RE: The Official Traxxas 4wd Slash Thread...
I was at the track today and someone with a brand new Platinum Slash snapped 1 rear axle and bent the other axle on the opposite side. I heard that was a weak point on the 4x4 Slash but now I believe. They look to be that same axles that are on the 2wd Slash and I never had any problems with them. Wonder if they're made with a different type of alloy?

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
I live 20-30 minutes from Center Moriches but I do not know of any good places out there to run the cars. I would like to see how the pipe runs with the TZ in person and compare it to my rear THS pipe I have. Like I said I had the CVec pipe (which is the same concept the Buku) and didn't think it was so great. I did notice the difference in low/mid/high end power when I installed the THS pipe.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Get the THS rear pipe. I have it on my MT2 with an OS .18 an it works really good. I did notice a difference in performance when I installed it. I replaced a CVec pipe similar to the Buku and I didn't think the CVec was that great. Check ou the video link on the Buku pipe, it speaks for itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UdFs1gSix4&feature=PlayList&p=B7BA930389DCE340&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=40

RE: PPP servos -Good? Bad?
I have two of the PPP servos and I also have two MG995 servos. Can't say they are the same servo but I think the MG995 is faster. I just had one of the PPP servos die on me today. I had it installed in my Revo and it started to turn right and would not center any more. My first thought was the RX battery was dead, but that was not the case here. The servo will not work at all now after installing a fully charged battery. As for the quality, I think both brands (MG995 and PPP) are of the same quality which is fair to say the least. The PPP servos seems slower then the claimed 13sec @ 6v. I have no real way to check but to compare it side by side with another servo of the same speed, and it was not as fast. The MG995 servo is faster for sure but again I have no way to prove it. I am not sure I would buy either servo again. I just purchased them to see if the old saying is true “YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and thought I would test them out. It looked promising but I cannot back up a servo that only last approximately 10 runs on my Revo. I hope that helps anyone looking to buy these servos.

RE: Official RC10GT Thread
I am glad to see this thread still alive. Tinybaum I just traded a Factory Team RC10GT roller for a brushless Mini-t with lipos. But I have another Factory Team GT I will be selling soon on RCU. This one has some mods and is not a roller. It has servos/a Hot Bodies .18 engine/CVEC Pipe/aluminum rear bulk head/RPM front arms just to mention a few. I am going to ask $185 for it if you are interested. Check out the pics below.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
ORIGINAL: eminentguitar So do the rs4 gears fit right into the mt2 housing? Do you still use the mt2 diff cup(inner) and the mt2 bevel gears?
Hello all!! Yes the RS4 gears do fit in the MT2 without any modifications. I am currently running the RS4 18SS hardened gears in an onroad MT I built. I chose these gears because they have a different gear ratio then the MT2 and they are better for top speed. It's been a while since I posted, been too busy raising two boys and working but I recently got a chance to run my onroad MT truck and would like to share some info I discovered I just came across the answer to the striped gear problems with all the MT and RS4 cars and trucks. I don't know if this was post or discussed on here since I haven't really been on here in a long time. They are finally making Graphite gear cases which are very brittle and will not flex like the stock HPI plastic gear cases. This is the alternative to buying the aluminum gear case which are much heavier. I just purchased 2 sets off Ebay for $17.75 + shipping for both my trucks. I was planning to replace the OS .18 CV-r with an OS .18 TZ in my onroad project to get ridiculous speed but was holding back with anticipation of striped gears. Know that I ordered the graphite gear case set I am going forward with the swap. I have a 2-speed trans geared very for top speed but the CV-r has a lot of trouble pushing the truck once it hits 2nd gear. With the TZ I don't think I will have that problem. Once I have the project completed I will post videos. It is really fast already just in 1st gear but once it shifts to 2nd it dies down. Well I hope this find will help anyone having problems with stripped gears. Good luck all. P.S. RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
ORIGINAL: rs670 Vigilante, Here's the picture you requested. The pad came out in 3 or 4 pcs. The rest was gone. Once I removed the slipper pad, the spur didn't look bad. The only part that seemed melted was a little ring on the backside of the SG next to the washer & spring. I wonder if the assembly got loose. If I buy a steel SG and CB (47T & 17T), will all the other stock parts be compatible?
Go to the local hardware store and get a new nylon locknut to replace the stock black HPI locknut. The HPI locknut that holds the spur gear to the slipper pad is your problem. I had the same problem with my MT2 SS and Savage. The HPI locknuts are garbage once you loosen them and tighten them. I also had the same problem on my MT2 with the wheels coming loose for the same reason. I just went to Ace Hardware with the original locknut and they gave me the correct replacement nuts. I think you could go to Home Depot or Lowes as well. Good Luck

