RE: Sanded the reed block on my DLE-30
Had the same problem on mine especially a side carb (now converted to rear)but the rear carb was hard to fire even until someone suggested that I fill hole in the choke plate (About 1/8"') with liquid weld. They now start after choke on 4 flips ignition on 1 flip usually fires, choke off fires and runs after 1 or 2 flips, also I do not drain my fuel unless I am going to store for long periods,

RE: Making a Good Landing
When I returned to the hobby one of the best pilots at our club, who is a super nice person, but does not train new pilots or fly their planes, Maiden or not, showed me the technique he uses and I now use as well as other flyers I have shown how to: Select a position nearest the downwind end of runway to allow for max take off and landing roll. When on final adjust your glide path to where the plane will touch down in front of you hint: come in slightly higher than normal then relax or give down elevator to put the plane at an angle that will touch down in front of you on the runway. Your plane will still be flying and maneuverable with enough speed to make corrections if needed. Just when wheels are 12" or so off ground give very gentle up to break the descent for landing release up as soon as wheels touch to prevent "bouncing" and roll out, If I miss touching in front of me I usually will go around and do it again if our pattern is not busy. The beauty of this technique is you can adjust the height of your approach for wind conditions, lower for calm, higher for windy and maintain the same groundspeed and have control of your plane at all times (no stall landings that the wind can push up your plane etc etc Just takes practice I don't fly warbirds or jets and I know or see they have a different technique but the above works great for my sport and acro planes

RE: DLE 30 and 55 Cylinder Temp?
ORIGINAL: jedijody
ORIGINAL: John Raymond Well I used a Venom 601 high temp monitor earlier this week, not as easy to use as telemetry, which I don't have yet, but I think it was accurate readings, highest temp was 278 on DLE 30 in 3DHS Slick and 269 on DLE 55 in a EF Yak (baffled) outside temps were 92-96 F.
I would think you're good to go. Now go outside

RE: DLE 30 and 55 Cylinder Temp?
Tried that TOM, wasn't very accurate... actually used an onboard temp monitor that records the highest temp had to remove and replace cowls to install wrapped sensor wire round the cylinder above crankcase and then velcroed monitor to bottom of motor box, not very elaborate but I had what appeared to be consistent readings

DLE 30 and 55 Cylinder Temp?
What is the operating temp range for the above engines? Temps outside have been around 95-100 degrees F recently and want to make sure I am not overheating them as they are both developing much more power on the Stihl HP ultra 50:1 mix(head temps are around 265-280) What do you think?

RE: DLE 55 Idles fast after flight
After reading all the new posts I have taken the cowl off and verified all is tight on engine and servo works properly, I will now open the outlet some more to better airflow and then fly tomorrow pm and let you know what happened, I'll also take a pic or two, thanks

RE: DLE 55 Idles fast after flight
ran the engine for about 3-4 mins b4 setting idle trim, then raised one click b4 takeoff just to make sure engine wont quit during maneuvers (I do this anytime I fly).

RE: DLE 55 Idles fast after flight
Flew again this evening and richened the low end back, ran fine in the air but still required 5-6 clicks of trim to slow engine for safe landing, after reading the above posts it may be the cooling but I am sure I have at least 3-1 out-in ration on cowl

DLE 55 Idles fast after flight
EF 88 Yak with baffled cowl no problems for 30 + flights now when I land I have to Idle down several 3-4 clicks maybe more tp reduce airspeed. The engine runs fine with no burbles and great transition, has been ran several hours (3-4) on 30-1 Klotz mix. The problem did start this week after I adjusted low needle slightly leaner after running somehat rich- I thought due to much warmer weather Should I richen the low needle?

