RE: TBM 93
Ultimate, I have a G62 on mine and it took 2Lbs to balance. This motor is perfect for this ship. Will do all the standard maneuvers and fly with plenty of power. This ship has become my go to warbird. John B.

RE: TBM 93
Ultimate, Bought mine at the hardware store. Was a couple years ago but I think the cylinder ends screw on. Plan to fly my Zero this weekend and will take a look when I have the gear down. John B.

RE: Yellow P-47 build question
So Tony, is this ship the razor or the bubble top? Also have you decided on a paint scheme? Also what engine are you using? Regards, John B.

RE: TBM 93
Ultimate flying, On mine had to replace all the o rings in the retract cylinders. Originals leaked badly. Replacements still working great. Never did get the retract cylinder not to leak so did not use it. Have my tail wheel permanently in the down position. Gear otherwise work great and are plenty sturdy. John B.

RE: Yellow P-47 build question
Tony, On my ship, along with gluing servo mounts, etc. In place, I also added 3 ounce cloth and polyester resin to make absolutely sure anything will ever come loose. So where you at with your build? Regards, John B.

RE: P47 finished and test flown! Finally!
Takeoff was a 9.5 on the brown pants factor. Had some tail wheel steering issues. But after that all went very well and predictable. Full flaps on landing worked perfect as winds were light, here in Minnesota today. Have several minor issues to address and fix before the next flight. John

RE: P47 finished and test flown! Finally!
After a ton of work finally got this ship in the air. Never thought I would ever get er finished. Flew great as expected. G62 up front. 13,000 rivets, Krylon rattle can paint and no nose weight to balance! Maiden was nervous as our field has 8' tall corn on all sides. I am a very relieved person after all that work. Plan to fly this plane all the time. John

RE: 4 Line Fuel Tank
Bob, What if you added a fitting to the bottom rear of the tank for your fill line? Then make sure the fuel dot is higher than the tank. Never done this. Only downside if that line comes off or if the fitting leaks then fuel everywhere you do not want it. John

RE: Best Warbird Batteries?
I agree. Started using Life batteries last year and so far no problems. Nice thing is they charge quickly and hold a charge. You do have to keep the cells balanced and also know what batteries are in each airplane as different MA capacity packs have different charge rates. This year I will have all my airplanes changed to Life batteries John

RE: Robart Hinge issue
By chance could you post a picture of the gap? Instead of cutting the surface off and rehinging perhaps you could just fill in th gap with balsa then cover over it. Just a thought, never tried it but if it could be done would probably be less work John

RE: P-47 project number/serial number?
Chad, Thank you for checking into this for me. As my ship is no Top Gun entry I will make it like the photo and use a 5 digit number followed by -R. Thanks, John B.

RE: P-47 project number/serial number?
http://www.hotealee-productions.com/pages/Aviation/P47-Tunderbolt.html The project number is part of the nomenclature data block. It is on the left fuse side. Identifies the particular aircraft and list it's serial number and also project number. Hopefully the link will work. About halfway down the page show an example. John

P-47 project number/serial number?
Working on my P47. It is a P 47 D-21-RA and the serial number is 42-25512. Can anyone tell me what the project number is for this plane? Did some searching and I see it is a completely different number than the serial number. Also none of my books say anything about project t numbers. Thanks! John B.

Rivets and painting stars and bars
Working to finish my Yellow P47. This bird will finally fly this spring! Original plan was to keep it very simple with panel line and basic details. Then I started to think and before I knew it decided to go further and rivet the plane. After seeing the many ways to do this I settled on the easy way and went with peel and stick rivets. Had remembered a thread and knew that someone on RCU was making them. A bit of searching put me in touch with G-Pete, a regular on RCU. Decided to use his rivets and they worked out great. Put 13,300 of them on the plane. Pictures here show the painiting of the stars and bars. While ordering rivets I told Pete that I would have to buy paint masks as by using his rivets did not want to use the peel and stick ones that came with the kit. Pete said he was just getting into making them so I ordered them from him. Pictures show the process. Having never used anything but homemade masks was not sure how this would go. But I took my time and things worked out nicely. First pic shows the masks and also figuring out getting them lined up. Then the outer mask in place. That door in the open Position does present some issues! Had to do some extra work with blue tape. Next step is to paint the white. My machine only lets me post 3 pictures so I will continue in the next post.