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
ORIGINAL: kybert does anyone know of a diff gasket that will fit the MT2? Maybe another 1/10 car?
The diff housing in an MT2 was not designed to use a gasket, therefore if you put one in it will affect the gear mesh and you will have problems with the final gear set stripping. If you use the HPI heavy diff grease you are wasting your time, the effect is so minimal you will not notice any difference (trust me I used it and it made no difference at all). I used Permatex® Ultra Black gasket maker to seal the diff housing and the diff oil made for my Kyosho 1/8th buggy. It works great with no leaks. HPI makes a spring kit that works pretty good but can cause the diff housing to wear prematurely because it puts pressure on the outer spider gears against the plastic housing. Here is a link to the Gasket maker I used. http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_makers/auto_Permatex_Ultra_Black_Maximum_Oil_Resistance_RTV_Silicone_Gasket_Maker.htm PS: It's also good for sealing engines as well.

Hello all I am hopping someone can help me out with something. I have a single wheel that came as a spare with one of my Savages and I cannot find out who makes it or where to get them from. I would like to buy a full set of these tires but cannot find them anywhere. Does anyone know who makes this tire or where I can get them from???? They look aggressive and are smaller then the stock X tires and this is what I like to use. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
ORIGINAL: topcat-lll As far as racing is concerned the starter box is the only way to go; 1) less weight of a pull starter or roto starter, and no broken strings. 2)lower center of gravity. ( you use lower engine mounts and smaller lighter flywheel) 3)mostly all high performance engines are non pull start. 4)the starter box spins the engine alot faster than a pull starter or a roto starter,so starting a poorly tuned engine or breaking in an high performance tight motor is a lot easier. 5)pull start and roto start engines have a shaft that goes into the crankcase to spin the crankshaft. the hole that the shaft goes though normally leaks alittle air.(causing eratic idle, plus the oneway bearing causes more drag on the engine. just my 2cents
I couldn't have said it better! evo165 Sorry I didn't answer you question with my last post. My pros and cons to pull start and bump start are…………. Pull Start........... Pros-Convenient\easy\no extra batteries to charge\less equipment to lug around Cons-Blisters on my fingers from tuning a hard to start engine\harder to prime engine\makes me sweet more when starting on hot days\pull string can break at any moment Bump Start........... Pros-Easy to start engine\easy to prime engine\can let the car warm up on the bump box with wheels off the ground\no runaways from forgetting to turn on RX or TX Cons-More equipment to lug around\more batteries to keep charged\some maintenance required on the box Hope that helps you. The link below is a video I made to sell an RC10GT, look how easy it started on the bump box (the engine was tuned correctly which helps). http://youtube.com/watch?v=t9o5beaDuoU

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
46U Yes I am planning to move to Greenville SC some time this year. My wife and I took the kids down there to find our new house and I think we found it. evo165 I use both pull start and bump start on all my cars and trucks. I prefer bump starting over pull starting but pull starters are very convenient when I do not have room to pack my bump box. It is a matter of preference which one you like to use. RCCanuck All my nitro cars and trucks with the exception of my Kyosho Infernos are pull start and I still rather use the bump start if I have the room to take it with me. Otherwise I use the pull starters on my cars. I did take tools with me but not all of them and I did not take the right size hex to remove the engine plus I did not have the time to fix it either. It just sucks when you time is limited and things like breaking a pull cord happens. That is the point I was making.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Dyno tests are never going to give you real world results with RC Cars as well as with real cars, but they are a tool to get the engine tuned to the max performance, which has been proven over and over these days. I found the article I mentioned earlier, I had it reversed the low-end torque and HP are effected and the top RPMs are almost identical, it is in XRC CARS Aug. 07 issue # 141 if you are interested. Below I attached pictures of the issue and the article. Yes with these tiny engines any weight added to the car will hinder it’s performance but I am willing to bet any bashers out there will sacrifice a tiny bit of performance for convenience (using a pull start or roto start over a bump starter). I personally rather use a bump box over a pull start but that is just me. I will give you a perfect example why, I just went down to South Carolina last week with the family to house hunt and visit friends, and I took as many RC cars as I could. I wanted to show my friend how the Savage ran and when I had it gassed up\\primed\batteries charged\ and ready to go the pull start broke on the first pull. I did not have the needed tools to replace the string so I was extremely disappointed too say the least.
ORIGINAL: evo165 Izit true that engine using a bump box starter will perform better than those roto-backplate and pull-start engine. I've heard this many times from those higher flyer racers. I just want to know how much of a different can those two make... Any idea?
Yes it is true but the difference is so minimal you will not notice it. I just read an article in one of my RC Car mags where they put this theory to the test on a Dyno and the difference was in the upper RPMs. I will post the name of the mag and issue # when I find it.