RE: 3 x DLE 30's - cranky
ORIGINAL: aussiesteve
ORIGINAL: GeraldRosebery What I wanted to ask is - Is the plug almost always the culprit to weird behavior or are there other issues people know about are seem to be common?.
YES. The stock plug is almost always the issue. Get a Genuine NGK CM6. Make sure it actually says ''NGK'' on the insulator and gap it to 0.020'' - the thickness of a #11 Exacto Hobby blade. If your local auto parts stores or Saw shops don't have any CM6's in stock, The Honda ''CM6's'' available from many places are in fact an NGK in a Honda Box. I have seen it so many times at fields where people follow the ''local guru'' and all end up with the same bad running engines. Just because a persons owns a Gasser and can fly well, doesn't mean he can tune an engine. (how do you know he flies well - does he get those deadsticks to land perfectly every time? - if that is the case - don't take his engine advice). Once the plug is changed to a decent one, also make sure you are using a fresh and fully charged ignition pack - then tune the needles right (there are no factory settings). Set the high to max RPM, set the low to good transition, recheck the high and go fly. NEVER run it overly rich.
AUSSIESTEVE is right on, per JediJody, rich = deadstick or poor performance in air I have two 30's one converted from side carb and both start and run fine, I run 32-1 Pennzoil but once again rich=problems in air

RE: WRC Wike R/C Products IBEF Ignition Battery Eliminating Filter
No problems I use both the Wike and the 42% Thor (have 2 of each) and prefer the thor only because of the bright blue LED is easily seen, I sometimes have to shade the red LED on the WIKE to see if it's lit. 2 are ran off of JR 921 RXs and two off of power expanders. http://www.42-percent-products.com/home.html

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Have flown my new Yak for the past 3-4 weekends and noticed that my wingtube is not a tight fit thru fuse and also the supplied wingbolts lack maybe 3/16" to 1/4" of being fully threaded to the shoulder, which after a couple of days flying sent me to Lowes to pickup some thick rubber washers to make sure I wasnt bottoming out when I assembled the plane I also reinforced the fuse tube with some gorilla glue. I probably will wrap with blenderm or something to tighten wing tube itself where it goes thru fuse. I like to do vertical snaps to KE spin (still learning) and 1 1/2 snaps (also learning) and want to make sure everything stays put, believe me-I dumb thumb enough without having a plane come apart in the air.

RE: Gas Kill switch
ORIGINAL: ameyam Will this switch from Tower make a good switch for gas engines- DLE20 & 30? Also, how do I connect to the DLE's ignition- the connector is different http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJ776&P=ML Ameyam
In answer to your question the DLE 20/30 require A 4.8 volt ignition battery connected to ignition with a switch in between, if you want to kill the engine from your transmitter using trim to shutoff, this meets both the switch and transmitter requirement, however it may not shut off your engine in the event of an signal loss therefore you may opt to add an optical kill switch (recommended) that will allow you to shut off the engine at any time from your transmitter or loss of signal. or I now have on three planes (2 30CC and 1 50cc) using a battery elimination circuit that is ran from receiver to ignition with a 5v regulator. I use the gear switch to activate. The 30CCs are both running off 7100 Spektrum rxs and the 50CC is running off an power expander and have not had a problem yet, however I would not recommend this for other than 2.4. this is a lot easier to install than battery, switch and optical shutoff and is considerably less $$$. I was wary of these and tested it on an older plane to make sure it was reliable before starting to change over to my other planes, they are made by Wike RC and 42% Products.

RE: ARF Covering (ultracote) woes
I use a piece of 100% cotton T shirt and my iron is usually on the highest temp because of the fabric (no sock on the iron), in fact sometimes it will change the color of the covering until it cools

ARF Covering (ultracote) woes
When I get a new ARF (Most are ulracote) I take a cotton t-shirt, covering iron and go over every seam and then tighten the entire surface, it's beautiful until I take the plane out to fly and the covering wrinkles and has to be redone. Is there a secret other than keeping the plane under shade all time while outside to keeping the covering tight?

JR 921 Power Question
Curiosity is killing me but what the heck I'll ask anyway.... the 921 has two power connections but we should only bind using the main port..ok. It seems to me that Ive heard or read that when using both ports (dual battery setup) the other port primarily powers the servos and that when looking at the circuit board it is more substantial. Any one else heard this?
