to fly it they would never get far with a 450 and they are out very little.

RE: Beginner heli
ORIGINAL: zach I am looking for a new beginner heli, i had a century hummingbird but it was very unstable and would not fly very well. I was told to look into a t-rex 450. Would this be a good beginner helicopter as far as stability and cost of repairs after crashes? I noticed they are around $400-500 on ebay, and i am not sure if this would be worth paying that much for a helicopter i dont know how to fly (but am going to learn even if it takes a wile)
Zack Honestly If you really want a BEGINNER HELI get a coaxial Helicopter LIKE http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLH2200 You will have a blast and spend money on a simulator it will help you get ready for your next helicopter. I would not spend money on a collective pitch just yet UNLESS YOU HAVE A INSTRUCTOR to help you set it up and help you learn.

Here is a heat sink I put on mine, left over from bushed heli (homemade). I have found the ones I have made from pop cans work better than the ones you can buy because the thinner aluminum with twice the fins, transfers heat better.

RE: Official Rustler Thread
I am having a blast with my used EBay special, and I am surprised at how durable it is.[:D] I have flipped it, rolled it, and crashed it into the swing set legs, picnic table… I have a ditch in the yard that sends it airborne. Mine looks mostly stock, how are you guys breaking these? Must be the high speeds created with brushless. Now helicopters, the blades touch anything and you’re out blades, feathering shaft, main shaft… But still Helicopters are cheaper than bowling, golf, drinking, smoking… I don’t know how many times somebody tells me Helicopters are expensive, and I ask them how much they spend in a month or two on their hobby, sport, or habits and in most cases I can say, I can take one of my helicopters drive it into the ground, jump up and down on it and its still cheaper than theirs.[;)] Like any hobby cars are as pricy as you want them to be. You spend because you are enjoying it.
