RE: HELP WITH ST. CROIX/CRESSLINE LONG EZ KIT
I picked up a second hand Long EZ and it is not in the condition I would like so I'm going to clean it up a bit. 1. the structure around the canopy is not finished very well. I'd like to improve it. 2. Some of the balsa sheeting is delaminating from the foam core. I have a feeling the builder used spray adhesive because when I push the covering down to the core it makes a sticking sound and pops back up. There is fiberglass and paint over the balsa skin. Suggestions about how to fix? I was thinking about trying to inject some polyurethane adhesive (gorilla glue) between the foam and balsa and weighing down while it cures. Think it would work? 3. Overall finish is not great, and covering on the fuse is a mess. It was a sloppy build. Anyone still have the plans and would be willing to copy for me? What is the CG? It was built as an electric and I will build it back up that way. It did not come with the motor so I'll get one for it. It has the servos in the fuse and I'm not sure if I'll try to convert to wing servos as recommended above. There is a lot of lead in the nose. I'm hoping what with proper battery placement I can reduce or eliminate it. This will be a slow project for me as I have other distractions also.

RE: balsa usa 1/4 piper cub kit
I am also building a 1/4 scale Balsa USA cub this winter. I bought the kit from another modeler who lost interest after starting the fuse and one wing panel. It will be electric. I'd like to go a little non-scale and put flaps on it. I have a thing for flaps since the Multiplex Fun Cub I have has flaps and they're fun to play around with. I already have a set of H9 Cub floats coming for it, they look awesomely scale from what I've seen in the pictures. I want to cover it in fabric (a first for me- advice would be appreciated). I plan to put larger (tundra) tires on it to "Bush" it up. I will try the Dubro 6" Big Wheels. Hopefully they'll be big enough because I haven't seen any other tires that are as large and seem to look right. If anyone else has suggestions in this regard I would appreciate them. So, for the OP where's the build progress?

I've seen some overall drawings of the Robart gear. Might even be available on their web site. I can't remember where I saw them. Here's one I found with a quick search: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2409836 I've seen the gear for as little as $117. make sure you get the 690B version which is specifically for the Balsa USA version.
ORIGINAL: WacoNut When I use Koverall I use Polycrylic to fill the weave. I have never used Polyurethane. With the PolyC I thin it about 15% with water and brush 4-5 light coats with a foam brush and lightly sanding between coats after the 2nd coat. Be very careful not to sand into the fabric especially at the sheeting edges or over ribs. This will leave a bit of the weave showing which is what I think you are looking for. I also use tapes from Pink-It.net and these tapes are cut from Solartex and iron down over the rib stitching. There are many ways of applying and finishing the fabric, I would do alot of research on the different methods and see which one you like best. I am attaching a couple pics of my 33% Waco during the covering process. Polycrylic was used to fill the weave and the re-inforcement tapes are from Pink-it. I was able to cover the entire fuselage with one piece of fabric. Later!! Anthony
Anthony that looks fantastic! Would this be an appropriate or scale covering material/method for the Cub? Also, how much more does this covering method weigh over standard coverings?

RE: offical rc10 Aluminum tub chassis thread
Thanks Eman77, I do like the paint scheme. I have downloaded the PDF manual for the car I have and have compiled a list of everything I need. Unfortunately the majority of the parts are not listed on the Associated site nor at Tower Hobbies or Horizon leading me to believe they are no longer available. The specific model I have is the RC10 Championship Edition (1990). It has the 6 gear transmission. From what I understand I can use the later Stealth transmission by drilling a couple new holes. Are there any aftermarket transmissions available? I saw a car go on ebay that described the transmission as a RPM 1.96 with MIP CVDs. Every heard of this or know if it is available? The problem is that someone canabalized the parts off this car as most that are missing are not those that require replacement normally. The parts that I need for the 6 gear transmission are as follows: 6610 idler gear pivot washer and e-clip 6606 bearing adaptor and bearing 6617 diff. tube and bearing 6621 diff. pinion gear 6623 white teflon bushing 6627 thick washer for diff. 6625 diff. drive ring(big washer) 6626 diff. balls (8 ) 6653 plastic spur gear 6624 diff other hub 6628 diff. spring and nut 6604 or 6607 motor mount 6633 felt seals and plastic retainers (2sets) 6325 transmission brace 6372 spring and nylon washer (for dog bone) 6608 dust cover

RE: offical rc10 Aluminum tub chassis thread
Eman77- nice looking buggy. Do you have a larger picture of the buggy in your avitar? I like the paint scheme. I recently bought an old RC10 (circa 1990) from a guy at work. It appears to have the 6 gear transmission. But its missing some parts in the back. Specifically it is missing the aluminum motor mount part no. 6604 or 6607, any gears etc that come off the transmission and a dust cover for the gear. Is there anywhere to get these parts still? I need to take a closer look at it to see what else is missing/damaged. I am hoping to get it running cheaply. Thanks in advance! Joe

RE: Hitec
Yes you will need a speed control. Castle creations makes a 35 amp heli speed control (Pegasus 35) that most people use with a brushed motor. Jeti also makes a 30 amp brushed ESC for heli applications. The important features of a heli esc are no prop brake (or brake disabled) and no low voltage cut off (LVC). You will most likely be unable to hover if before the LVC cuts the motor. But you don't want the motor to cut out at any time as the heli will fall like a rock. Hoverup is right about a brushless motor. Almost a necessity with a heli. Absolutely maintenance free (no brushes to change or comms to clean/turn, and no sparking). They also offer longer flight time since they are more efficient. You can get all this stuff from Roffe as Hoverup recommends. Great prices and excellent service. I still have not gone LiPo as they are still too expensive for me. SubCs cells either the Sanyo 2600 or the GP 3300 offer 8 + minutes flying time (some people have said they get upto 12 min. with a brushless motor and the GP 3300s) . That is enough time for me before I take a break. I fly with 3-7 cells packs. I divide my time between helis and planes. The Deans antenna that LMH recommends is good because you don't need to worry about long receiver antenna. Don't forget the LMH oil, grease. You will also need removeable thread lock.