I heard of other people using red thread lock but I think you will have a lot of trouble getting out the bolts when you need to remove them.

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
ORIGINAL: jra918 hello everyone? is there any lipo receiver battery for the savage? never mind, i saw one already...[:D] Here's my problem asburg: my truck is an on road savage with a 18/47 gearing with a lrp spec3 2 speed set up...at 1/4 throttle the truck, without touching the steering like all normal savages it goes straight. Here's my dilemma, at full throttle without touching the steering itl veers to the left!! This is what i did. I checked the steering servo, its metal gear high tourque, left and right steering is normal,...nway my diff oil are front-60k, rear-100k. im using phaltline on road tires... could it be the dogbones?---i visually examined it, its straight... could it be the steering slop? differentials? ive already rebulided them.... there's so many factors, im having a hard time looking for the source of the problem.. hope somebody enlighten me on this. Ty guys :) ps. ive attached pictures of my truck
I have the same problem with my Savage and I right it off to torque steer. I tried everything I know to fix this problem with no success. I first thought one of the front tires was ever so slightly bigger then the other (NO), then I had to fix a shock that had a leak (this helped a little but did not completely fix the problem), then I got all the slop out of the steering (but the problem still exist), so I just think it is torque steering. As I said in my last post I installed a more powerful engine and by doing so the problem got much more evident. Hope this helps.
ORIGINAL: jra918 hi ashburg, im about to clean my differentials, and put some very thick oils like 100,000wt at the back and 60,000wt at the front for that posi traction feel, is this set up recommendable? and do you have any tips or links that you might guys have to guide me to the rebuilding process? thanks :)
I went with the heavy weight oil in the rear for the posi traction and it worked well with the stock 4.1 engine. I just recently installed a SH .28 engine and I would not recommend this setup with a powerful engine. The truck is very unstable with this setup and a more powerful engine. I am going to reverse the front and back gear setups when I get a chance, I will post my results.

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
Hello All, It's been a while since I posted anything because I have been too busy. I just bought a used Savage with a 3-speed, SH .28 engine, daul disk brakes and a metal spur gear, as a parts truck. I picked it up for $220 shipped because I am interested in the 3-speed and the SH engine. I will be selling the rest to make some money back. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the SH engine is worth keeping. I have not been able to run the truck with this engine as of yet but I am sure it will be an improvement over the stock 4.1 engine I am running currently. Is the SH engine easy to tune, does it hold a tune, does it have good power and torque?????? Any feedback would be great from people who actually ran this engine in there truck or know of someone who are running it. Thanks, Joe The pictures below are of the truck and all that was included with it, plus it had 2 JR High speed servos installed.

RE: Official RC10GT Thread
associatedgt You have an air leak with your fuel system somewhere. Replace all fuel lines and if you still have a problem then it is your tank. It could be the lid not making a good seal or a crack in the tank someplace. Check your fuel tank by installing 2 new fuel lines and block one with a screw so it will not let air escape. Then submerge the tank in water and blow into the second tube. If the tank is leaking you will know where from the bubbles in the water. Good luck

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
Has anyone seen the video I posted below from the HPI website. HPI is trying to say the stock Savage X with a 4.6 goes 59MPH (96km/h). It's more like 39MPH (64km/h) which you can see on the radar gun. There was a glitch on the radar gun which made it spike to 96km/h for a split second and they are trying to say that is it's top speed. I never seen or heard of any savage going that fast no matter what engine is installed! It's a shame they can get away with such lies. http://www.hpieurope.com/show_video.php?lang=en&videoID=109
