Congratulations you guys!!! Sorry I missed the event, sounded like a lot of fun. I was very interested to see how this new scoring format would work out, and it sounds like it was received really well, very good to hear!! Well done Scalemasters, and all those involved. John

RE: Alclad metalizer laquers
[quote]ORIGINAL: abufletcher Can anyone who has used these (John?) tell me how long they waited to buff the paint and how delicate it is during the buffing? I found I could lightly buff the metalizer type paints almost as soon as it lost its wet-paint sheen. Almost also wondering whether the Alclad... good compromise. John

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
Don, It looks GREAT!! We are our own worst critics. I agree about how delicate buffing metalizers are, I don't use them much anymore. A really nice paint by Alclad worked out for my recent dummy engine build, and I will be using it again in the future. Does not require a sealer, but limited in color selection.

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
I'll say it is! Nice work. Two possible approaches here: Complete the engine model and then paint it, or paint individual parts and assemble later. I've done both methods, just depends on how good you are with a brush, masking techniques, etc. John

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
Don, nice work on a complex engine model!! I wish I could offer some good suggestions on how to cast your rockers, but my knowledge base is thin. It appears you might do well following the direction you're going, possibly making them from folding flat sheet material, or soft alum, or?? Thick paper might even work well, soaking the completed part with thin CA. John

The fabric can also be applied as one piece, wrapped around the TE, place the seam under the LE. This technique works well, simple to do, and scale. John

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
Don, it's sure coming together nicely! I think your TE technique will work well. I'll be watching. My next project will use similar construction techniques that have been used on your model, including a wire/ cable trailing edge. Makes for a clean airfoil, thin and delicate. Just like the full size. John