RE: Hitec
I have a Corona so I can try to answer your questions. The heli does not come with a gyro. You will need to get one. The Futuba GY-240 is considered the standard on the Corona. It offers heading hold function which will make hovering easier. The Corona can be flown with the inexpensive piezio (sp?) gyros also (like the GWS PG-03). But you will have to direct the tail actively. At an RC show in Toledo in April of this year LMH was showing a prototype of an updated mechnical gyro for the Corona. They said it works better then an electronic. They were thinking it might be ready for sale this fall. (There is a hobby show in Chicago this week where they may be introducing this and other upgrades). As far as radios, the Corona will work with any 4 channel radio. If you have one for your planes then just keep using it. If/when you move up to a collective pitch helicopter then you can buy a new raido. Use any 4 channel receiver as well. As with anything lighter is better. Standard servos are too large/heavy. The servo mount locations on the Corona are sized for HS-81s or similar. Remember lighter is better. I would also recommend metal gear servos. If you go with nylon gears have a few extra gear sets available for when you need them. Let us know if you have any more questions. Joe

Agree with Astro 30 go Corona
I will loudly second Astro's post. A Corona will cost about the same to set up but is bigger and much more stable. Also very durable. I tried to learn on a Hornet. Wasted a lot of money on parts and never really got much flying in. Bought a Corona and hovered out the 1st battery (about 7.5 mins)! More flying then I did with the Hornet in three months. Good Luck.

Help with Kyosho Concept - Please!
There is suppose to be a retainer clip on the bottom of that assembly that holds it together. It is the same construction as the tail pitch slider. Take a look and notice the round metal clip that has "teeth" on the inside. Those teeth are suppose to bite into the plastic. I have seen these clips glued on.

Which little heli? Hornet or picollo?
RUN, don't walk, over to the hornet group at: http://www.hornet-heli.com/cgi-bin/bbs/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro There is alot of info and people to get you into the air. The motor mounting holes need to be elongated alittle so the motor/pinion will engage enough with the main gear. Make sure your screws are tight. Hopefully you mean you are using 8 x 720 NiMH pack instead of the Nicad? Have you slow charged them at C/10 for 14 hours first? Then you need to cycle them a few times before they will get to full capacity. The stock motor and HS55 are fine for now. Unless you want to spend the money on the brushless and smaller servos.

Sailboat winch servo question
Rob, Thanks for your response. I will try to answer your questions but I have only seen his set up once when he got it and once to sail it. I believe he has something like the Kyosho Sea Dolphin with the Futaba Attack 2 channel seen here (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0161p?&I=LZ2317**) The radio is definitely a low end unit. I never thought about just upgrading to a strong servo and still using the arm. That is how like I know about RC sailing. So would you say a winch servo is out? I thought it sounded kind of neat when I found out that they were available.

Sailboat winch servo question
How beneficial is a winch servo compared to a standard servo with a long arm? Is the Hitec 3.5 turn winch servo a good one? My father has an RC sailboat and is currently using a standard servo for the sail. It seems the servo does not have enough power to pull the sail in while sailing in a strong-ish wind. One has to adjust the sail by taking some wind out of it, at least when trying to pull it in. Is this normal or does the winch servo take care of this situation? Looking for an Xmas gift idea. Thanks.

Voyager E Gear on Corona Info Needed
do a search over on rcgroups.com for lots of information. Basically you need to raise the rear up by about 1 1/8" to get the heli to sit level. I made a layup of carbon fiber cloth wrapped around an aluminum tube then saturated with epoxy to make a thin flat CF sheet. This bolts to the Corona crutch. Sorry no digital camera to take photos. Others have just used some of the extra ply that came with the Corona to extend the rear. Like I said lots of picts if you do a search on rcgroups. Oh, parts numbers are there also. i am not trying to send you away from rcuniverse. Just want to let you know there are lots of discussions there if you don't get the responses you need here.

Collective future
Paul, Many of us have purchased your product to learn to fly helicopters. It is a great first helicopter. Once nose in hover and forward flight are learned and practiced the next step in the learning process is CP and its advantages. It need not be full 3-D capable just the advantages of CP, maybe inverted hovering, etc. It would be great to be able to stay with the Corona for the next step. Also, there are alot of us out here who have quite an investment in a Corona setup. Brushless motors, battery packs, etc. It would be nice to not have to liquidate all of this stuff to take the next step. I have heard of a few people that will not buy a Corona because there is no upgrade (to CP) option. Another way to see it- the more used Coronas on the market means less new Coronas sold. How about a CP upgrade in time to introduce it at Toledo next year? I will be about ready for a CP heli by then... :) Thanks, Joe
